I saw a news report yesterday about this and the arrests. They interviewed some of the residents in the area and people there were really appalled by this, the outright brazenness of the young attackers. I think what stuns me is the viciousness of the attack. That was a very violent attack on a man that was just a taxi driver that wanted to be paid.

"Her husband went to work...like he did every day at 5 a.m., and he's never coming back," said Fernando Mateo, of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers said. "This guy picked them up to take them where they wanted to go. Why kill the man?"

Maybe the prosecutor's office is more sure of convictions with these charges???

If his death is from head injury from the sidewalk, any breathing defense attorney will say "they didn't mean to kill him." Less of a NG verdict with a manslaughter charge?

In 2022, 4 people were arrested. I can't find any updates from 2023/2024. Bumping up and keeping an eye out for any future trials.
