If that had been my daughter, and the police told me they suspected prior abuse, I would have asked a thousand questions, such as: What do you mean? What did you find? Are you sure that's something that had to have been the result of abuse? Is there no other explanation? How could that happen? Who could have done that? When was she around someone who would have done that, and where? How badly injured was she? How could I not have known? Did she act like there was a problem, and I didn't notice that's what it was? Did she try to tell me and I didn't realize? What about my other children - has this happened to them?
and I would have ended that interview with insistence that they find this dangerous person and I would have followed up by doing everything I could to help them hunt this person down and hold them accountable for torturing and killing my innocent, defenseless child.
