At first I wasn't sure if this was heading towards self harm or just being on the run.

A reply to comments on the Sedgwick Co Sheriff's post are interesting.

His taking all of his weapons and running off could support either scenario. If he ran off with all of his liquid assets however, that would indicate (to me at least) a plan to hide out/continue running vs self-harm. Someone planning to commit suicide wouldn't need to take a large amount of money with them.

Any official word on credit card activity or large withdrawals?

And would only need one gun and one bullet.

I double-checked the rules so I think this is okay to post, but please let me know if I need to delete.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s FB page updated and says they are no longer seeking the public’s assistance in searching because they have located DC, and he is outside of the U.S.

Edit to clarify: he is determined to be outside of the U.S. - doesn’t specifically say they have found him.

That is telling.

Wow. I wish I could skip out on work, hightail it to another country, then have that employer I skipped out on still continue paying me despite being accused of being a pedophile for the 2nd time. :rolleyes:o_O:mad:

I know that it has been possible to join the French Foreign Legion under an assumed name before, but according to the FL:s site applicants from non-Schengen countries have to show a passport now. I wonder if the FL checks it against arrest warrants: Administrative

Well with Wellington PD not issuing a warrant, the FL possibly checking that wouldn't matter I guess.

Anyone sleuth this guy?
Does he have a wife and/or family?

Have the prisons in Istanbul changed much since.....can't remember the name of the movie....but what a proper place for him to be.

Midnight Express?

Midnight Express?
Yes! That was harrowing. But quite a few years ago. But it was the first thing I thought of when I read he was headed to Turkey.

What the heck is he going to do in turkey?

ETA: Why are they not issuing a warrant for his arrest?

Man, Wichita has the best cops and the best CPS investigators! Sigh.

Hiring him at a LE agency most likely is a case of him being in the inner-circle of the "good-ole-boys club" or an effect of slim pickings in regards to high-quality LE applicants.

Sheriff Jeff Easter says Homeland Security was able to confirm that Deputy Derick Chandler flew to Istanbul.

KAKE-TV reports Chandler Chandler is implicated in an investigation in Wellington of a sex crime involving a 13-year-old.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff says he’s working to fire a deputy who went missing while under investigation.

Sheriff Jeff Easter of Sedgwick County said, “We are sworn to uphold the badge, not break the law. At this point, he has missed three shifts in a row. He’s been suspended without pay, and then we’ll start the process of termination at this point.”

I doubt he planned to stay in Turkey, if there was no warrant it's very possible he quickly got into Greece by car, and from there perhaps boat to Italy, depending on how familiar he is with European borders, and the Schengen Area. Even if there shouldn't be any border checkpoints, due to the European migrant crisis, there are border controls in several countries, for example Sweden. And he would still have to show his passport at hotels and similar places to stay. Schengen Area - Wikipedia
