I can’t yet find any media coverage on it but if I do, will post.

I can't find a single thing in the news about this case which I find strange personally. There are no missing people reported in Osage county, but including the counties that directly border Osage, there are 23 missing people. This includes Shawnee, Douglas, Franklin, Anderson, Coffee, Lyon, and Wabaunsee counties.

Yes I couldn’t either. I checked all the local news pages on Facebook also and nothing. I’m wondering if because it was on Army Corp land it didn’t get reported on for some reason?...

The area is very close to where I grew up, there was a set of remains found last summer not too far from there that ended up being a missing person from Topeka in Shawnee County. So it definitely could be someone from another county or farther.

Google Maps indicates less than 45 minutes to I-70.

Deceased could be from anywhere....

It is quite possible the deceased are from a neighboring county or even state - Pomona State Park is very popular for camping and boating and folks come from all around in the summer. It seems unlikely that it was someone who came to visit the park and then went missing, however - unless the last known contact was before they had come to the park.

The area where the remains were allegedly located is in an interesting spot. The US Army Corp of Engineers building sits right off the Pomona Dam Road (which crosses over the dam). I'm not sure how large the land belonging to the Corp is, but my guess is it's not a huge area. The building itself sits on a small area of land that is surrounded on all sides by publicly accessible roads, so I wouldn't think their land would go beyond that, but I guess it's possible.

For those who don't want to look it up on Google Maps (although I suggest you do):
North of the main building is a triangular shaped area of land with the top point pointing north; the east side of that triangle is a very steep drop off to the lake shore, but the shoreline gradually levels out on the west side of the triangle to a boat dock and parking lot. Directly west of the building is some open grassland; then a public (but probably not well-traveled) road that wraps around to the boat dock; woods; and then a small neighborhood. Through the woods, running east to west, appears to be a small road, trail, or possibly just cleared out land directly to the neighborhood.

Running south and east of the building is Pomona Dam Road. PDR goes northeast over the dam to a popular swimming and camping site and then branches off into a few different country roads. However, taking PDR goes southeast gets you to K-268 in literally a minute. At the corner of K-268 and PDR is a popular restaurant called Green Acres - I've been a few times and I imagine it's a stop for a lot of travelers as there is not much else around. K-268 goes from a ways west of Council Grove KS all the way east to Missouri.

Anyways - I am first of all curious why there is zero media coverage or police statements. But if I had to guess on the deceased, it may have been someone from out of town driving through on K-268, whether foul play was involved or otherwise. I think I will try emailing and asking around to see if I can figure out why it's not being reported on.

I did get confirmation from Scott Rice of the US Army of Corp Engineers that remains were found on their property but the investigation is being handled by the Osage Co Sheriffs Department. I emailed the sheriff to see if I could get more clarity.

Got confirmation from the Osage County Sheriff’s Dept that the investigation is open and ongoing. Still no media coverage which is so strange!

Thanks for reaching out for us and getting this information. I still haven't had any luck with media, I wonder if they know who it is and are waiting to hear back from family members before releasing any information? Although it's still odd that no journalist has put out even a quick "body found, police investigating" article imo.

You’re welcome! Yes that may be possible - although I’d be sure curious how they would ID so soon since there is no mention of any other belongings and they are described as skeletal remains.

Jeffrey Myers, 43, of Ottawa was reported missing in May 2013. [snip] Deputies found human remains in a remote area of Osage County in March 2021. The sheriff’s office said the remains have been identified as Myers.

Looks like you're right.

"In March, Osage County deputies recovered human remains at a remote and currently unspecified location in the county. Further investigation has positively identified those remains as belonging to Myers."
