Yes!!! That was it. We was sitting here watching the trial online and when she said that my sons gf and I were just floored. OMG she sounded so much like an immature teenager with her first crush. But that is part of her delusional mentality. It just really showed how totally obsessed she was with Travis and having him!!

It's actually a very telling sign about her Sociopathic/Personality Disorders tendencies.. their everything revolves around me, I'm right you're wrong, evasive that's not "what" I said traits like her smirking at JM today like she wanted to say "Whatevahhh" is a sign of their emotional immaturity so..

I totally agree. I unfortunately know all about yelling, as I grew up in a home with the real thing. And believe me, Juan is not yelling. He's also not droning on and on in that slow, boring monotone like Nurmi. What he is doing, is speaking very clearly, very concisely, and projecting his voice, just as someone in his position should be doing. In doing so he's asserting himself and demonstrating who's in charge of that court room. jmo

I have smelled a dead body before but I would definitely not call it a sweet smell especially once decomposition begins. It is a smell that the brain like "instantly recognizes" even if you had never smelled it before because you have no doubt that you are smelling death, and you NEVER forget that smell. I don't know that I explained it very well.

I think we recognize the smell as being human on some instinctual level.

She can't remember what time she went to work at Mimi's the day she claims she caught Travis masturbating to kiddie yet she remembers, via days and days and weeks of testimony, mountains of minutia about Costco water bottles and shops she shopped in and what the price of gas in Pasadena 4 years ago, etc., etc.

Imo, like somebody mentioned in the previous thread, I think what will be most damning is her response to how JM was 'bullying' and cross examining her. She is not coming off as a woman who has been abused, who is meek, fearful, etc..... To me she comes off as arrogant, combattive, smug, argumentative, etc.... And her smiling and smirking just makes it worse. This is not how I would perceive a battered and abused woman who killed her boyfriend in self defense to act.

If the jury is seeing what we are seeing this 'version' of JA is not in her favor. And unfortunately for her she sees this as a battle to be won with JM, but yet she doesn't realize she is going about it the wrong way.

I would add manipulative pathological liar.

If this is a true quote and Arias really said that, then that also proves it was not a self-defense killing. In self-defense you wouldn't ever believe you should be in prison. If Arias is saying she should be in prison (and we're talking life, for the most part), then that's a very big tell!

In "Picture Perfect" the 48 hours show done years ago, she says she'd rather get the DP than spend her life in prison. Still very telling. What a confused gal she is.LOL :rocker:

I have to wonder if Juan bringing up the photo of the finger and challenging her will make her self-conscious in the future. She talks so much with her hands. If she is forced to be aware of her "bent" finger all the time it may make it tougher for her to try to stay a step ahead with her next lie.

I give him kuddos for breaking through her soft spoken, terrified kitten ( I meant puppy) demeanor in such a short time. I think she is convinced she's running the show, but to me, the jury has all weekend to comprehend her smirk after she told Juan his demenor frightened her.

I didn't realize the photos wouldn't follow this quote, but when you look at them her hands are always in motion. Could it be to keep the attention away from her eyes...the windows to the soul?

I didn't see any of the trial today and tried to view it objectively tonight even though I'd read some of the comments throughout the day. I think the cross sucked, even accounting for my distaste for Juan. It sucked beyond my wildest expectations. I posted last night, I thought he would focus on the premeditation and proving her lies with the CLEAR and OBVIOUS recorded interviews. I'm mind blown and now understanding while he's still an ADA.

I too believe Juan will pull it all together. He went in a few directions I wasn't expecting and picked details I wouldn't expect him to pick to start with, but he obviously knows what he's doing and understands the big picture and all.

I think I'm used to prosecutors who first make big declarative statement/questions, for instance: "Ma'am you LIED and fabricated the story that you said you saw Mr. Alexander masturbating to pictures of little boys on Jan 21st...." and then when she denies it, start backing his way into the details to prove she couldn't be telling the truth because of the time of the calls, the time and content of the txt messages, the evidence not matching what she claimed, the mundane content of their dealings that day. The jury would know exactly where he was going right from the point of his first question on the topic instead of being on a meandering road that veers off in a few places, and he would have established his point right up front.

Instead he was off talking about what time she went to work and then he went off on a tangent about the exact hour she got to work and then he went into her non-memory of that exact time and then he went into cell phone vs landline and it just veered and it was difficult to follow.

There is a very calculated reason he has to take those side roads and go off on those tangents, imo. Because she is such a prolific liar and shape shifter, he does not want to telegraph to her exactly where he is heading.

While it is nice for the jury to hear big declarative statements about where he is going with his questions, it makes it too easy for her to fashion her bogus answers beforehand. If you want to catch someone in a lie, you cannot go in a linear, organized fashion, or they will be a step ahead of you.

Remember when he kept going at her to tell him what time she went to TA's and saw him with the child pictures? He already knew that there was a very very small window of time that day, and she did too. He was trying to trap her. He might have gotten just the tips of her toes in the trap with that line of questioning, because she wouldn't commit to an exact time. But then suddenly we saw the texts with her correct work time, and the texts between them, discussing mundane subjects, and then he veers off into the journal, and she get hardly get her bearings.

So, although it makes it harder for the jury, it also makes it harder for her. And THAT is the most important element right now. He doesn't need to make it all tight and buttoned up for the media, the press or the audience, he only needs to connect with the jury. And I think they are right on top of it.

THANK YOU, for this great post KaRN-- I had not quite put all of the pieces together on Juan's strategy today-- especially how the witness tampering may have played into it. I didn't know about the hearing long ago about the inadmissibility of the pedophile allegations-- and now it all makes sense. (I haven't followed the case very long.)

BUT-- my question is, if the pedophile allegations were inadmissible, AND Juan didn't object-- did he risk a mistrial or something? Is the judge upset about this? Was he "required" to object??

Just wanted to clarify something for you K_Z .... The judge determined that this hearsay evidence WAS admissible during a closed hearing on February 7th.

"...in a closed hearing Thursday, lawyers for the defense and the prosecution argued over whether Arias, who was in attendance, should be allowed to testify that she walked in on Alexander while he was masturbating to photographs of young boys.

Judge Sherry Stephens unsealed the transcript of the hearing after she determined that the evidence was admissible.

According to the transcript of Thursday’s hearing, Arias told psychological counselors and a domestic-violence expert that in January 2008, six months before she killed him, Arias walked in on Alexander in his bedroom when he had photos of young males spread out on his bed.

The abuse expert testified by telephone during Thursday’s hearing that at least two unspecified instances of domestic violence by Alexander occurred after that. She posited that Arias, knowing such a troubling secret about Alexander, would heighten the level of fear she had for Alexander and his need to exert control over her.

Martinez claimed that Arias had alternately said that Alexander was viewing pictures on a computer and viewing printed photographs. Furthermore, he brought two Mesa police investigators to the witness stand to say that they had found no pornographic images of any kind on Alexander’s computer, nor had they found photographs in his house.

Martinez had sought to block the testimony, but Stephens ruled that it was admissible and that Martinez would have ample opportunity to cross-examine Arias on the witness stand.

Remember, he really doesn't expect to get certain answers from her. He knows she is going to lie. He got precisely what he wanted. He illustrated her lies, totally impeached her testimony and got her to show her true colors - a creepy, smirky, arrogant, murderous brat.
