Kansas teen won't apologize to governor's office for Twitter post

  • #241
Wow way to milk every last drop out of this story. I thought "kids just talked this way" and "it's just a word" and "freedom of speech was at stake" etc etc etc. All the excuses she made are coming back to bite her in the butt. Should we make those kids take down the twitters? Should we make them apologize? Hmm. I agree that these kids are wrong, but she's the exact same kind of person only using different words.

So she should be bullied for saying the gov sucks???

That's twisted logic.

Nope that's a twisted interpretation.

Also if you read more into this instead of just believing whatever "headline" is attached to the article, you'd see that a handful of people are being vile. Most of her peers just are giving her the cold shoulder because they don't like the attention that she brought to their school.

So now ignoring someone because you don't like their behavior is bullying them. Gotta love the way some people keep trying to redefine what words mean. :)

And um, she's the one who is telling everyone she's being bullied. So I'm not sure what to believe considering she's an admitted liar.

Also I'm curious. I'd like to see the actual tweet where she's called a **re. Because being called an "attention wh***" and " wh***" are two completely different things. Still crude and vulgar but she might be twisting the truth.

I read the article. Not just the headline.

She is most definitely being cyber bullied. An example is in the ARTICLE.

How could she lie about that. It's printed word for word from the bully's account.

A handful of cyber bullies is a handful too much.

A teen saying a publicly elected official sucks and teens bullying another teen via twitter is worlds apart.

Ms Sullivan was quite clear in her tweet that her intention was to be "mean" to the Governor. Perhaps she doesn't see him as a real person?

I think she is now reaping the consequences of her behaviour. Not so much fun being on the other side of a vulgar tweet, is it Ms. Sullivan?

She also lied about being forced to write an apology. She admitted she lied about that as well. Didn't stop thousands of people from running with the statement that she was ORDERED to write it or TOLD to write it.

Observers across the nation have voiced their opinions on the situation after it was reported that a staffer from Governor Sam Brownback’s office contacted Youth in Government officials who contacted Krawitz about the tweet in emails. Many sources also stated that Krawitz insisted upon an apology letter, a fact that Emma claims was fabricated.

According to Emma, Krawitz told her about the consequences of her tweet and told her about who would have to face the public on the issue. He suggested a letter of apology, but never required one. Sullivan thinks the sources that believed the letter was mandatory simply misunderstood her previous statements.

Interesting article.

At the bottom you can see a video of the students "bullying" Emma. It looks to me that they are supporting their school and principal and not at all like they are doing anything mean to her. Seems like she wants to make it all about herself, that narcissism. And if that's how she's behaving I can understand their reaction to some degree.

If we've finished with the First Amendment issues, maybe we can talk about the culture of narcissism we're engendering where people think their every thought is so precious it must be tweeted instantly and can't wait until the end of the movie, play, church service or political speech. Whatever happened to listening? To reflection?

Um no it's not printed word for word. It has his comment and the.......Wh***. That could mean they cut out something. Like if he called her an "attention who**" it's still vulgar but not the same thing at all.

I'm trying to find the actual post but I can't because the page where they linked says "page not found" I'd like to see the actual tweet.

Perhaps some research into cyber bullying?

She did not bully the governor.
She, however, is being bullied.

For example:

If I jump on my twitter and post:
"Nova sucks" on my page that has 65 followers...
That's not really bullying.
(just an example Nova-using you because you are a good sport)

However, if I create a hashtag about Nova and I say he's a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 :floorlaugh: and others join me and say Nova should be forced to go to a different school, he's a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, he's stupid....
That is 100% cyber bullying.

There is a HUGE difference.

She does not deserve to be cyber bullied because she thinks the gov sucks.

Mod note:

Cut out the petty back and forth thinly veiled, snide and snarky bickering on this thread NOW.

Every poster is responsible for their own posts and words.

FINAL WARNING.

Fantastic. Here's some background on media hype. Any time you see someone make a claim you need to do your own research into it to find out if it is true. Otherwise you pass on gossip and not facts. This entire thread and thousands of people were under the impression that the girl was TOLD OR FORCED to write an apology. This is based on the words of her sister. They didn't do their homework and so instead spread a lie around that turned this discussion into something it wasn't.

It had nothing to do with freedom of speech and everything to do with the principal trying to create a "teachable moment for her."

Also if you read her statement she says she was called to the principal after she returned from the trip. So to him, he's getting a call about disrespectful behavior of one of the students on a school trip so he talked to her about it.

That's all that happened.

She lied about it and now she's backtracking and saying that "everyone else got confused" but she and her sister are the ones who went to the press with the story. So it was based on what they said.

She's lied twice and exaggerated so I'd like to see the actual twitter posts. If they are there it should be easy to find.

I'm just waiting to see evidence before I react.

So why did the governors office apologize and say they over reacted?
:waitasec:

  • #252
Um I think I said about four pages back, because of all the idiots dragging it into the media and trying to turn it into a Freedom of Speech issue when it had absolutely nothing to do with it.

He had no choice basically because most people just believe whatever a headline says and don't take any time to actually look into the story.

The Governor also wasn't involved in any of it, but that didn't stop the headlines that he was "bullying" a high school student. I don't see anything he did to her at all. And his staff didn't contact her at all, they contacted the school. So that's not true either.

It's very simple to see what happened here. IMO. Media Hype and uneducated people have long made great stories in the news. :)

He said they overreacted.

I would not apologize for something I did not do.

So they didn't really overreact? They just said they did and apologized for it. Seems the teen is not the only one who lied.

What uneducated people?

  • #255
Nope. That's my opinion why he apologized. He may have felt that his staff overreacted to the student's tweet in the first place by going to the school at all. So he didn't lie.

The only liars in this story are Emma and her sister.

  • #256
So they overreacted.

That's the whole point from the beginning.

This public office overreacted to a tweet from a high school senior.

It should have never happened.

(above bbm)

From personal experience:

I have apologized even when I have been an "innocent" party.
For me, it's part of being a Christian, and seeking to keep the peace. Sometimes it's just being a bigger person. Sometimes it's being "Mom" to an adult child, and knowing that some battles aren't worth it.

I'm not saying the governor or any of his staff are Christians (I don't know), just commenting that, at times, apologizing (even when you're not wrong) is the best solution.

Nice post oh_gal.

I can't seem to find any real evidence of the twitter posts. Still looking to see if I can.
