ok .. so this afternoon, I thought I head Juan say 'your former attorney' (when referring to Ann Campbell getting the magazines). But thought I must have heard it wrong, but now I just heard Dr.D say the same thing. Did this Ann Campbell actually represent Jodi at some point? maybe when JA was trying to be her own attorney?
I remember someone did a great post about all the different lawyers she's had, so maybe someone remembers this. I did a quick google search and didn't find anything

Just curious.. did you expect that in a DP case Any prosecutor could wrap up their cross of the defendant in one day? :waitasec:

Juan tried to get as close to the 'murder day' if there wasn't so many DT objections and reading magazines to submit into evidence; JA re-reading 2 pages of her diary in 10 minutes or more and/or JA to answer Yes or No to the questions.. just not understanding what's reasonable amount of time to you? TIA

I thought he would cut to the chase. I posted what I thought would be his high points last night. I would have expected three sessions -- a morning, afternoon, morning. But not much more than that. So far, he's on schedule, technically, but the substance isn't what I'd expect. jmo

I agree, I haven't watched them now for several nights, and I'm much happier. :D

--------------
Hi, I watched them tonight on and off. I was cooking! I have one thing in my craw and it wont move! I think it was at the end of N.G. some woman was on she said the jury could accquit her because of something!! I tell you I was so PO"d I cant even remember what else she said! This "woman" slit a mans throat and chopped him up! How could anyone totallly accquit her? Turn her loose to dye her hair and do it again? IMO she is some kind of maniac..She should never step on pavement again. Thank you all, I feel better.:heartbeat::seeya:

Lisa was thrilled to have Juan cross her. She was dying to answer the questions he posed. IMO, he was totally respectful of her. I think some mistake emphatic for "mean". But i don;t think the jurors are making that mistake. :twocents:
IIRC she threw him for a loop too when she answered something that was not answered as to what she was supposed to have answered...and that is why he seemed to get testy with her.

  • #906
That REALLY made me mad!!!! TA's family got called out before for showing grief/sadness, but the dumpy duo act like they are having a ball ~ all fun and games when little liar is on the stand!!

I don't believe they will be having such a ball and laughing when the verdict is read... just a guess.:furious:

I tend to agree. The 10 minutes of pop-rocks and tootsie roll conversation made no sense to me and was just an absolute lead balloon. Not downing the guy, but man I hope he doesn't micro-focus this thing to death. I'd also fault the judge a bit for not cracking down on her nonsense/game playing. jmo

He didn't micro-focus; she did. He showed that her journal entry couldn't have been more positive about the sex that night. She refused to say that she enjoyed it. Then she refused to say she liked it, after she already said she liked it (but didn't enjoy it). Interspersed were episodes of her acting like she didn't understand that they were talking about the same night and some 'oh! that night, yes, but No. Oh, well this part and not that part so I can't answer that.' Ad nauseum.

She is just trying to confuse the jury. But Juan still showed the key things there: her positive journal entry and her refusal to say she enjoyed it now, contradicting her own entry.

In the defense's version, remember, it was a terribly degrading and abusive experience. Not with that journal entry, it wasn't. I do hope that's clear between all her BS and games, because she will keep playing those.

ITA and let's keep in mind that JM knew he had one day before a long weekend! Why get in the middle of the premeditation and murder questions only to give JA and her attorneys material to practice over the weekend? I think spending today on pointing out lies was brilliant!

Oh and it was said by someone earlier that he should have focused on the lies she made during interviews. :what: One, she had already admitted to those lies! Two, he did insert part of the detective Flores interview into his questioning about her finger.

Spending today focusing on debunking her broken finger, introducing witness tampering, and calling out her lies about her pedophile claim.... Pointing to inconsistencies and lies she has made ON THE STAND is brilliant!!!

Go Juan!! I have complete faith he knows exactly what he's doing and has the big picture in mind! :rocker:

MOO

I hope not. I felt so bad for her when I was watching him. I couldn't understand what I perceived of as his negative attitude to her when I knew she was on his side.

I think something kind of important came out of that segment though. She had to read out loud some of her journal, about how wonderful and fulfilling their sexual fantasy life was. And that showed two things, imo. One, that she was totally into that stuff and it wasn't all forced on her by Travis.

And two, it showed that she wrote very personal stuff in her journal. So it doesn't work to use that weak excuse that she was afraid to write anything too secretive.

My opinion is what I said last night, that his cross would be succinct and not focused on various small examples of her lying when there are huge examples and horrific crime scene photos. Imo, he is coming across as the overzealous "true believer" that I thought he might. Rather than the rational person who can discredit the witness in 25 words or less. In this case, you shouldn't have to work so hard if you're the prosecutor. jmo...a thousand times..jmo

He is not focusing on small issues. Right out the gate he attacked her travis the evil abuser broke my finger with evidence that the finger was not broken in may, january, april or anyday jodi told us. he put up EVIDENCE that knocked that lie out the park. He pointed out the her diary which held her private thoughts before she had a reason to start fabricating mentioned NO ABUSE or PEDO from travis, he takes the time to point out that during the times when these events had supposedly happened JODI WROTE NOTHING SIGNIFICANT happened..blah blah blah. He knocked down her finger stories by showing the jury all the lies about how she injured that finger...

He Knocked out the PEDO claims by proving that Travis was not home during her walk in and she was at work. Again another major lie used in her defense (He was a PEDO)

He knocked down her baptismal rape story by reading from her journal that she enjoyed all the freaky sex tootsie pops etc that her heart desired. There was no baptismal rape that day. Another big lie in her case. She speaks glowingly about that date..reminicing about all the freaky things they did and how much she liked it and loved travis...

He went over her obsesive need to confront the men she was no longer dating by peeping and confronting the ex when she knew the relationship is over. He unmasked Jodi for the confrontational crazy person she is. and how far she would go to do this. She drove miles to confront the woman and her friend was so scared that he tipped the girl off and gave Jodi the wrong apartment. Crazy Jodi went out of her way to find that woman's apartment. Her Jealousy led her to confront and scare others.

He is showing us now how she conspired in jail in 2012 with matt by attempting to tamper with his interview with the prosecution.."You ****ed up..." She smuggled this coded message out to him so that his testimony wouldn't contradict her lies she told her attorneys..THIS IS BIG. SHOWS THAT SHE WOULD GO TO ANY LENGTHS TO FABRICATE FALSE TESTIMONY..

All of these are big points scored. He's knocking down stories crucial to her defense. exposing them as lies. This is day 1 of his cross and he's dealing with a psycho who is purposely misleading the jury, lying about events, acting as if she can't comprehend any questions asked by manipulating his words. This is no easy task. Do you think he should question her Nurmi style and let her slip under the radar. He's doing his job effectively and anyone with two eyes can see the significance in his cross so far. He's restoring travis' reputation and pointing out obvious and BLATANT lies with evidence. He's showing us who the real jodi is.

Today we left off with her road trip..i think he might introduce evidence of her dying her hair at the nail salon...Its only been 1 day. Give him a break.

Will do... I'll wait up to make sure she makes it 'home' safely before I tell her the news.:great:

I thought it was absolutely brilliant the way Juan gained control of her. IMO he came out swinging and random disjointed order because he knew she wouldn't be able to remember what she previously said on the stand. Liars can't remember unless the story is linear. Only the truth can be told in any random order.

Then, knowing she's a psychopath and incapable of accepting responsibility he asked her what HER problem was with her memory. She blames his screaming and grilling her, the tone and demeanor. Immediately he lowers his voice and changes his tone.

She still can't remember because she's a liar left without an excuse! She then pokes her chin out in defiance! She thinks she won and smugly starts answering his yes no questions!

It was spectacular!

I love that he didn't even greet her!! Just BAM, questions!!!!! She isn't worthy of the most basic salutation IMO...

Yep, it should read:

Page 43 - You f****d up. What you told my attorney next day

Page 40 - Directly contradicts what I have been saying for over a year

Page 56 - Get down here asap and see me before you talk to them
again and before

Page 20 - You testify so

Page 37 - We can fix this

Page 54 - Interview was excellent! Must talk asap!

She is talking to Matt in the magazine code.
What's the whole story about Matt?
He's the one she called when she was pretend-thinking suicide and called him about getting a gun, IIRC.
She was in a official relationship with Matt in 2000-2001, but had sex with him again once per Jodi, more per my thoughts.
She went to work at Vandana's then Matt got hired right after.
Returned books of his=BS
Why'd she have to go see him before her trip to Travis's? She slept on the floor sharing one room with Matt and some other guy.
Why would he help her during the pedophile allegations?
He also helped spread rumors saying he saw her with a bruised neck, when today Jodi made it sound like she hardly saw Matt.
It's astounding how many men she revisited and kept in her "tickle file" to get something out of them, IMO.

YES, I have a lot of MATT QUESTIONS.

WHY did TRAVIS Tell JODI - "YOU SCAMMED ME."?

OMG hope they don't show her Betty Broderick! hearing Mr Bill ohh nooo:noooo:

She better not act like Broderick. BB just got refused parole for another 15 yrs.
BB's incapable of feigning remorse, but at least she knows how to turn on the waterworks.

Juan woke up the Jury today!

I thought he did a wonderful job.

I don't know if it has been discussed here yet, but the woman who is writing a book on this case. Shanna Hogan, was on Dr. Drew tonight. She said about the messages in the magazines, "This was one of the most powerful moments in court. I've known about this for a couple of years because this came out in some of the earlier hearings. But these messages were written in pencil basically in the margins of a Star [sic] magazine and what testimony showed today [was] that she was trying to attempt to have these jailhouse messages smuggled out of the jail, delivered to her ex-boyfriend....How this relates to the pedophile claim is that this...ex-boyfriend had come into the picture and had given letters that seemed to show evidence that Travis was a pedophile which were later proven to be forgeries." [I got most of that lol]

Another good quote from tonight:

dr bethany marshall [ on Nancy Grace]:

"What we are seeing is a true sociopath. When we talk about the sociopath being glib, superficially charming, cunning, manipulative, not having remorse--this is her. Sociopaths are never tongue tied, and the reason they are not tongue tied is that they have freed themselves from social conventions like, 'I'm feeling ashamed' or embarrassed. "

Oh, and this is my first post. Happy to finally be here.

Today rendered me speechless for a while. It was a momentous day in this trial. :eye: :eye:

I was surprised that some seemed to think JA would shake like a "chihuahua" during cross. No, she revealed well the psychopath underneath. Psychopaths do not know or understand fear as we do. But arrogance? That is their old reliable.

Any semblance of the meek, soft-spoken, naive little girl she was trying to put on the for the jury was just shattered today, folks. She valued her pride above all, including keeping up her schoolgirl act. She was cold, snarky, rude, and at times belligerently evasive. Mr. Martinez brought this out of her in day one of cross (along with the admission of multiple lies).

That very pride will be a nail in her coffin, IMO. Now, I have a lot of thread reading & "thanking" to do!

I'm not sure how much of the trial you've been able to see but thus far he is not micro-focusing. He possibly could have been a bit tighter in his tootsie pop line of questioning but the jury knew exactly what it was about. What is was about was impeaching jodi's testimony during direct that she was this innocent wallflower coerced into humiliating sexual escapades by Travis.

He successfully impeached her testimony, IMO (although there wasn't much to impeach because even though she said she "wasn't comfortable" or whatever, she also testified a lot about how much she loved the sex. And then we all heard the sex tape!!).

He already did that in his CIC. He doesn't have to prove his case again, what he has to do is tear down her ridiculous defense. He is handling her the way she needs to be handled. He will not give her the opportunity to run off on her wild tangents with her detailed stories to confuse the point. He knows what he's dealing with IMO. And he will work extremely HARD for this victim and his family. The victim's reputation is at stake, and that is probably pretty important to his loved ones. I admire Juan Martinez greatly for taking that to heart. And I do not think that will hurt his case at all. JMHO.

I recently re-watched the 48 Hours episode, after hearing Jodi explain how she came up with the two ninjas, a man and a woman. "Symbolically," they represented her and Travis.

If you listen to what she says those two ninjas did, and then imagine Jodi and Travis as the two people, it sends chills down your spine. On 48 Hours, she mentioned, that Travis was crawling on all fours and screaming "Help me!" IMO, this part -- Travis crawling and screaming-- must have really happened...
