Could this be a situation where a missing person contacts the police department to let them know that he is OK but doesn’t want to be found for a little while? JMO

O.K. This is what I've got -- update as of Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from the Cheyenne County (KS) Sheriff's Office:

UPDATE 12/01/2020
Jesse Crookston is still missing. He is not considered to be in danger. Searches using bloodhounds were preformed (sic) in the local area. His cell phone and other items are accounted for. As of now, we are ONLY looking for witnesses who have seen him since Sunday evening 11/22/2020 after approximately 8:40pm. At this time we cannot go into further specifics on this ongoing investigation.

If you have seen Jesse Crookston please call the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office at
785-332-8880.

Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office

His vehicles (plural) are still at his house. His cell phone and other items are accounted for as well. The man's only means of taking off on his own would be on foot, or having someone pick him up. I don't think that he would just up and leave without his phone. His wallet is probably "accounted for" also. So I doubt that he has that with him either. Why do the authorities NOT think that he COULD BE in danger? The temperatures are very cold this time of year. I don't get it.

But . . . they know what we don't, I guess. [Need ladder to step down from my soap box.]

For the sake of his safety and comfort, and the love of his wife, children, family and friends, I pray that he is safe and unharmed.

The VI mentioned in passing that LE has looked at security camera footage from around the time he disappeared. My speculation is that they didn't find anything useful to report, or at least anything that they need the public's help for (like a description of a "car of interest").

This case definitely needs boots on the ground. Someone canvassing the neighborhood for any witnesses or video footage.

I'm thinking deer stand or he got into a vehicle. If he left in a vehicle, I hope it was voluntarily. Since he moves from one place to another, it's possible that someone was squatting on his property or that someone attempted to rob his house.

Could someone explain this whole "does not appear to be in danger" aspect to me?

To me it means that (so far) there's no evidence of foul play or accident and perhaps no indication that he could be a danger to himself.

Generally, I've only seen that sort of wording when LE has a pretty good idea of what has taken place, and isn't particularly worried about the person's whereabouts, is why I asked. Here, though....

I’m curious to know what other items LE are referring to?
Keys, wallet, clothing, guns???

Can you explain what you mean by deer stand? I just searched the term and it looks like a place where people can rest/hide when hunting, like a perch. Are you saying that it might be mobile...you can move it? Or it can be used to get away from an area without being seen?

The link to Find Jesse fb page is included on link above, when I click it,
I don’t even see the couple posts & comments that were on here earlier this week...

You're right. That's odd. His wife also hasn't visited this WS page since Tuesday night so maybe she found out where he is.

I can tell you that my friends and family in St Francis are just as baffled by all of this. There is no new info floating around town. Not even a rumor. Lol!

Something is odd here. No word in days from his wife. The FB page she set up has almost nothing on it. The post about him in FB Kansas Missing and Unsolved has been deleted. No update since Tuesday from the sheriffs department on FB.

Maybe his wife took a break from SM. She didn't post much before. Somebody posted a link to WS on a news article and that's how she likely found this forum. We don't know the current status of the case. Lack of further public appeals could indicate that the family wants to deal with this in private or that the police are still working behind the scenes. So far there was no word of plans to conduct public searches.

A basic deer stand for a tree looks like a chair with no legs. It attaches to the tree via a harness and/or straps. They keep hunters and their scents above the ground to give them a good angle for shooting deer and to make them less conspicuous. They can be taken down and moved rather easily.

Some are more of a booth made of camouflage print fabric all designed to hide the hunter up while waiting for game.

Probably not useful for hiding long-term IMHO.

Where are you, Mr. Crookston???
