"The alleged appearance at the club happened the afternoon of Dec. 7, when police were still looking for Susan, Josh and their two children. They had been reported missing that morning after a day care provider grew concerned because the children had not been dropped off on schedule.
Josh showed up to his home with the kids between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. that evening."
"The man strip club employees identified as
Powell came in around 2 p.m. wearing a hat. He ordered two beers and a shot
and left after about an hour-and-a-half to two hours."
I am assuming a now intoxicated Josh, who was too afraid to answer his phone earlier, finally decides to answer it and, after hearing the police are at his house waiting for him, does drive around trying to get up the courage to go home and hoping the effects of the alcohol will wear off. He could have simply parked or could have actually been driving around.
"Bartender Liz Burkholder, who later identified Powell in several photos from police,
says the man tried to make advances toward her,
take her picture -- a no-no in strip clubs -- and then was rude and vulgar when she declined." This is why they took his cell phone away!
Tim Peterson told the Deseret that he tried several times to contact Josh Powell on the 7th,
and when he finally made contact, Joshua did not seem concerned about his wife’s whereabouts.
It took him approximately 2 hours to return home and when asked where he was he stated that he was ‘driving around West Valley City.

FACT: We do know Josh Powell spoke to Tim Peterson on the phone about 2 hours before going home.
FACT: We do know Josh Powell was doing something during those two hours

FACT: The bartender stated Josh arrived at the bar at 2:00 PM
FACT: Josh Powell arrived home between 5:00 and 6:00 PM
FACT: A minimum of three hours transpired between 2:00 and when Josh arrived home.
If Tim Peterson is right about how long it took Josh to arrive home, and Josh was really at the bar, this phone call would have taken place between 3:00 and 4:00 PM.
If Josh stayed at the bar for 1 1/2 hours, he would have left at 3:30
If Josh stayed at the bar for two hours, he would have left at 4:00
I am guessing Josh left the bar at 3:30 and answered his ringing cell phone while walking to his car which would have brought him home at 5:30
