Josh Powell's House in WA blows up - Thread #2

Short summary:

2 five-gallon gas cans discovered in remains of house, this was the accelerant used

Josh had sent email to several people, some were short like the one to his lawyer (I'm sorry, goodbye) and others included instructions on where his money was kept, info on utility shut off, etc.

All 3 bodies found in the middle of the house

So far they have not found anything that indicated Josh had given any information on Susan's case in the emails

Autopsies currently being performed, will know more in a couple hours

He stated a number of times, this was definitley pre-planned. How far in advance they are not sure yet

I probably missed stuff here, but thats what I remember off the top of my head.

ETA: Also, I could have sworn he said that Josh had lived in this house since August? Maybe I heard that wrong.

One gas can was near the bodies, which were in the center of the home, whatever that room would have been.

There was accelerant (gasoline) all over the home (my note: presumably inside). They may never know whether it was spread before the boys arrived or just afterwards.

Preliminary info indicates no gunshot wounds on the bodies and there has been no gun found in the home.

Email msgs also went to his pastor, cousins, and (my note: LE...he said "us"). None of the email msgs (currently known about) were sent with enough time for anyone to have done anything to stop his actions. One email msg said that he couldn't live without his boys.

They're still investigating where and when he acquired the gasoline.

No question that it was planned, and further investigation may indicate how far in advance.

There was no guarantee they would find her in a summer either, so I don't understand the idea of "waiting for the summer."

You are right. They've already had 2 summers to find her.

The hard drive could survive. There are a few companies that specialize in this. One is Kroll Inc. They were able to recover hard drive info from the space shuttle Columbia.

I have a techie friend who said he once retrieved information from a burnt hard drive. He works for a computer repair company.

I hope LE aquires videos from nearby gas stations/quick marts from the date of the hearing last week until yesterday. video has to be out there somewhere and it would tell how far in advance he planned to murder his boys if he was caught on video filling gas cans. jmo

Another I'm wondering about --- Charlie's school assignment was to draw a picture of something you did DURING THE SUMMER. Charlie drew the van with his mother in the trunk -- but that was something that happened 2 years earlier in the winter. BUT....this past summer, didn't Josh again disappear with his 2 sons on another "camping trip" -- which sent some tips to the cops and that's when they scoured that desert area and found the burnt wood? Could the boys have been with him this summer when he did something else with her body?

I think there are some people who are just so evil that nothing can or will stop them from achieving their goal. The particulars don't matter, what the system did or didn't do is irrelevant. If not this way, JP would have done it somewhere else in some other way. I really believe the ending would be the same if he'd had a completely supervised meeting in a very public place; he just would have used a different method. So I blame JP and only JP. There was no way to stop him.

A bullet would have stopped him.IMO when someone is a POI in a murder or DV of the other parent supervised visitation should only be in a Court House.

So much for that ridiculous "Josh is a wonderful, caring parent" nonsense that his family was spouting. He was nothing more than a twisted, evil, incredibly cowardly person - selfish to the core.

I wonder if the delay is because time the person gone is important in a no body case. The longer they are gone more likely not coming back and are dead.

The coward wasn't "driven" to this. He wasn't crazy and he didn't reach his breaking point due to the loss of custody of Charlie and Braden and the allegations and suspicion against him.

No. The coward wasn't mentally ill. He was spiritually ill. He was evil.

The coward planned and plotted this. He felt he was suffering. Thus, if he could not stop his suffering, he would end his life and since he had to go, he decided they had to go. He decided to take two innocent lives a long with his own because if he suffered, they (the boys and their grandparents) must suffer as well. He did not give a damn about the boys, about their rights to live and be happy and grow old. All he cared about was his own feelings and his own rights. So, he deprived the boys of their lives, of their right to happiness on earth of their right to be more than
their father's possessions.

I hope all those people who wrote declarations about what a good father he was take note. Good fathers, as I said in the past on this thread, do not kill their children's mother. Good father's don't keep their children from loving grandparents. Well, if that was not enough to prove to the coward's supporters that he was not a good father, surely this must be.

He was not driven to this. He was not insane. He chose this and good fathers do not kill their kids.

With the email stating where to turn off the utilities it sounds more like he did leave the gas on. He then used the gasoline to make sure the house burnt quick. If I recall there were reports of people hearing explosion which would be the gas from stove exploding, Either way these poor children nor Susan family or the poor case worker did not deserve this.

Josh also donated toys and cloths (to Goodwill?) over the weekend- just one more piece of evidence they have that this was planned.

Yes the boys were playing yesterday and didn't want to go see their father yet they RAN to him.
