GUILTY KS - Evan Brewer, 3, Wichita, 6 July 2017

I wonder why the MISSING poster says the child was last seen on July 7th?

Isn't that the date someone [besides the two suspects] saw him alive?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/small-childs-body-found-encased-concrete-kansas-153917256.html

Neighbor Toni Freund told the Wichita Eagle that she saw police pull something concrete from the home. She and other neighbors said they had never seen a young child at the home.
Emphasis mine

My .02 it is one of the first signs that something is wrong when a child is never visible or slowly "disappears" from the public eye.
So sad.
What the heck with the concrete ? Was he deceased before being buried in it ??
:gaah:

Are there two threads about this case ?

Update : Yes, there are 2 threads... could the mods merge them ?
Saw his photo on the other thread.... what a little cutie ! :(

Trying to 'scrub' her FB. Comments are interesting.

As far as her arrest... LE usually have fairly good evidence before arresting people-- esp. the biological mother.
Wonder if the boyfriend turned on her ???
Poor little boy !

Trying to be supportive of LE... but they should have done a welfare check long before this. Imo. :(

Police: Remains found in Wichita home believed to be 3-year-old Evan Brewer

Lt. Gilmore provided the following timeline in the case:

March of 2017: Carlo Brewer, Evan's father, contacted DCF and Wichita police over his son's welfare. Evan was in the custody of his biological mother, 36-year-old Miranda Miller at a home on South Vine.
April: Allegation of abuse regarding Evan was reported to DCF, which investigated.
July 6: A protection from abuse was issued by the court to Carlo Brewer on behalf of his son. Wichita police continued to work with Carlo on locating his son.

"The Wichita Police Department and Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office repeatedly attempted formal service of the protection from order to the mother... Officers were unable to locate the mother or the child."

Information received was that Miller had left the state with the child, and police did not have a specific location.
Late August: Wichita police continued to investigate, learned Miller was aware of the PFA and that she was eluding being served the order.
August 30: Miranda Miller located, without Evan, in Wichita and was arrested for aggravated interference with child custody.
Stephen Bodine, 30, was living at the home on South Vine and arrested in connection to an aggravated assault case. He was also booked for aggravated interference with child custody.
September 2: Police were called to the home on South Vine, where the boy's remains were found. Miller and Bodine had been evicted from the home and the property owner called police after noticing an odor emitting from a concrete structure.

Also in the above article:

"Bodine was charged Tuesday afternoon with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property. He's accused of threatening Carlo Brewer with a hatchet and flattening a car tire on the night of August 11."

Why he was not arrested the night it happened, is lost on me now.

That's what is said on the MISSING poster. However since then, the attorney for the bio-father has said that they were asking for proof of life for the child for months before that date.

http://ksn.com/2017/09/04/questions-...missing-child/

“He was awarded sole custody in a protection from abuse order against the mother on July 6th, we had been requesting a change of custody or at least proof of life in proceedings as far back as February, March of this year,” said Johnston.

Wonder (sadly) if there's enough evidence for cod in that concrete ?

I am, too, and I know there's a lot behind the scenes we don't know about, but dang it just seems like it would have been possible to find him. Although I have to wonder when the boy was actually put into the concrete. I'm thinking it was long before a few days ago.

I am hoping the concrete helped preserve evidence since animal and insect activity will be limited if not nonexistent.

According to the link in my other post in the extra thread about Evan --- the neighbor said she didn't know a child lived there... (paraphrased)
So either he was dead before that , or was hidden.
Who knows what horrors those people might have put him through ?

Probably all to get back at the bio dad. :(

this is what I think happened. dude started interfering in custody matters between mom and dad. mom (prob at behest of new bed warmer) started refusing access, so dad filed. he was AWARDED the PFA in july... kid was not seen in July.

interference by new partner had my step kids mother served very quickly.

JMHO but the police department is going to be very, very careful to avoid the appearance of favoritism toward the former mayor & Gubernatorial candidate Grandpa Brewer. They are likely to avoid the appearance of funneling limited resources to this civil custody case.

Today we know that Evan lost, and the Brewer family lost, and we all lost.

:sigh:

Court documents: Family tried to get help for Evan Brewer before disappearance

A Protection from Abuse Order (PFA), filed by Carlo Brewer in May on behalf of his young son, says since July 2016, there were multiple reports of abuse made to the Department for Children and Families.

The PFA says Evan had been seen with injuries and wearing dirty clothes. It also says there were 911 calls about Evan being abused in the care of his mother, Miranda Miller.

Another document claims Miller's boyfriend, Stephen Bodine beat Miller and Evan so severely, they needed CPR.

I do too. I have just been sitting here trying to think of something to say and I have no words for this poor boy and his family.

Edited to add this comment is not directed to WS members, but the grandparents based on this comment from them. He was a former mayor, did he not have any "pull"? I do feel for them, this IS a tragedy...but, where were they before? Hello?!!! Help me understand how this happened.
Former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer 'devastated' by grandson's death

"We are devastated by the death of our sweet and loving grandson, Evan. We can not begin to make sense of this tragedy but are thankful the suspects are in custody. We request prayers and privacy for our family during this difficult time and while the police continue their investigation."

This completely breaks my heart. This could have been my grandson. My grandsons Mommy started dating a very possessive and abuse guy. She had no clue he was like that. He cut her off from her family and friends. He cut off my grandsons visitation with my son, abused both my grandson and his Mommy. The last time, he beat her so bad that she ended up in critical care. If one of his friends hadn't happened by that night, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have killed them. No one had any idea what was going on, not even his friends. He is now in prison and my grandson luckily is a very healthy and happy kid who sees his Daddy very often now. We had a happy ending. This poor little angel did not.

So sorry your family went through this! But so happy you can hug them! Prayers and love to you!
I really hope this dad can find peace[emoji20] divorce and custody battles can be an ugly thing!
