I'm on Page 2 as I type this so no doubt this will be waaaay OT when it appears on Page 40-something, but...

They need to provide lunch to inmates during trial. I read the policy of two meals per day that add up to 2600 calories, but I believe that is a brunch which is served maybe around 9-10 AM or so (brunch is breakfast/lunch combo so isn't too early in the morning, typically) and then a meal at 6 PM. Not a problem for most inmates, IMO.

The problem arises though, when one has to eat their brunch at 4 AM, and then go until 6 PM before they can eat again. That is 14 hours without food FGS! Who wouldn't have a headache doing that day in and day out???

The Sheriff needs to make exceptions for those who have to eat their brunch at 4 AM. I cannot stand this woman but good grief, we can't condone withholding food for such a long stretch of time, particularly for days upon days. I think it's inhumane treatment, and we need to rise above that.

The pictures didn't catch the whole thing, IMO.

Just part of it. He is brought down very quickly [2 minutes] but then I'm sure it went on for longer than that because somehow he gets up again and makes it to the sink.

I agree, I think she probably stabbed him a few times in the shower, incapacitating him for a minute, dragged him out and the camera went off during, she left the room to get the gun, he managed to get up and was trying to head towards the door and this is where the wounds to the back came from and then she proceeded from there

Oh, no I didn't take it that way at all, I was just wondering if it were my pics causing problems because I'd delete them if they were. My margins aren't blown so I can't tell if mine were the problem or not.

Thank you though, that makes me feel better. I do more lurking than posting so I wouldn't be surprised if I screwed something up.

*ATL is pretending she is a forensics/FBI analyst*

If that is a shoe.........doesn't fit with the sizing if in the background is a 3" floorboard. The dimensional is too wrong. Could it be body????? Like the dragging photo.

Juan wants to know

If we are looking at the same picture, I don't see any floorboard. I see a metal flashing, that is put between carpet and tile--where the carpet ends and the tile begins.

I think that is where the bathroom tile meets the carpet of the hall. You can see the door on the right.

But, yeah, it could be anything lol.

Nothing is going to get overlooked, don't worry.

This prosecutor can put his hand into a stack of papers and pull out the exact text message he wants out of 82,000.

He does it all himself, even running the projector--like he's a country lawyer in some small town, with only the town deputy at his side.

I've never seen anything like it.

I agree, I think he is amazing. Every time she tries to change the subject or bring something else up to get out of answering a question he goes "Okay, let's talk about that then!" and then BAM! Here comes a different piece of paper, journal entry, video clip, etc and calls her out on that!

Every day since cross examination has started, I've been mentally drained when it is done, but as the night goes by I start thinking more and more about it and I realize more and more about the things he's proven and things start to make more sense to me. I'll be making dinner and suddenly I'll be like "Oh my gosh I bet he said/did that on purpose!" Even down to the fact that he doesn't waste any time getting into his questions by greeting the killer when he starts talking to her. I think normally he would show people that respect, but not her because he knows she would see it as weakness.

It is a door. It's the door to the bathroom right next to the shower.

Not sure of what photo you are looking at? The one with the box? The one with the marker from the criminalists who first did the blank white thingy up/down, then later did the inch markers/same shot?

I don't know what happened here but I can barely read this page anymore. <snipped>

Can't see the print here anymore. What happened?

Not sure what you mean that you can't see print? Explain and we can assist?

Planned. Not well planned. Srsly, ninjas did it? She can't see past that moment of gory glory where she gets her ultimate way. It is like she is running a script through her head. Vengeance, vengeance, I'll show Travis who he's dealing with...... but no understanding of how to not be caught afterward.

I don't know. People who can do such things, I think they give up their claim on humanity. I can say she probably has not had a happy life, but she really is a freak of nature. Looks like a human, but she's not. I feel bad for the person she could have been, if she was a human. Jodi herself? No, vicious little monster.

Makes the vicious monster part of me think, "Oh, you don't feel any pain from your conscience? Well then, lets see what kind of pain you DO feel."

Night Owl.......have you been :welcome:!!!!!

Had to take a little break yesterday after watching about an hour of Jodi's cross examination. She was bringing out thoughts I didn't like myself thinking. But I did watch some of HLN and there was one man, I believe he was an attorney, who said Jodi violated the rules of "Self-defense" in Arizona by her over-kill of Travis. I don't remember the details but I think my blood pressure dropped about 40 points because he was very convincing that if the jury follows their jury instructions they will HAVE TO FIND HER GUILTY.
As an added thought, I hope the jury notices that in the 48 Hour interviews and in Flores' interrogation of Jodi (before she changed to the self-defense version) Jodi has nothing but praise for Travis. He was a wonderful, funny, bright, fantastic human being. He taught her so much and did so much for her that she couldn't help but love him. It was only AFTER she changed to self-defense that he beat her, forced her to do horrible things, practiced pedophilia, etc. I feel this is an important point to stress to the jury. She is only trashing him to save her own skin, which we already know, but it is such a simple, straight forward thought to convey to the jury that it may get overlooked. Self-defense is the ONLY defense that could possibly acquit her.

Proving "overkill" -- i.e., possibly negating self defense, does not equate to proving premeditated murder beyond a reasonable doubt. And that's what the State has to prove, regardless of whether self-defense is proven. 1st degree murder is the only charge on the table. Maybe one of the verified lawyers can inform us regarding whether lesser included offenses are still on the table as well under Arizona law, even though they're not charged?

Teeny. Tiny print all of a sudden. Even when I pinch open the screen doesn't help.

I can't read anymore. I must have done something. I was typing song lyrics when it happened. ( in the quote box)

Thanks!!

I have to say, a camera taking pictures on it's own of a killer is like something out of a stephen king novel.

How did that happen? [rhetorical question]

It has to be an act of God, IMO.

yeah, I have to wonder if there was a timer set on accident or I know my digital cam has a "sport" mode where when the shutter is pushed, it rapid fires off about 10 shots in a row to catch the action happening. *shrug* :waitasec:......but yes, hoping for a bit of divine intervention as well

OK, I am doing a 2:15 am review.........so bear with me. When I saw this for sometime before....which didn't have this entire photo on WS previously......I thought this was next to a ........what do you call it........ the board on the wall at the bottom of the floor and up......

Now, looking at it. It looks like the divider that lines either my sliding door to my closet, or the divider to my showers metal thingy.......in other words, I don't think it is the board on the wall to floor vertical....it is ON THE FLOOR horizontal. Does that make sense? therefore, all my trying to judge sizes were off it it was just a 1-2" piece flat to floor, vs. a 4" up down things that is on everyone's walls to the floor.

Sorry......but commenting on my own. If this is indeed a shoe......just doesn't appear right to me. The background has been discussed earlier and tonight.......and not a horizontal metal divider from carpet to carpet, but is the floor board which is usually at least 2 1/2" in height....and in forensic photos just shown above.......does have those 4 ridges in them. Therefore.. if it was a foot, and is in relation, the floor board looks too tiny imho for a shoe. If the foot was just in front of floorboard......the floor board in that space would be much bigger in relation. Therefore........a body ?

Is there a dedicated thread nurse for these discussions as perhaps should go there!

Also Nurse, did you get my messages re setting up a DEDICATED thread for the family so they didn't have to read upsetting stuff we may be posting. We had one on a previous case......that was monitored closely to ensure all positive stuff. TIA

Can Judge Sherry Stephens intercede and direct Jodi Arias to answer The State's (Juan Martinez) questions?

I'm not certain how to give an example - however, let's say Arias says, "the sky is the color of water in a sea." Martinez responds, "with regards to the sky, you indicated that it is blue." Arias will respond, "no, I didn't say that." Martinez responds, "don't you remember saying that the sky is the color of water in a sea?" Arias, "um, yes, but I didn't say blue. I would never say blue because that would not be accurate." Martinez, "well, the sky is blue correct?" Arias, "No." Martinez, "you yourself, did you not say that the sky is the color of water in a sea, and, that color would be blue." Arias, "You are scarring me. Your tone is hostile. This makes me scarred just like when Travis would abuse me." Martinez, "did you or or did you not indicate that the sky is blue?" Arias, "I don't understand your question. Sea color depends on a variety of things. But, yes, I guess a person could say that the sea is blue." Martinez, "What color was the sky?" Arias, "Blue. But I believe that the water in the sea can be a variety of colors. I don't know what you mean by sea color."

Goodness!

Arias did write how wonderful Travis was in his memorial book - she wrote this knowing that she murdered him. Let's say that Travis was going to kill her, and, she had to defend herself. Why would she write anything in his memorial book? Let's say that Arias did murder in self defense - why would she shoot him, stab him over two dozen times, and slit his throat?

If Arias believed that Travis was a great guy - even though he was attracted to young boys, and, abusive - and according to Arias she knew that Travis did not like those aspects have himself - and she believed that he had the potential to overcome all of those demons. So - if Arias believed Travis could get better - why didn't she 'fight' to get away - as opposed to murdering Travis over and over again. Travis was in the shower - we know this - we saw the pictures. Arias, according to her, was able to make it to his closet and get his gun without Travis blocking her in anyway - she has the gun that she got without a fight - why not point it at him and run away? Arias, according to her own words, believed in Travis and knew that he was a great person - so why not run? Also, does it make sense that she was able to get the gun without a fight from Travis? If Travis is coming after her - saw her trying to get his gun - wouldn't Travis tackle her to the ground before she was able to get his gun?

To me it seems as though Travis was so kind hearted that he could not bring himself to hurt Arias as she was murdering him.

Arias lied about murdering Travis because she did not want to get caught. After she murdered him, she went about behaving grief stricken - proclaiming how wonderful Travis was.

I do not see how The State of Arizona - acting on the behalf of US citizens - protecting citizens from dangerous people such as herself - can achieve their duties with Arias answering questions in a riddle like manner.

Arias was able to answer questions fine with her attorney - she has been able to answer questions fine when being interviewed for television programs. It seems as though the only time Arias cannot answer questions is when Arias isn't allowed to speak her lies.

Plus, I do no think that it is right that Arias can behave, and, proclaim that Martinez is making her uncomfortable (implying that Martinez is abusive towards her, causing her to be frightened - similar to the way Travis did). Can the Judge address this - and tell Arias that she cannot imply that the State Prosecutor is being abusive towards her?

Finally, can the judge instruct Arias' defense attorney to make sure that the person he is defending has food. Even if he has to keep some breakfast snack bars in his briefcase?

I do not live in Arizona - however, if I did, I would be upset seeing how this judge runs her courtroom.

Sorry this is such a long rant - it just seems that the fact that Arias confessed to stabbing Travis over two dozen times, slit his throat, and shot him - then behaved as though she was grieving, and, helping the police catch his murderer is getting lost.

OK, I apologize for being OT again; I am so far behind in reading. I saw it mentioned that this "no lunch" thing will be an issue down the road for appeal if there is a conviction.

I would not worry about that at all. I believe the jury is going to disregard so much of JA's testimony given how many times it has been impeached, that what she says will not be given much, if any, weight during deliberations. I doubt they will deliberate about self-defense, unless something can be corroborated before the end of the trial. I think what they will deliberate is the issue of premeditation, and by end of trial that might not even need too much discussion.

With no self-defense proven, she will be convicted of first degree murder--either premeditated or capital murder. Those are the two options. I do not see an option for anything less than first degree unless I am missing something here.

I do not think JA will walk, but can you imagine if she does?!!! Any man she knows or meets in the future would be at risk--not to mention any women in their lives, or perceived by JA to be in their lives.

This jury has to get this right.

ETA: So it's felony murder, not capital murder. (Same thing in my state; not sure about AZ, but either way it's first degree murder or nothing in this case, from the looks of things.)
