Edited to add this comment is not directed to WS members, but the grandparents based on this comment from them. He was a former mayor, did he not have any "pull"? I do feel for them, this IS a tragedy...but, where were they before? Hello?!!! Help me understand how this happened.

Again, I don't understand (imagine that) but there is a dead child and politics should have nothing to do with this...but what what did you mean? Totally NO disrespect towards your comment, but can you explain your thoughts?
JMHO but the police department is going to be very, very careful to avoid the appearance of favoritism toward the former mayor & Gubernatorial candidate Grandpa Brewer. They are likely to avoid the appearance of funneling limited resources to this civil custody case.

Today we know that Evan lost, and the Brewer family lost, and we all lost.

:sigh:

This story is sounding all too depressingly familiar. When are these stupid meth moms going to start putting their kids before crazy drugs and bad men?

Bella, killed and kept in the fridge.
Chance, killed and left to rot in his cot.
Now Evan, killed and entombed in concrete, to add to the ever growing list of identikit child murders.

:sigh:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/docs-family-feared-boy-found-dead-in-concrete-was-being-abused/

The father's petition for a protection from abuse order on behalf of the boy details multiple reports of abuse dating back more than a year made to the Kansas Department for Children and Families. It cites four complaints dating as far back as July 2016 and as recently as April. One allegation references an injury to his nose and contends the boy was "filthy and without appropriate clothing."

One witness statement cited in the PFA alleges the boy had been beaten "to the point of death" while in the mother's care.

The document says a mutual friend of the boy's parents informed the father in May that the mother was planning to move to Texas with the boy, even though she had not given the father any notification of those plans.

Miller began refusing the father's parenting time after a weeklong visitation that ended Feb. 13. Brewer wrote in his petition that he spoke to the mother after that visit because he was concerned Evan's behavior was aggressive to other children and that boy was describing abuse. Brewer said he was not allowed visitation with his son after that discussion.

There also were protection orders filed against Bodine.

The final protection from abuse order that was entered on July 7 noted that the mother's whereabouts were unknown and that she was believed to have absconded with the child and may be out of state.

No child deserves to have drugs / sex / mom's feelings put over their well-being. Why do some women not possess the maternal instincts to protect and love their beautiful little miracles?

It is absolutely heartbreaking to even imagine that 2 people could cover an innocent baby in wet cement and let it form a tomb around him---and then they could live in that house, and post on FB and go to the store, and talk to friends, and continue to deny that the child is even missing....

I can't even understand the amount of evil that needs to exist for them to do this....:burn:

A protection order named his mother and her boyfriend:
The boy's father, Carlo Brewer, contacted state officials and local police over the welfare of his son, who at the time was living with his mother and her boyfriend.
Last week, Miranda Miller was arrested on suspicion of aggravated interference with parental custody, and her 40-year-old boyfriend, Stephen Bodine, was arrested on suspicion of an aggravated assault charge. No one has been charged in connection with the boy's death.

Court documents: Family tried to get help for Evan Brewer before disappearance

A Protection from Abuse Order (PFA), filed by Carlo Brewer in May on behalf of his young son, says since July 2016, there were multiple reports of abuse made to the Department for Children and Families.

The PFA says Evan had been seen with injuries and wearing dirty clothes. It also says there were 911 calls about Evan being abused in the care of his mother, Miranda Miller.

Another document claims Miller's boyfriend, Stephen Bodine beat Miller and Evan so severely, they needed CPR.

It occurs to me that IF a paternal grandfather (granted, he has 12 other grandchildren besides Evan) is politically connected after being a Mayor for all those many years, and THEN runs for Governor now in 2017, certainly he knows the various depts and police and people where to get help for his grandson?

I just don't get it, how this child was somehow, slipping through the Social Services, etc. :( Now it's too damned late for him.

We don't know who murdered little Evan, even if it is him in the concrete and its verified to be. If by chance his mother knows something, I think she has to be quite sick and perhaps even suffered from the battered woman syndrome to have allowed such a thing to occur if knowing about it.

Lisa Steinberg of New York was adopted by Hedda Nussbaum who was charged with murder along with her live in lover aka husband Joel Steinberg and together they raised Lisa who Joel (as a lawyer) gained custody from her mother who was not told that he would be raising Lisa either. The mother believed he (Steinberg the lawyer) would give Lisa over to be cared for by Catholic services. Lisa ended up dead at age 6.

Hedda had been beaten repeatedly by Joel. It was a terrible case that made headlines long ago.
The first time I ever heard of "Battered woman syndrome". Hedda Nussbaum served prison time for this death just as he did, apparently the jury didn't buy it. When she was released she had multiple plastic surgeries to repair the damage to her face.

circa 1975

[h=1]Missing toddler's body found in concrete; boy's death was 'predicted,' father's attorney says[/h]
KANSAS — Months before police found 3-year-old Evan Brewer’s body encased in concrete, a woman told a judge that a man living with the boy said he had nearly beat him to death.

Four times the boy’s father and others contacted the state agency charged with protecting children, expressing concern about the boy’s safety, said Shayla Johnston, an attorney for Evan’s father.

“Evan’s death was predicted and happened, and we begged the court system to save him before he was murdered,” Johnston said Thursday.

This completely breaks my heart. This could have been my grandson. My grandsons Mommy started dating a very possessive and abuse guy. She had no clue he was like that. He cut her off from her family and friends. He cut off my grandsons visitation with my son, abused both my grandson and his Mommy. The last time, he beat her so bad that she ended up in critical care. If one of his friends hadn't happened by that night, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have killed them. No one had any idea what was going on, not even his friends. He is now in prison and my grandson luckily is a very healthy and happy kid who sees his Daddy very often now. We had a happy ending. This poor little angel did not.

What a story -- horrible, then happy. Oh, I'm sure all of you know how fortunate everyone is -- an angel must have sent that friend there just in time. Justice was served. How many of these type stories are there to compare with Evan's? Not enuff, not enuff. SMH.

So happy for all of you, Tabirey!
