Judge's Order re: OP's Mental Health Eval Thread #42

Oscar really has gone for the dumbest defence of all... of course, I acknowledge that he didn't have a lot of time to conjure up one, but looking back thru SA Law Literature, he had a myriad of options..

one bloke got aquitted because he was so enraged when his partner told him he had AIDS< he lost control of his moral functions and offed him instantly..

Another bloke murdered his wife and children, but luckily had a long record of depression and general nuttiness.. he is still detained at the Governors pleasure ..but gets reasonably generous parole every now and then..

another one was aquitted of murder on the grounds of being battered by his wife.. now if Oscar had claimed that Reeva took for him with the cricket bat. .. maybe... one has to put a lot of thought into one's defence, obviously, before the event..

bbm

... or in the months between bail and trial.

If the Pistorius supporters are reading on WS, then now there are more options for defense, #4 or #5 or #...

I dont think people realise how damning it was for both Saayman and Botha to agree that Reeva only took a few breaths after being shot in the head, they might as well of said that the 2nd sounds were the gunshots.

OP supporters would say, "Time does not matter in this case. Look at the arterial spurts at the stair case. Reeva was alive until OP set her down on the entryway floor. Yes is is unusual, but she is unique."

That is exactly what some on both sides are saying and its false logic works for both sides. You just have to omit that one detail in Saymaan's testimony and stand firm on all of Nest's testimony. It's very easy, but flawed for both sides.

Can someone explain how to do a screenshot, please? Step by step on how to. Like if I was watching a video and wanted a screenshot of a picture in the video, how would I do that? Thanks in advance.

I think we are seriously expected to do so by a very small contingent... why anyone would expect to be guided by Gianni Merlo , whoever or whatever he is, is so off the wall, words fail me.

Whilst I won't be rushing out to buy "Bladerunner" - as I would be paying towards his Defence Fund and I'd rather donate to the SA NPA- if I had this book to hand I would be reading it in order to read between the lines of spin, to see what he had left out.

However to get to the point, Gianni Merlo is the top Italian sports journalist who stuck in my mind from one of the first documentaries post killing and was willing to state his misgivings. “Have we unwittingly cultivated a monster?” He is not your average ghost writer hack, just double-checked, he is/has been of late, President International Sports Press Association and Chairman of Press Commission of IAAF.

Additionally, of interest in the link below is the number of weapons owned by the OP family and and the cavalier attitude to law exhibited by young OP – presumably sanctioned by Pistorius clan elders?

“ His autobiography, Blade Runner, ghostwritten by Mr. Merlo, is replete with stories that are presented as hijinks or accidents, even though they could have warranted police scrutiny. He described himself as an “adrenalin junkie” from an early age. At 15, he was allowed to drive his brother’s car illegally around Pretoria. Both he and his brother bought their first cars when they were 17, too young for driver’s licences.”
This all speaks volumes about OP clan to me!

Snap! I just wrote about this and had the same link but you bet me too it. Great post! (Here's mine anyways...)

I find there is a serious issue with celebrity worship syndrome around Pistorius, in terms of pressure on witnesses. On one hand it's important for people to be allowed to support anyone they think is relevant and valid, on the other I think it's quite clear how noxious the fervour and blind faith for a random celebrity accused whose best defense may be that he is either mentally ill or extremely reckless and thoughtless.

These supporters may even effect the case (or they wish too) because if you look on social platforms they have seemed to swarm on prosecution witnesses and troll them until they have to close accounts or lockdown for privacy. Perhaps they have done even worse, who knows?

In South Africa there seems to be a great difficulty in bringing witnesses forward in court for fear of retaliation, real or imagined. I think many people know Pistorius' frenzied fan club could go beyond the realms of rational behaviour...

More daunting is that Pistorius larger family is exceptionally weathly and connected. He/they even had British public relations giant Stuart Higgins fly out and reportedly he helped set out some strategy with the local public relations firm Vuma before they took over. These could be seen as significant odds against independent witnesses.

About Pistorius autobiography, I think anyone who has read this book before the trial is probably a fan. Now, after seeing the disturbing online activities of some of Pistorius fan club, I start to wonder about their stability!

Most relevant part of this article about the writing of the autobiography, is that ghost writer himself said: 'Have we unwittingly cultivated a monster?'
That's a deeply scary thought from someone who intimately researched and recorded Pistorius' 'printable' character and deeds.

.

The points you have made are deeply significant and remind us of how the Steenkamp family, at the outset, must have felt that they were at a great disadvantage in terms of justice for their daughter.
Plus it's very helpful for us to imagine how we would think if we had to give evidence against a beloved national hero. ( In the UK I suppose that would be Beckham.)
But still, it just HAD to be televised didn't it, not for our vicarious pleasure but because justice and fairness would have to be SEEN to prevail.
Here's hoping.

But they were probably telling the truth - so didn't have to think of a defence.

OMG! This video is of a man that the next day killed 7 people. If you like just skip to 4:15 - 5 something. The guy had been building up a hatred for women and his shortcomings for many years and decided to take action, that is the parallel that I see to OP. Many will disagree, but the video and what he did are equally as disturbing and warped as what OP did to Reeva that night - being held captive and then executed in a closet.

LiveLeak.com - Six Dead in Isla Vista Shootings - Alleged Killers Video Threat

BTW his mother and father are wealthy Hollywood entertainment people.

But they were probably telling the truth - so didn't have to think of a defence.

To this point I would just like to add another related one.

ie. I guess that in the early hours of 14Th Feb it would be relatively easy for OP to come up with the" I thought I'd shot an intruder" line simply because he has probably had a conversation about this scenario with others before.

Friends and exes who had stayed over with him in the past and seen his paranoid, gun-ready reactions to bumps in the night would surely have half-jokingly commented/warned him - "be careful Oscar you're going to end up killing someone like that." If I 'm not wildly off the mark I'd guess he probably laughed in response. (It was Taylor and then a male friend he house- shared with- forgotten his name.)

Obviously post bail statement and disclosure of PT case, he had to start weaving in and out of their evidence and time-line, but prior to that it must have sounded, to him, quite plausible during those 15 minutes or so before Baba & Standers came.

K.T.,
The thing that I can't figure out is how in the world is OP smarter than those that post all kinds of garbage on social media sites? If we think about it, OP knew better than to text things that would harm his reputation. He knew that there would be a paper trail of it, so he preferred to talk in person or on the phone. Even if someone deletes something that they had posted, even if it was a tweet, on Facebook, whatever, someone out there saw it. How does the person that then deleted it not understand that the person, people that saw it could have taken a screenshot of it? It's as if they don't understand that what they say and do can have an effect on their personal/professional lives. I have always told my daughters to never post/say anything that they would not want the world to know. If they do post/say something, forget about deleting it, it's better to own their words once they are out there.

MOO

Thanks for the video clip Viper.

"I don't why you girls aren't attracted to me"...

Watched the whole clip. God, it plays out like a trailer to a horror film. What a freak! He doesn't think there's a problem with himself at all? It's the girls who are at fault for not being drawn to his 'superiority'?? He blames the girls for ruining his life? What?! Blame game. Hmmm.

Viper, do you have a name for this freak?

The hilarious posters at LiveLeak have affectionately nicknamed him: Psycho Virgin Elliot Rodger

About that video of Elliot Rodger:

Absolutely chilling.

It's grimly interesting, hearing similarities in his video to research about serial killers and that other subset, men who commit crimes against women:

- entitlement
- fixed ideas of masculinity/gender roles and hierarchy
- strong religious affiliation, perceived god complex
- arrogance in power dynamics, fixation with what is 'owed' societally
- detachment in emotions
- narcissism
- displaced blame

Elliot Rodger seems to have been the son of a UK film director. He was having psychiatric treatment and it is said his parents notified the police when he uploaded worrying videos to You Tube in the last few days.

This has spun into something way off base. The discussion is not regarding his emotions throughout a timeline. The discussion is OP's explanation for not screaming at the moment he ripped off the door panel and saw he riddled his girlfriend's body with bullets powerful enough to stop an elephant.

Nel: What was the purpose of screaming while you were breaking the door down?

OP: I was in a panic.

Nel: But when you found Reeva, you didn't scream then.

OP: I didn't know what the purpose of screaming would be then. I was overcome with sadness.

That's it. That statement. That emotion, at that moment.

That's the weirdest thing to say It's like he saw what he'd done and thought - I should feel sad now. Weird weird weird.

Mind you I don't believe anything he says.

Got to throw this in because it strikes a chord and I forgot to add it to earlier post:

2011 quote from Gianni Merlo (Bladerunner writer) interview on corruption in sports, which is his main campaign as an athletics specialist:

What is your personal recommendation on how to fight against and solve the problem of corruption in sports?

"It is necessary to gain and spread more knowledge because many people underestimate the danger. Sometimes they think the misbehaviour of a player is a small “sin” and this is a big mistake, because it opens the door to a bigger fraud."

Admin Note:

Okay guys, I'm going to close this thread for just a few minutes to review. The reason for this is because I need a chance to remove inappropriate posts in order to stop the quoting & potential responses.

Promise to reopen shortly. Thanks in advance for your patience.

I aware that many of you fully understand this, but it appears a reminder is needed anyway:

The ONLY victim here is Reeva Steenkamp. No matter anyone's view on OP's guilt or innocence, Reeva tragically died an unnecessary horribly violent death and her family & friends are suffering greatly.

Also, to those that are awaiting responses to PMs you've sent, I sincerely apologize for the delay in responding. My offline life has been insanely busy this week and I have not a minute to be online except to read alerts and PMs briefly from my phone. Promise to reply to all as soon as I am able. Again, thanks for your patience. One thing at a time and the first thing on the agenda is restoring civility in this thread.

In the mean time, everybody take a deep breath. ahhhh ohmmm :)
