I was coming here to say, now that we know it was JD who first suggested taping these conversations, it all makes sense.

IMO, the fact that they are both adult children of addicts is all.

This sounds very much like conversations I had with my best friend, also an ACOA - in middle school…

I suspect very much that Amber got in trouble with her parents as a child when she got pinned down in a lie; and that as a result she’ll do anything to avoid getting pinned down in one as an adult, because it means punishment.
thought provoking.

saw a bit of his humor there when he commented on let's give something else to object to in response to moving on to another question.

(On his alcohol or drug use while in a relationship with Heard) Depp: Am I an alcoholic? Or is this the same thing I did as a kid when I took my mom's nerve pill?
.......
After Heard's attorney objects, Depp's attorney says she will ask another question.
Depp: Let's let him object to another one.
.......

Ouch Johnny!

Humour or passive aggressive, I wonder.

both lol
But I have been unimpressed by the seeming bias the judge has shown AH and her team in terms of which objections she sustains.

Depp says at one point he asked Heard to stop drinking with him and she said no. He also said she used MDMA, mushrooms and "speed, if you will."
.......
Depp: It didn't happen ... As I said yesterday, I've never struck Miss Heard. I've never struck a woman in my life. I'm certainly not going to strike a woman if she decides to make fun of a tattoo I have on my body.

I sympathize with Depp if all he is saying is true. However, his long, slow, monotone testimony sounds more like therapy session. Depp is on a witness stand in a court of law and his testimony is highly unusual.
Even though it appeared it was awkwardly painful for him ,as an introvert, to give the back story yesterday …it helps me understand his testimony today.
I also feel he(very not like Amber)he does not enjoy berating or exposing another person.

He is on track today IMO !

Depp is now telling jurors about the famous "Winona Forever" tattoo that was replaced with "Wino Forever," after he and Winona Ryder broke up.

Yes I agree...it is sort of a "stream of consciousness" and not at all typical testimony. Letting him ramble I guess is the strategy. Going to be interesting on cross...they won't tolerate it.

I could be wrong…but it appears he’s loaded for bear today. I bet he does well on cross.

yeah, this ‘tattoo slap’ story has always smacked of something fake.

I mean, you can certainly see it thought up in the head of somebody AH’s age who spent no time following his career; but for anyone roughly his age… the tattoo has been mentioned in about every interview he has ever done for 35 years; as well as being mentioned ad nauseam in dozens of articles on ‘celebrity breakups’ and ‘celebrity tattoos’; and not a small amount of Winona Ryder’s interviews over the past 35 years.

I’m sure he’s more than used to knowing people think it’s hilarious.

I think he’s coming across very sincere and genuine. The family background (so personal) from yesterday is providing context to today.

ETA thanks for updates, btw. Have had a soft spot for JD since Gilbert Grape, amazing film IMO and not least for the outstanding performance from a v young Leo!

Depp testifies

Depp on May 2014: Filming Black Mass in Boston. Heard went with him. Lot of prosthetics used. 14-16 hr. work days.

Jerry Judge, Wyatt, Deuters, Holmes, Connelly accompanied them to Boston.

Told RN he was taking more Roxycodine, so that he wouldn't run short. More for his "back pocket" as he was fearful of getting withdrawal symptoms.

I hope prosecution puts on precise and professional cross-exam to make up for this very disappointing direct. Surprised judge hasn't put forth some rules

(On the plane ride from Boston to Los Angeles) Depp: Actively searching for a way to instigate a fight with me. I had taken two of these opiates. Opiates are downers, if you have enough in you you'll drop into sleep.
.......
Depp: When I arrived on the plane, I was not feeling anything. I knew she was ready for some kind of brawl. I sat on the plane drawing ... She would verbally heckle, hassle, accuse, poke, prod, physically, psychologically.

Depp says after the flight Heard was "irate" and went to the Chateau Marmont. "I can't say it was a bad idea for her to stay at the Chateau Marmont at that time." Depp also says he paid for Heard's room.
.......
Morning break.

thanks @Allabouttrial for these snips of testimony. A client popped in and I was AFK for about 20 minutes or so. Helped me keep up. I think today's testimony is much more cohesive and on point.

Depp's testimony switched gears to discuss Dr. Kipper and Debbie Lloyd, Depp's personal doctor and nurse. Jurors saw video depositions of both Dr. Kipper and Lloyd earlier this week.
.......
Depp says, while he never feels comfortable admitting it, he has an island in The Bahamas. That's where he traveled to with Debbie Lloyd and Amber Heard to complete a detox.
.......
(On a detox from opioids) Depp: It feels like the inside of you ... is trying to escape the body. It becomes obviously very physical, so therefore you'll go into a withdrawal ... The pain is like nothing I've ever experienced before.
