Kirstie Alley has died at 71

Is 71 young to die from cancer? I am genuinely asking, as I haven't had much experience with it (both my parents got it in their 50s but luckily are cancer-free today)
Tbh re-reading what I wrote, it didn't make much sense. Poor choice of words, as it sounded sudden I should've said too soon.

Cancer takes people of all ages.

I saw Kirstie in person once many years ago. She has or had family in Wichita, KS. I was there to visit my Mom and we went to a restaurant and there she was. Trivia: Her Mom was killed by a drunk driver in Wichita, KS many, many years ago.

RIP Kirstie

How sad :(

Kirstie Alley was iconic! She was fierce and sassy. I'd forgotten she was in Star Trek Wrath Of Khan.

Her IMDB says she was working on a project. She was so young to die from cancer. Thoughts and condolences to her family.

Infants die from cancers, it takes all ages.

71 is young by todays standards but it isn’t really.

She saw her children grown, was a grandmother.

A very talented actress back in the day.

RIP Kristie

Oh no worries! I wasn't meaning to pick apart your reply, I was genuinely curious and your response made me think. I appreciate you responding, and cancer really doesn't discriminate, does it? No matter what age, it's always too soon.

Sending love to you, all this cancer talk has me feeling like I need to make sure to send extra love out in the world.

WASHINGTON — Kirstie Alley, best known for her role as Rebecca Howe in "Cheers," has died at age 71 from a "recently discovered" cancer.
Alley's children, True and Lillie Parker, confirmed the "Cheers" star's death in a Twitter post on Monday night.

"We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered," the statement read. "As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother."

O/T but posting about Kristie, I just learned that William Hurt died in March -- they were the same age, 71.

Hurt had terminal prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones. He died from complications of the disease at his home in Portland, Oregon, on March 13, 2022, aged 71.

Emmy-winning actor Kirstie Alley, known for her role in the sitcom “Cheers,” the “Look Who’s Talking” films and other roles, has died of cancer, her family said in a statement Monday. She was 71.

The illness was only recently discovered, her family said.

"She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead," the statement said. "As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother."

Alley joined the cast of "Cheers" in 1987 as bar manager Rebecca Howe and left in 1993. She also played Veronica Chase in the television series “Veronica’s Closet,” which ran from 1997 to 2000...

When I think of cancer that is quick is pancreatic cancer.
Albeit pancreatic cancer isn’t quick, it just seems that way because by the time it’s diagnosed, which is when the symptoms show, is stage stage 4. And for the most part people at this stage have about 3 months, if not shorter.
My mother died of pancreatic cancer.

moo ymmv
Mine too.She died within 2 days of finding out.
(ETA: Fixing my mangled reply!)

Kirstie was a very heavy, long-term smoker. I remember reading she would have to send her clothes out to the cleaners once a month to get the smell out of them.

My guess would be an aggressive lung cancer.
My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in early June of 1970. He died in early August just weeks before his 44th birthday :(

Hi Everyone,
Forgive me for interrupting but this is important. Please do not post questions about this post on this thread. Go to THIS THREAD to ask questions.

DID YOU KNOW BY THE END OF THE DAY OUR MODS WILL HAVE HANDLED HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF ALERTS? YOU WOULD NOT KNOW THIS BECAUSE THAT IS HOW GOOD THE MODS ARE AT THEIR JOBS.

One of the many things I love about Websleuths is we can come on here, discuss true crime, and not have to deal with all the stupid drama and baloney we have to deal with on other platforms. Do you know why? It is the hard work of our wonderful volunteer moderators.

Because of these incredible moderators, you don't see the following, the trolls that constantly try and disrupt. You don't see the newbies who don't know the rules and post a bunch of unproven rumors in cases, You don't see the mean people insulting your posts, you don't see the stupid threats angry people post, and guess what? I could go on and on. In other words, the mods make your experience the best you can find when it comes to discussing true crime.

If you could donate even one dollar that would be great. If half the people that come to Websleuths today donated one dollar we would be able to give the mods a wonderful bonus for all their hard work.

One hundred percent of the money raised goes to the moderators.

If you cannot donate we completely understand. If you could please post a word of thanks to our mods on THIS THREAD that would be wonderful.

sad news to see first thing. Even more sad reading your stories and tidbits about cancer, suffering, loss... when I was 20, 71 seemed old, but now... ugh, just too soon. Peace to her family and those who loved Kirstie. Anyone who loved animals they way she did is pretty special in my book.

She was a shrill for Scientology and was quite nasty towards those who spoke out about the abuses of COS. As an OT8, she spent her last years auditing which she believed were body thetans that were attached to her body. She would have been taught, and believed, that she drew them in. Her beliefs would also have her hovering right now over a maternity wing scoping out a body of a newborn to inhabit. How Kirstie Alley Lost Herself in Scientology

ETA: By a twist of fate she died on the 27th anniversary of Lisa McPherson's death.
