My DIL passed away in Nov. 2011 from leukemia. She had just recently graduated from Texas Tech law school and was working as a prosecutor for Tx. Dept of Public Safety in Lubbock. We always "talked trials" together and I miss her so much! She would be eating up Juan right now if she was still with us! I have to believe she is cheering him on from heaven!

I can feel how much you loved your dil, just from the little bit you wrote. What a lucky mom you were to have a dil you loved so much and how lucky she was to be loved by such a wonderful mil! I'm sure she IS watching from heaven. :hug:

You're most likely correct on that. I do have a visual problem with my right eye which makes some straight lines look squiggly. It probably made my impression of the lettering a bit more exaggerated. Learned that when I closed my right eye! LOL!

I am so interested to see this as well, Bravo.

I worry a bit that if he takes an aggressive/sarcastic/browbeating approach with her, some juror may feel sorry for her, and it may make her look weak and pitiful, which is what she is going for anyway.

I wonder if he can adjust his demeanor so he doesn't come across as bullying. He has seemed to 'pick on' the most innocuous witnesses, including his own prosecution witnesses.

I think that worked very well on a witness like Gus Searcy, b/c he was such a pompous @ss.

It will be fascinating to see and I can't wait for all her lies to be called out. I do wish he could bring out her rage, like they do on TV.

Hey, that reminds me of that movie with Edward Norton where he killed the priest and seemed to be this meek abused alter boy. [Primal Fear] I won't say anything more for those who haven't seen it, be *great* movie!

Given what Jodi has been accused of I dont think the Jurors will mind whatever way JM's goes at her. IMO. Now that was one Incredible movie. Especially the ending. Norton was amazing in that role.

I was reading in the last thread when it closed and could not reply to some of the posts. One thing we really have to remember is unless it can be verified by other witnesses whatever JA claims to have done, places she has met him (Starbucks), etc. are her versions of a story. The meeting at Starbucks could be true or she could be telling us that because she feels it's a place Mormons may frown on him meeting her. We will never know. From what we have heard from Mimi, Mormons are responsible for judging themselves. If TA felt comfortable meeting her there to give her the Book of Mormons that should not be an issue. jmo

Oh - don't trust my eyes (double vision like crazy here lately) but to me the vertical placement of the letters matches up (Travis above Alexander's) and the tell tale for me is the AL is slightly higher than the E (in Alexander's) on both photos.

I'm interested to read this "nice" letter, too. I can't imagine it would contain any proof that he abused her (because I really don't see any abuse on his part, MOO)...and she's calling it a nice letter. If it wasn't nice, she'd be complaining about it--more proof of how awful he was. It would not surprise me that this letter cannot be found i.e. does not and never did exist. She may say she lost it. :banghead:

I've been with DH for over 3 decades. Keep everything he ever wrote to me, and he's not the poetic/love letter type of guy, so I couldn't imagine losing one of those precious letters. Not one. I even kept the first card he ever sent me, way back before we were married. So in my mind, if Arias claims the letter is lost, I don't think there ever was one. And if there's no letter, this gift package from Travis probably never existed and was entirely invented and created by her AFTER the murder. Again, MOO.

On a much happier note, have fun with those kittens, CarolinaMoon! They are so playful when they're little--and they bring a lot of joy!

Tons of joy! They were bff's when I adopted them and they provide endless entertainment for my older cat who lost his bff last October.

I'm also wondering if there really is a letter, or even a package. I want to see the proof: the T-shirt, the panties, the Spiderman underpants, and the letter. Forget the gooey chocolate. None of these things have been entered into evidence... yet. Could Martinez be holding onto them for rebuttal? Or, will Nurmi introduce them? Would we see the back of the shirt?

Maybe we'll find out Monday.

Thank you so much for your kind words! She was greatly loved by everyone who knew her and she was a wonderful advocate for justice!!! I do have to tell a funny story about her! Her leukemia was caused by chemo to treat a previous cancer (synovial cell sarcoma). As a result she lost her left leg right above the knee and had a prosthetic. It NEVER slowed her down in the least! She was trying a case one day and her prosthetic leg fell off! They never let her live that down in her office and told her she would do ANYTHING to win a case! LOL!!! She was one special lady and gave me a precious grandaughter! Miss her more than I can say!

IMO~~

This is not a guilt/not trial. She has already admitted to the murder. This trial is to decide the degree of the murder charge. Jodi is trying to not get the death penalty. I'm 100% against the death penalty in any case. However, I don't think she should be given less than 30-40 years.

It's my understanding that the term 'psychopath' is meant to represent a broader, less constrictive, set of symptoms than APD alone - they simply share some correlations. To my mind any of the cluster B disorders (or comorbid) could be a psychopath. Hare states many psychopaths have antisocial personality disorder but not everyone who has APD is a psychopath. One study some may find interesting:

As I understand it, psychopathy largely describes the innerworkings of a psychopath while antisocial descriptions focus heavily on behaviour. There are many successful psychopaths who engage in antisocial activity and never get caught. I view the disorders as part of a continuum of psychopathy.

What I have read agrees with your position that antisocials are not very often psychopaths, but that psychopaths are invariably antisocial. A relatively small percentage of psychopaths are in prison compared to antisocials, but that minority commits most of the heinous crimes.

To me, the most in depth description of the innerworkings of psychopaths still remains Hervey Cleckley's seminal work, The Mask of Sanity.The case studies give you a real feeling for the inner corruption and alternate reality that psychopaths live in, and the insidious gross depravity of their way of being. And all the while, on the surface, they may be living eminently successful lives, though there are less organised ones as well.

I really want to know what is going on her mind and agree with a lot of the comments here about the mixed bag of personality disorders.

However, I think there are certain people out there such as Jodi, Casey, Scott, and others who are just plain evil and do not have any psychiatric disorders.

You can read the news every day and there are always stories that are shocking...stories of the horrible things people to their loved ones and others.

I think people are motivated by things like greed and revenge and it supercedes any common sense thinking for some reason.

I, like everybody else here want to know "why" and I am really interested in what professionals have to say...and I don't mean ones hired by the DT.

I strongly disagree, respectfully that is. The "evil" that you mention is simply a symptom of their pathology. Evil people may not have an Axis I disorder (which would make them likely to be unfit to testify) but Axis II disorders like a BPD or APD is a mental disorder but they are still fit to testify.
"Evilness" is just a symptom of a mental health disorder; just like having the sniffles is likely a symptom of a cold or allergies.

I can't wait to hear her answer to Juan. She has had a lot of help and practice in her answers to Nurmi and I'm sure advice during breaks . She won't know what he is going to ask her and I don't believe he will allow her to ramble on and on attempting to impress with her stories. My guess is at least a "trifecta" among the personality disorders. Do you think that Jodi also has a mental illness, i.e. schizophrenia?

IMO, oh she most certainly has a Cluster B Personality Disorder; namely BPD with comorbidity/overlap. This is not an Axis I spectrum disorder which could render her unfit to testify.

The only other thing that I "suspect" could also be going on is Dissociative Disorder, but that is unlikely. That's where a person takes on multiple personalities or blocks out things that happen. I doubt she has that.
