KFC employee allegedly asks little girl to leave Jackson restaurant

The Victoria's Victories FB and their go fund me account both went *poof*

Shame on ANYONE for using a child in this way! :( It makes me sick.

I wonder what happens now. I sure hope an investigation happens. It doesn't appear to me, that these people should be responsible for this child. First pit bulls attack her, now this. This little girl needs someone to protect her!

Ummhmmm. Yeah, I'm thinking the family's attorney may have "suggested" this. Major damage control needed on the part of the family and their attorney. Taking down the donation site ensures there will be no further donations based on the fraud/ hoax claims.

I'm thinking some kind of felony fraud charges are being looked at-- $ in excess of $100K. Maybe other charges, too. I hope so.

This was a particularly vile, manipulative, exploitative set of lies. Horrible, nasty woman, IMO. I hope public sentiment rapidly turns to support for the KFC employees, and this woman is shunned by her whole community. I hope DCF takes measures to remove the child from her care, and makes sure she has no access to her.

I am glad to see the hoax story hit the AP newswire. It's up on MSN now as a top featured story. The AP version left out a lot of pretty pertinent details, such as the store the family claimed to be at has been closed for months/ years, and the store receipts for both stores show no sales that match what Grannie says she ordered. Nor were anyone even close to matching their descriptions seen on any surveillance cameras at either store.

Ah-- an update on the clarion story:

Family attorney disputes KFC findings (update)

"It is unfortunate that Victoria and her family are being vilified on what appears to be the result of an inconclusive investigation conducted by KFC and/or its agents that implies Victoria's story is a "hoax," said William Kellums of Jackson, the attorney for the family of Victoria Wilcher. "It is deeply disappointing that other parties have taken opportunity to attack Victoria through social and news media outlets.

Ummmm...Earth to Attorney Kellums....people are upset with the grandmother and aunt, NOT the little girl. Sheesh.

Agreed!
Are there any responsible adults who can care for this sweet child????? because clearly the grandparents aren't hitting on chit. imo

Wonder if the scammers attorney is working pro bono or discount fees being paid from funds collected through donations.

Trying to spin damage control when the client was bold face lying. Knowing they have that much money, I doubt free service. Jmo

http://globalnews.ca/news/1412345/viral-story-of-scarred-girl-kicked-out-of-kfc-is-a-hoax-report/

But on Monday, the Laurel Leader-Call reported surveillance videos show no one matching Wilcher’s description was in the store at the time her grandmother claimed.

The newspaper’s source also alleged no orders matching what Mullins claimed to have purchased were recorded on the cash registers.

Late Monday night, the family posted a message on the Victoria’s Victories Facebook page denying the accusation.

“I promise it’s not a hoax, I never thought any of this would blow up the way it has. The article circling the web calling this a hoax is untrue,” reads the post. “The article itself say the investigation is not complete. It is not over until KFC releases a statement.”

KFC said last week it hired “a third-party consultant to conduct an independent investigation to help us resolve the matter.”

Sense she used Facebook to start this lie Grandma should a write a letter of apology and place it on kfc Facebook page. Jmo

Grandma needs to be in jail! A lot of people (from what I am reading) are only concerned about the money they donated FOR Victoria. From what I am reading, they don't want their money back (regular people) because they want Victoria to have it. However, I still do believe the account should be frozen and all monies kept in that account should only be for Victoria and her care or even College. Poor baby, at only 3-years-old needs an a lawyer, IMO.

ETA: Grandma needs to do a lot more than apologize in my opinion. I won't blame employee's for suing her. The ones who were assaulted and verbally threatened by her lies.
Does anyone know if Grandma has custody of Victoria? Where are her parents?? DCF needs to intervene immediately, IMO.

Apparently there is a reason Grannie has custody... and now she messed up -- she might love Victoria & treat her well outside of the KFC debacle, who knows? However, in the best interests of Victoria, she definitely needs her own attorney, a trust fund, and a trustee outside of THIS family to make the financial decisions & dole out the cash.

From your link, redheadedgal......thanks for posting it!:

"Family members and their attorney never said the Leader-Call story that called their claims a hoax was wrong, but instead said the focus should be on helping Victoria."

" KFC officials pledged to donate $30,000 to the family when they learned their claim about what happened in Jackson last month. They said the family could keep the money regardless of what their investigation turned up. But their investigation, after viewing hours of surveillance video from multiple KFC locations, found no evidence that showed Victoria and her grandmother, Kelly Mullins, were asked to leave one of their restaurants."

I give KFC a lot of credit for how they've handled this mess.

I don't. I think the way they handled it is super foolish and just promotes this type of scam. If they wanted to donate money to the child, they should have completed their investigation first, showed that it was a hoax, and pressed charges against the grandmother while then offering to donate money in some organized and protected way strictly for the medical expenses she incurred MAYBE.

Paying $30k up front with zero proof of an obviously bogus story is major foolishness to my mind.

eta: and the stated reason should have been because they felt charitable toward the girl for having such low life family members who are responsible for her injuries in the first place and don't have enough character not to scam on it. The charitable giving is legitimate to that extent, imo.

I agree that it was foolish, but the way the internet picked it up... I think they did panic. I do credit them for not taking the 30k back. They can't press charges and give the baby money at the same time though and KFC is being a class act. They won't punish the baby. I just hope that DCF or someone who is looking out for her best interest is there now and that money will be used for her care. I also hope that the surgeons who offered her help don't deny her. But, I do think that all monies donated by every day people should be returned to them at this time.

From what I am reading... people that did donate are upset. They don't want to deny Victoria, but they want to make sure their donations are going to HER. That is why I believe the best thing... at this moment is to freeze the account/s.

I don't believe this incident happened.

(I mean I really do not think this happened.)

Kudos to you and everyone else who had the right gut instinct about this case from the get go.

Thanks for the link:

I find it very impressive that KFC is still contributing towards the little girl's medical treatment.

With all of the other funds that have been raised -- zowie -- hope those folks can get their money back.

How about charges of mischief for gramma /?

How about charges of fraud?

:banghead::tantrum::jail:

real family values...................
grandpa has dogs that almost kill her
and her grandma lies and uses her for money.

It almost seems like this baby doesn't stand a chance.

I wish there was a way to force the family to put the $$ they raised into a trust for this poor little girl. She's going to need all of the help she can get.

Oh, there is. The police can freeze the account easily and confiscate it.

I agree. Donating money in such a situation sounds like rewarding bad behavior to me.

Grandma doesn't have custody. Parents do.
People who donated money under false pretenses should be able to get their money back.
Which I presume is going to be hard with both facebook and go fund me pages closed.
I would also look into whether their insurance covered whatever it is they claimed it didn't cover. Considering that insurance company that supposedly didn't cover certain things was not named.
We know what this child has insurance. Also plastic surgeon showed up offering free services after KCF being accused.
So what medical bills does this child actually have for KFC to donate 30 K toward medical bills?
Has KFC actually looked into whether she has 30 K of medical bills?

No personal attack intended...just wanted to comment on the line I bolded in your sentence....by her actions, what she is giving that child is a perfect example of how to cheat, manipulate, and beat the system. I am always amazed when I see the double standards some people employ in their own lives ("yeah, I defrauded thousands of people, but I treat my family well...!"
(So I'm not so bad, right?) I know...that probably makes me sound terribly judgmental. It is what it is, I guess.
