Jose Baez to read Casey Anthony's Statement regarding her daughter's memorial

Question: did they say whether or not they thought Casey must have given permission for cremation and if so, does that mean she's saying she didn't, just to make the Anthony's look bad?

In order for the Medical Examiner to release the remains to the A's, KC had to sign documents giving the A's custody and control of them to her parents. From that point on Cindy gets to make the decisions regarding their ultimate disposition and treatment.

By JB calling this press conference and delivering this statement, it seems as though JB wants KCs #1 public enemy status to rise to even loftier heights.

JB did not get a cash payment from KC for his services. Instead by all apprearences he is being given to sell certain properties and stories such as pictures and movies of Caylee, to media outlets. Or charge licensing fees fro their use.

Florida and most states do not permit contingency fee's in criminal cases for a reason, and this is precisely why. KC is not well served by being viewed as public enemy #1... but JB's chances of compensation, fame, and follow up business vastly improve the longer she is in the spotlight as the most hated woman in america.

Making her "Osama" like in hatred makes her quite a bit more valuable. The outcome of a trial and the verdict is not important. He wants her isolated so he can continue the march. Likened to the Bataan death march, where Casey is his prisoner. I think he was smart enough to understand that she would glom onto him, and she did.

LP and RG are disgusting, as well. it's not about Caylee there, either. i have lost count of the number of ways this little girl has been used for capitalization. get this day over with and may she finally FINALLY rest in peace. i doubt it, though. what a completely and utterly selfish family.

Well, this just keeps getting stranger and stranger. I missed most of it in real time, but after watching JB's statement (I believe he was outside of his office), I can't help but wonder WTH is wrong with this picture? First, the horns honking "basically" blew any bit of professionalism JB could muster. Why couldn't he do the presser near the building?
Second, his attempt at appealing to the hispanic population was nice, but they won't be
part of the jury pool, so he was just getting as much airtime as possible, IMO. His presser was free advertizing, and it had no place in this time of rememberance for an innocent child that was murdered. Shame on you Baez (i've lost count of how many times I've said that over the last 7 months).

I thought it was sooo funny that he got pissed every time a horn honked. I think he has forbid the press from being on his property, so he has to go across the street for pressers. LOL!

Agreed.

Yes, they are a grossly disfunctional family from way before Caylee was born, and yes Cindy is a control freak who lacks a certain degree of charisma. But above and beyond that none of us could imagine the horror that they are living through. They have obviously lived with a monster in their midst for a long long time, and it finally did the absolutely unthinkable. I don't know if there is any way to ever mentally recover from what they have been through. And the hordes of reporters and public attention probably doesn't help. On this day I will give them a pass on almost anything if it will help them grieve.

Dysfunctional YES. But that does not make for vilification.
I bet that at least 50% of the families of any of the posters here are also dysfunctional.
By the way I have a daughter that was not diagnosed till she was 40 and I tried to get her diagnosed when she was 16 but I could not. she left every therapist long before they can have her diagnosed - but Mothers do know deep inside. SURE i went through many times of thinking it is just a rebellious stage that she will outgrow but deep inside Mom's do know.

Casey's parents do not know what to do, none of us could know what to do with a Casey.
I do not think we should be that harsh on the Anthony's, I really don't.

ETA Okay, now I get what she's saying. Looks to me like she addressed the points that Baez wanted her to. Casey likes caskets (not trashbags), Casey likes privacy (doesn't love the spotlight), Casey misses Caylee (despite what everyone thinks.)

Initially, I thought to myself that she was taking a chance to jab at her Mother once again. That could still be true, I don't know if we are reading too much into it or not.

Ultimately, I decided that it was a Defense move. To show that she and her family are even more alienated that we percieve. There is palpable hatred for the A family and it is discussed online at different areas that allow people to post an opinion (on say like an article) all the time so it would lead me to believe that some of that discussion does flow over into real life. So she chose to seperate herself from them (and that hatred for their actions) by basically telling everyone that would listen that this is not what she wanted and she is powerless. I mean if you listen to it closely she is portraying herself as powerless and ultimately a victim.

I had seen some posts here quite a while ago and those posters suggested that KC might throw GA under the bus. I think she and the defense will focus on CA more than GA. This will prove very interesting when we finally hear the defense speak.

i think the tone that jb read her statement in, is not the tone that she wrote it in. I can see her shaking her fists and yelling, spewing venom, making faces and pointing her finger while saying i let my parents be in charge, i did not want a public ceremony. I don't believe it was a diplomatic as jb presented it.

I like the way you think....Ultimately the family is aligned.
They all wanted a Privet Memorial at first but "The People" with their public opinion jumped at them - like they do at everything that they do. like they did at Lee today because he said CMA like they do all day long just jump on them. This memorial was to Shut the public up; and let them all have closure.
The Anthony's will more then likely have their PRIVET memorial without the press. They do not need additional chit from the public, what they are going through we will never know. But seems to me that they get vilified no matter what they do.
BY the way, what Casey had written was short and to the point...I am sure it will be dissected to equal something different then what it really is.

I actually read little here, just enough to know what is going on.
TO me it is like a lynch Mob.
I feel so sorry for that family. Casey will get her dues. but not everything is to be vilified.

It was a sad day although JB job is to think about the trial and how to defend his client - until the trial is over, that is what his job is - IMO pure PR to make KC appear innocent missing Caylee and I apologize to WS'ers that think I am being callous because I don't mean to take anything away of the significance of the Memorial for Caylee and how much this meant for the A's but JB is not a stupid attorney and to back him up he has the best defense attorney for reasonable doubt and neither of these two would ever let their guard down and make a move that wasn't in the best interest for their client.

Casey's statement about the memorial service was true to form: what I want, what THEY are doing against MY will, what I would like to do in the future, how much I hate the public and the media and want to close them out from everything to do with Caylee, how greedy and selfish I am because I will not be allowed to personally attend a memorial, therefore no one else should be allowed to attend either. CLASSIC CASEY ANTHONY!

I disagree. If this were a defense tactic, then they would want to gain sympathy right? How in this world is saying that your family isn't honoring your wishes gaining sympathy? The public would agree with the Anthony's not honoring her wishes before they would feel sympathy for Casey..
Now, had she wrote a statement about how much she cries, and how much she loves her daughter, and just how bad she wants the people who did this to come forward and relieve themselves of the burden in their hearts, or talked about Caylee in the least bit through her statement, she may get a tiny bit of sympathy.. Casey said she misses her..what? and thats all?
A defense tactic would have been better served if she would have sat there and said nothing, just like she has done all along. JMHO
