Miranda Miller is now on the stand.
Prosecutor asks: Do you share responsibility in killing your son? Yes, she says.
Who killed Evan? She says Stephen Bodine.
She says her memory was clouded on the exact date he died, because she was on drugs like meth and cocaine.

Last time Carlo would’ve seen Evan is April 2017, when he pulled up to the house & tried to take Evan with him. She says Carlo saw Evan. Bodine was living at the house with Miranda and Evan.

The last time Carlo got to take Evan with him to spend the night was in Feb 2017. In March 2017, Carlo wanted to see his son. She got Evan out. That’s when Carlo saw a scab on Evan’s nose.

Feb 2017 she says she wanted to be a good mom and give her son a “father” figure. She says initially, Bodine’s relationship with her was good but then turned violent. She remembers him using a pen to her neck and threatened to kill her, and then threw her on plastic tubs.

She says the violence became regular.
She was once chocked to the point of passing out. His “favorite thing” was using his knuckles to hurt her.
She says Bodine suspected that she was with other men including Evan’s father.

She had a child with Bodine and miscarried the pregnancy. She said she was punched in the stomach twice and was dragged by her hair, while pregnant. She miscarried at the end of January.

“I loved him” and “he was my king” and said “he was my best friend” She said Bodine used drugs daily (meth, anti anxiety meds/numbing meds) She said he was “very agitated” using drugs

She said that after the miscarriage, Bodine started changing his attitude toward Evan (Evan couldn’t do anything right, according to Bodine)

As discipline, Bodine would send Evan to his room with his hands behind his back (something similar that was described by Bodine’s biological daughter earlier today). Evan would refuse to apologize to “Bo”....then made Evan change it to “daddy” or “sir”

She said Bodine would punch and kick Evan as part of discipline. There were cameras in the house and it would upload to the cloud. Once Evan died, she said she told people she went out of state but she never left.

Miranda reached a plea agreement with the state for her truthful testimony in this trial. She plans to enter this plea from first degree to second degree murder & other charges like kidnapping, child abuse. She agrees to prison for 25+ years.

Miranda says the more Evan got scared of Bodine, the more violent Bodine became with Evan (smacking and kicking him) March 2017, it escalated to more physical violence on Evan.

Due to the graphic nature of these photos, we are not going to show photos of Evan naked, with a leash around his neck with his hands tied behind his back.
She describes that this is punishment for not apologizing to Bodine.
She said violence gets worse.

“He has not earned the right to clothes” she said of Bodine’s punishment to Evan.
Evan would rather not eat or go to the restroom.

Miranda says she beat/spank Evan as well. She says the strength of her abuse to Evan would be “way less” than if Bodine would beat Evan

When Evan was going to the bathroom, Bodine hit him in the stomach.

The nose injury was just a remnant of all the bruising Evan suffered “He beat the crap out of him”

Bodine was upset that Miranda didn’t want to go to court for the PFA hearings. She was “done fighting” which upset Bodine. She wrote down significant events on her day planner. She wrote “Evan” on the May 18, 217, the day she thinks he was killed by Bodine.

Miranda was told by Bodine that you can use “bunch of salt” to make someone sick. Miranda thinks Evan was vomiting because Bodine did this. Evan couldn’t keep things down, inclusion pedialyte. Bodine insists that Evan is on his stomach. Evan was forced to eat 3 doughnuts.

Punishment was to make him stand since he didn’t sleep all night. Bodine “back handed” Evan. Evan hurt his face, slammed into the wall, then collapsed and started screaming.

She said Evan was screaming and then Bodine took him into the bathroom for a few minutes. When Bodine came out with Evan, she Evan was “lifeless” and his head was wet. Bodine told her to perform CPR...but Evan couldn’t breathe.

She said her drug use increased ten fold after Evan died.
She says the concrete structure was built by Bodine. She was the one who bought the concrete mixture at Lowe’s and ACE hardware.

“He killed my son and ruined my life” said Miranda after having to look again at Bodine, so that the record could reflect who she was talking about. She said she failed her son, Evan, for not protecting him.

Witness 8 is a WPD officer who reviewed hours of surveillance camera video from the house, Bodine and Miranda shared.

Jury sees video of Miranda naked and appears to look under the influence. Then you hear Bodine hit her and say “I’m trying to my best not to tie you up” and “muffle you”

Witness 9 is another #WPD officer Justin Rapp. He looked at surveillance video for two months.

He hears people in the house talk about the concrete structure in August 2017.

He viewed and listened to surveillance be video as well. He heard what sounded like a child being hurt in March 2017.

Witness 11 is another #WPD officer.

In August 19, 2017, there’s video where you can hear Miranda again hiding.

Witness 12 is called back and is #WPD Sgt Cory again.

There’s video of Evan being punished as he’s standing and being ridiculed by Bodine saying “You’re losing everything”. Family in the courtroom are emotional seeing this video.

Video from May 19 shows Miranda spanking Evan.

Jury will return tomorrow by 8:45am for Day 6 of the trial. We’re expecting state prosecutors to rest their case. We don’t know if the defense will call any witnesses.

I'm sitting here crying for Evan.... Definitely GUILTY!!! :(

I’m back in court this morning, covering more of Stephen Bodine’s murder and child abuse trial. Jurors starting the day watching more surveillance video taken inside of the rental house where 3-year-old Evan Brewer was tortured and killed.

So far in this video, there’s been shouting and chastising of Evan and threats to beat him because he didn’t do his morning routine right. Bodine and his mom expected him to get up and say “hello daddy” to Bodine before he used the bathroom.

You can hear Evan shouting on the video: “Hey! Are you going to open the door?” I believe he’s been put in his room. Bodine’s voice: “I’m f—king sick of your sh-t” and “I’m gonna keep coming.”

Here’s an example of how Bodine talked to Evan. It’s just audio. (Some explicit language.)

Amy Renee Leiker‏ @AmyReneeLeiker
Bodine to Evan in the video: “That attitude, Evan. It’s done. And if it’s not done, you’re done. ... I do love you. I do love your mom. I don’t want to hurt you. But you’re a little 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, man.”

More of Bodine to Evan on the video: “So if you think you’re smart and you’re outwitting me, you’re not. ... you ain’t foolin’ no one man.” “If your arm ain’t f—king broken... I don’t want to hear you cry.”

"Maybe we should put you in a bed of snakes, I don't know." "All you got to do is what you've been told." You can hear Evan's mom, Miranda Miller, on the video, too. Bodine at times asks her if she wants to hear Evan cry. She says "no" and "hell no."

All of these video clips that I'm tweeting about this morning are from March 27, 2017. It goes on and on. Bodine tells Evan, who is 3, he's beat up, that he has a behind so red and swollen that he won't be able to sit in a car for days. He calls him a sissy.

Sgt. Christian Cory, the lead homicide detective on Evan's death case, said they have video clips from every month since the cameras were set up. But there wasn't 24-hour surveillance.

Amy Renee Leiker‏ @AmyReneeLeiker
Cory says police found shadows of the clips in cellphone devices that led them to the clouds, where these videos were stored. Police didn't get the full clips until November 2017.

Police didn't share content of videos w/ public or Evan's family until April of this year - at Bodine's preliminary hearing.
