Wouldn't her lawyer tell her not to act like that, or does he hate her like everyone else.
Did he coach her to behave like someone who everyone will hate even more with that smug, I am better than thou attitude.

My son's girlfriend came by this afternoon, so of course... ...I made her watch the afternoon portion of the trial. She had an interesting comment.

She was saying how strange JA's behavior was, considering that she is trying to convince the jury that she is an innocent who was mistakenly arrested for murder. Wouldn't most of us try and show ourselves to be 'good' people who accidentally got caught in a big mess?

I remember in college , working in a boutique. All of the employees got called into an emergency meeting with the owner, who said someone stole 500 bucks and some clothing, and she was demanding to know who it was.

We were all together in the back room, and she brought us in one by one to interrogate us. Two of the employees were 'outraged' and trying to get us all to quit and to walk out and express our anger. And the other 5 of us were thinking, what? :what:
[ yup, those two were fired and nearly arrested.]

I was very gracious, and polite and open and tried hard to sincerely express my innocence. She asked me some aggressive and pointed questions, but I stayed calm, BUT NOT ARROGANT. I think my son's gf is right. Her arrogance and self righteousness screams guilt. JMO

I've seen posters say it's similar, but I'm not seeing it. The defendant in that case victimized an incapacitated cancer victim whom she was in complete physical control of for a clear financial motive. Not an able bodied guy who was using her for sex and she with no obvious motive other than, possibly, jealousy. Worlds apart, imo

Just curious.. did you expect that in a DP case Any prosecutor could wrap up their cross of the defendant in one day? :waitasec:

Juan tried to get as close to the 'murder day' if there wasn't so many DT objections and reading magazines to submit into evidence; JA re-reading 2 pages of her diary in 10 minutes or more and/or JA to answer Yes or No to the questions.. just not understanding what's reasonable amount of time to you? TIA

The coded message to Matt McCartney (presumably) in the magazine has been bothering me all day. I wish I had a screencap of it to post, but most of us saw it. The thing that really stood out to me was how she talked to him and ordered him around, i mean the "you ****ed up...", "get down here ASAP", "we can still fix this".

Hmmmm... "we"?

What is the deal with this guy? And in my opinion, there is one.

He was an ex boyfriend (by years). They had not been married, I mean they were actually only together for what, barely 2 years. She is in jail on first degree murder charges and by 2012 had told three different stories of what happened. Why is this guy doing ANYTHING she demands? Especially the way she is talking to him. Wouldn't you at least be nice and loving towards someone you were trying to manipulate to break the law for you? Talk about a bully... that message was all bully.

I hope we find out soon.

I tend to agree. The 10 minutes of pop-rocks and tootsie roll conversation made no sense to me and was just an absolute lead balloon. Not downing the guy, but man I hope he doesn't micro-focus this thing to death. I'd also fault the judge a bit for not cracking down on her nonsense/game playing. jmo

I agree! I posted about this earlier. I am all for Martinez making her answer yes or no to a simple question and not allowing her to give some convoluted response that doesn't answer the question. However, I don't like it when an attorney attempts to do that to an issue that doesn't lend itself to yes or no. It is entirely possible for someone to enjoy a sexual encounter in which both parties are acting out sexual fantasies (bubble bath, pop rocks, and braids in this case) and not have each element be exciting for both. Trying to force her to say that since she said she enjoyed it in her diary she enjoyed every element sounded just ridiculous to me.

On the whole I think Martinez does a good job but I think he has to be careful not to turn the jury off. I remember I was really upset with the way he cross examined Lisa D, a former girlfriend of Travis who was called by the defense. The poor young woman was not there to support Jodi, she was there because she was subpoenaed and she was clearly telling the truth as she saw it. He should have been more respectful to her.

I talked about it on mine, I live in La and no one except maybe three people commented. Which is rare for my friends. She could def get a fair trial here. When I try to talk to people ab it they all have no clue Poor jodi

I think the point of it was to get her to admit she liked the sex, and it wasn't Travis forcing her to do anything. No rape, no abuse...

I have asked myself the same question, why doesn't the judge tell her just to answer the question, yes or no. She seems to be mute.

I think Juan is doing an amazing job. Imo, he's just getting started and he shouldn't let her get away with anything, especially at first. For one thing, this arrogant psychopath needs to be knocked down a notch or two, she needs to learn who's in charge of the courtroom. Besides, trying to pander to a psychopath like her is like trying to reason with a snake, imo.

If Juan doesn't ask her for an instruction, She'll let it go,she won't do it herself.

After a break she did ask that Juan and Jodi not over talked each other for the court reporter sake. I'm sending that man a gift card. I love his expressions and he did have that penis looming over his head that day.

OMG, so I post on my Facebook page that I think Jodi Arias and Drew Peterson should get married. I'm thinking how many $$$ that would save the taxpayers. And my Facebook friends had no idea who Jodi Arias was. Jodi would be so upset. :great:
Or Scott Peterson or Joran VanDerSloot. I hear they're both available...

I didn't see any of the trial today and tried to view it objectively tonight even though I'd read some of the comments throughout the day. I think the cross sucked, even accounting for my distaste for Juan. It sucked beyond my wildest expectations. I posted last night, I thought he would focus on the premeditation and proving her lies with the CLEAR and OBVIOUS recorded interviews. I'm mind blown and now understanding while he's still an ADA.

I'm not sure what's wrong about being a district attorney for 29 years.

But listen, I think you would be hard pressed to find any attorney on here - people who know the business, know what it's like to conduct trials, know what it looks like when you are doing well or failing - to find that this man did a poor job. IMO he is brilliant. He's one of the best I have seen, frankly.

I thought it was absolutely brilliant the way Juan gained control of her. IMO he came out swinging and random disjointed order because he knew she wouldn't be able to remember what she previously said on the stand. Liars can't remember unless the story is linear. Only the truth can be told in any random order.

Then, knowing she's a psychopath and incapable of accepting responsibility he asked her what HER problem was with her memory. She blames his screaming and grilling her, the tone and demeanor. Immediately he lowers his voice and changes his tone.

She still can't remember because she's a liar left without an excuse! She then pokes her chin out in defiance! She thinks she won and smugly starts answering his yes no questions!

It was spectacular!

That's right. I actually use this technique sometimes in depositions - I try to ask questions that don;t seem to flow and sometimes it can be unnerving.

Wouldn't her lawyer tell her not to act like that, or does he hate her like everyone else.
Did he coach her to behave like someone who everyone will hate even more with that smug, I am better than thou attitude.

I have a feeling they have about as much client control as they can possibly have with a woman like her.

My opinion is what I said last night, that his cross would be succinct and not focused on various small examples of her lying when there are huge examples and horrific crime scene photos. Imo, he is coming across as the overzealous "true believer" that I thought he might. Rather than the rational person who can discredit the witness in 25 words or less. In this case, you shouldn't have to work so hard if you're the prosecutor. jmo...a thousand times..jmo

It's actually pretty succinct. Think about how many weeks she was on the stand. He's not going to cover everything she discussed. So far, he is challenging her claims about hair color, about pedophilia and fingers broken from abuse and about being a victim of sexual assault and coercion. Those are all very pivotal and important issues to discuss. He's doing beautifully.

I forget, who was it Jodi said was courting her?
I was laughing so hard over that word "courting" that I missed the facts.

Froggy Went A Courtin'

Apparently Travis was still "courting" her. That's how she justified calling Travis out over the supposed bra fastening woman she saw with him on January 21st when she "peeped" through his window. They were broken up, but he was still "courting" her. Who on g*d's green earth still uses that expression? Maybe in my grandmother's era LoL.

Jodi went a courtin' she did ride uh huh, Jodi went a courtin' she did ride, a sword and pistol by her side, oh Jodi went a courtin' she did ride uh huh. Kind of fitting no?

I didn't know who she was until this trial. I don't remember hearing about her in 2008. I guess I have a bad memory.

Possible jealousy??? This woman is an obsessive, jealous, rage-filled psychopath. Both women murdered their men. Both will end up on Death Row.

the cases are night and day, imo but I'll "mark your words" :)

Me too! Especially after today when she threw away her one big chance to play the maiden wronged. She just came off as icky poo pee pee pants.

Ahem. Too much time with toddlers. :blushing:

Sorry FrayedKnot... But I felt I had to alert the mods on your outburst of expletives...

ESPECIALLY since this case deals with such conservative, reserved matters!

Actually Wendi Andriano's case is very similar. Another female socio/psychopath who was controlling and abusive who claimed self defense in an extremely brutal overkill murder. The details may be different, but it is essentially the very same stuff we are seeing in this trial....change the name, looks, and some of the details and it's another version of Jodi.

It seems crazy that Jodi could have overpowered Travis without shooting him first, but I fully believe she did. I keep thinking of Travis naked and soaking wet slipping all over the tile floor trying to get away from Jodi stabbing him. In this pic it looks to me like she's wearing either Toms or an off brand that is similar to Toms. I know my Toms have a sole that keeps me from slipping on a wet floor. She would have had an advantage over him simply because she could stand firmly without slipping like he was. He clearly thrashed around on that floor from all the bruising on his legs. Breaks my heart. I cannot wait for Juan to drill her about the actual killing.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

  • #896
Oh I'm so sorry. Do you think Jodi was abused?

NO, she WAS the ABUSER in their relationship! I do not think that Travis EVER raised a hand (or foot) to her in anger. Every time I hear one of the supposed "Domestic Violence" experts (sarcasm) on JVM, NG, and Dr. Drew who say that she was abused have let her pull the wool over their eyes. On one of the shows tonight kept saying "but that doesn't prove that she killed him?" obviously are spouting opinions not backed up by facts in this case. I wanted to yell "what do you mean it doesn't prove that she killed him, SHE has already admitted that she killed him you dumb witch!!!! :furious:

mom and aunt laugh inappropriately in court....so does Jodi

That REALLY made me mad!!!! TA's family got called out before for showing grief/sadness, but the dumpy duo act like they are having a ball ~ all fun and games when little liar is on the stand!!

Lisa was thrilled to have Juan cross her. She was dying to answer the questions he posed. IMO, he was totally respectful of her. I think some mistake emphatic for "mean". But i don;t think the jurors are making that mistake. :twocents:

Sometimes the leopard cannot even pretend to change its spots. KWIM?

I was imagining the lawyers were going to try to help her with her demeanor this weekend and I was trying to imagine what leaning aids they were going to use - like maybe they have videos of women who have gotten off with self-defense? IDK

OMG hope they don't show her Betty Broderick! hearing Mr Bill ohh nooo:noooo:
