That speaks more to the plastic surgery lobby trying to give itself work, if you ask me. And I found it rather odd that one of the pyschs they always interview for gender reassignment docs is a transgender his/herself and seems to have a history of rubber stamping the proceedures. Personally, as a natural born woman, I find the idea of guys walking around in woman suits insulting. Esepcially when they deciode to lecture me on what it "means" to be a woman. I always tell them, come back after you've had an abortion or given birth or endured a really bad period or had to fend off a man intent on raping you with a woman's weaker upper body strength and tell me what I already know.peace9274 said:I'm a psych nurse and in the past we saw a lot of men who were wishing to obtain a sex change. Two yrs ago, while doing more research, and also from a friend of mine, I learned that one is no longer required to seek psychiatric treatment in order to be transgendered. I pretty sure they do still have to live and dress as a female for a year, though.
Unless you're someone genuinely born with two sets and the docs tossed a coin with your parents, I consider the whole "gender reassignment" movement a bogus boondoggle bolstered by plastic surgerons desperate for a steady stream of revenue. I can be convinced I was meant to be born black or asian or whatever, and have all kinds of surgery to make me look like I'm from a different ethnnic group, but it still doesn't make me a member of that group or any claim to their expereince. As it is, turns out the vast majority of male-to-females never go the whole way and become true post-ops, so I have to wonder what the point of the whole exercise truly is.
