Dyer is a 5-foot-2 African American woman with short gray hair.

She was last seen by family leaving her home around 8 a.m. March 21 on foot, near Fifth and California streets, according to a social media post by police, and the department announced in a release Tuesday evening that she may have been seen heading out of the Lawrence area. A Silver Alert has been issued for her, city bus operators have been given her picture to distribute, and officers have searched parks and made multiple visits to places she is known to frequent.

Dyer suffers from confusion and memory issues, according to her family.

Police believe she was wearing a black coat with pink lining, or possibly a hoodie, and multicolored pants.

Lawrence community members are coming together to bring Wanda Dyer home. She’s late to celebrate her 46th wedding anniversary.

Dave Dyer, Wanda’s husband, said Lawrence police have told him to wait at the couple’s home in case she shows up there.

She’s slight, at 5-foot-2 and 117 pounds. She’s stayed in good shape, and she loves to walk, Dave said.

But “She’s suffering from dementia. It’s suddenly gotten a lot worse over the last couple of months,” Dave said. “… It’s turned into a horror show.”

….

When Wanda went to the bank Friday morning with no ID or debit card, the bank wouldn’t give her any money, he said. Later that day, she was seen on East 1500 Road, walking toward Eudora.

Dave said Wanda may have been seen arguing with two men in front of Chipotle in downtown Lawrence two or three days ago. Previously, that would’ve been out of character for her.

The Lawrence Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing elderly Kansas woman after receiving new information into her whereabouts.

Since the alert was first issued, police have received new information suggesting Dyer may have been seen leaving out of the Lawrence area causing police to expand their search efforts.

Police say they have searched parks, shared Dyer’s photo with city bus drivers, and visited places Dyer has been known to frequent as part of their search efforts.

Jill Ihde, of Lawrence, and Rochelle Edwards, of Leavenworth, are admins of the Bring Wanda Home Facebook group. Since Friday, they said the group has grown from 50 members to 1,000, and community members are constantly messaging them to help find Dyer.

KSHB 41's Lawrence beat reporter Lily O'Shea Becker spoke with Edwards and Ihde over the phone Tuesday afternoon as Ihde was searching remote roads in Eudora.

It is believed Dyer could've set out on foot toward Eudora or Kansas City, according to KBI.

Edwards said Dyer has a family member in Kansas City, where she grew up.

Yes, it appears she went missing on Feb 22 and was located that same day. It doesn’t state where they found her. IMO, she has made her way farther this time.

Praying she is found safe soon.

From the article:
Dyer also reportedly went missing Feb. 22, according to police, but she was found the same day.

Edwards and others are working to coordinate search parties with EquuSearch Midwest, a group of volunteer specialists who work with law enforcement to find missing people.

“We just want to find her. She has been missing way too long,” Edwards said.

April 2 2025

Wanda Dyer, 74, has been missing for almost two weeks. Her husband of 46 years has a couple of requests for the community.

Dave Dyer said Wednesday that he’s barely slept since Wanda has been gone — since Friday morning, March 21.

Edwards and others have also worked to compile a timeline of reported sightings of Wanda to the best of their ability. Only a few sightings have been confirmed with photo or video proof.

Included at the link above is a map and timeline of reported sightings of Wanda, according to the latest updates from Dave and the folks organizing the search. Sightings confirmed with video or photo proof are noted on the map; others are unconfirmed.

Efforts to locate Wanda Dyer, a missing 74-year-old woman, span from Lawrence, Kansas, to Kansas City, Missouri.

Both LKPD and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation say it's possible she was heading as far east as Kansas City.

Wanda Dyer's family believes she was heading east to Kansas City, where both she and her family have a history of residing. She grew up in the 3500 block of Askew Avenue, worked at the downtown branch of the Kansas City Public Library, and attended Redemptorist School in Kansas City's Midtown before it closed, according to David Dyer.

Lawrence woman still missing after almost 11 weeks

She went missing for a few hours back in February, but it turned out that she was staying the night at their daughter’s house.

Friends launched a Facebook group, “Bring Wanda home,” on March 27 to plan searches and share updates. As of Wednesday, the group had almost 2,000 members.

Searches are paused but will be reactivated if there’s a positive sighting, Dave said.

Fennelly said the missing person case is still active and LPD continues to follow leads.

Wanda is 5-foot-2 and 117 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black coat with pink lining and blue, patterned pants. She was carrying a black backpack. She usually wears a blue surgical mask when she’s out.

If you see Wanda, call 911 immediately. If you have other information about Wanda’s location, call the nonemergency dispatch line at 785-843-0250.

It’s important to approach calmly if making contact. Dave recommended trying to converse with her about books because she loves libraries and had worked at the University of Kansas’ Watson Library for 30 years.
