Whether or not her probation officer would be interested or not is irrelevant; none of her business. As it is none of the taxpayers of Florida's business. It is between Casey Anthony and the IRS, period.

The OP asked if "we" would see the headlines. "We" have no right to know Casey Anthony's dealing with the IRS.

But it became public knowledge didn't it? We don't have the right to see her filings with her SS # but certainly if she owes the government money we have a right to know otherwise we would not hear about it on the news. And it's common to see articles in the news about people who owe IRS money. KC was not someone special as far as the IRS is concerned. She had a certain length of time to respond regarding how she plans to pay her bill. That information is private. But if she still owes money I don't think that is private information. jmo

Last line of article says

If ABC paid Casey Anthony directly, she could owe taxes on that payment.

This is the last I heard about KC and the IRS.

I found the actual paperwork on the lien if anyone is interested.

There is nothing about that document that leads me to believe it has been paid. This woman is really in quite the predicament when I think about it. Having liens from the Feds and the State isn't exactly the same thing as hiding out from Master Card or letting your mortgage slip....

Just a note, there are no state taxes in Florida. I have no idea how her defense was subsidized. I would guess through the property taxes paid to the state.

The court systems are funded by property foreclosure fees. Because of the hold on so many foreclosures, the courts are having to make do with much less cash.

FLORIDA does not have a state tax. We have personal property taxes, and the best of my knowledge, Casey Anthony does not/ did not own any property. So, she would have had NO Florida state taxes to pay.

Except for sales tax. 6% with discretionary taxes decided per county. Since she doesn't like to spend her own money she wouldn't be paying that either. :floorlaugh:

I agree - as a person who pays bills, and stays within the lines - but really, FCA never has, so I (respectfully, and regretfully) submit that this "little" inconvenience will have zero effect - and sadly, I think you can apply this principle across the entire A family

From what I've read she can't just walk away from these debts thru bankruptcy. I guess she could change her identity and flee to another country. But I bet if she did, she would be caught and have her butt shipped back here to the US. IMO.

On the form it says the Last Date for Refiling is 12/01/2020 so does this mean she still has about nine years now to get this settled?
If so, there's no sense worrying about it now. Some of us may not even be able to remember who FCA is by then.

Most likely not. The IRS wouldn't announce it, it's private business. I am sure neither Casey nor the DT would announce it due to the uproar from the Casey haters who would (without right) demand to know where the funds came from.

Just imagine the pages and pages of supposition and hypothesising here alone if it was announced Casey had paid off her debts?

I'm sure if she did pay it off the DT would want to keep it on the down low because then the rest of the people she owes money to would come calling!

Not that I know of! Good point because that bill certainly isn't being appealed - don't know if it can be!

She can try but criminal legal fees are not tax deductable. The form is made out in her name and JB's law firm address. KC was given the money so KC is responsible to pay the taxes. So someone should have paid those taxes before spending all the money. That's a pretty hefty bill for someone to have to pay and you know KC won't pay it. jmo

From what I could find it looks as if the lien is released by the IRS after 10 years if they do not file it again.

"Usually 10 years after a tax is assessed, a lien releases automatically if we have not filed it again. If we knowingly or negligently do not release a Notice of Federal Tax Lien when it should be released, you may sue the federal government, but not IRS employees, for damages."

Irrelevant. Someone, not the general Florida resident public, would be paying the sales tax for her on anything she purchased, or was purchased for her. No one is involuntarily paying her sales tax for.

This went to JB's office. IMO he should have been the one to see the taxes were paid. He is her atty and she was in jail. The taxes first and then his fee, but we all know how he rolls.
I understand how you feel. But the IRS is pretty cruel about collecting taxes. They go after the person who owes the taxes not their lawyers or tax preparers. That goes for everyone, not just those in jail or homeless or whatever. I guess its between JB and KC about who should have paid what and when?

Another thing I noticed on the form is that it says -

We have made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid. Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer.....

And that would mean anything she earned for at least the next nine years could be taken by the IRS. Interest and penalties run pretty high unless you get one of those lawyers that advertise on TV showing how their clients pay next to nothing on each dollar used.

We probably talked back when this first came out that JB probably ignored the dun notices received at his office since his client was sure to be locked up for a very long time. He probably told her not to worry about it. Who was to ever guess what would end up happening?

I think the point was missed. Since Casey STEALS other peoples' money (Amy H, her parents, her grandfathers, who knows who else she stole from) to buy things for herself, those others involuntarily paid the sales tax FOR her since they also involuntarily paid for her purchases.

Casey did not have her own money, she STOLE the money or checks, so she never paid sales tax out of her own money since she never had her own money since she did not work.

IMO, MOO, etc.
