I've been thinking lately about this whole Duggar phenomenon and why people are still talking about it/interested in it. I am really starting to think this is what the world of "reality TV" is coming to. These real life scenarios are what people want to watch. They want to see "inside" the life of a celebrity when darker days befall them. To see how THEY handle turmoil and watch it unfold in contrast to how the family down the street would handle it. Most people assume that celebrities live in a completely different world than the rest of us...that somehow their feelings are different - maybe they want to relish in the idea that money can't prevent this from happening - nor does a life of luxury offer reprieve from these life altering issues.
The topic of molestation and sexual abuse is HIGH on people's radar right now. People want to hear more about it - and maybe understand how families see (or in the case of the Duggar's - IGNORE) signs. Does the family "recover" from such an event? How do the dynamics of the house change? Are the abusers shunned within their families (adult or minor children)? Do the parents divorce/stay together? Will we get to see inside counseling sessions with the victims/molesters? Does the victim confront their abuser ON LIVE TV?!!

Are there families who DO overcome this and end up living "normal" lives?
It's all a world that (thankfully) a lot of people may not be privy to, yet maybe have a curiosity of how families suffering through it, cope. This IS reality TV in the sense of dealing with real life issues - not deciding if we are going on vacation to Fiji or taking an African safari this year.
People LOVE to see inside the lives of other people (celebrity or otherwise) and sadly, I believe this "reality train" that the media has created is destined to go down this path sooner or later. I'd like to believe NEVER, but money talks and if they know people will watch, SOMEONE will put it on.:sigh:
