GUILTY TX - Jordan Edwards, 15, fatally shot by Balch Springs PD officer, 29 April 2017 *guilty and civil trial $21.6M

Thank you for posting the live video. There was nothing on the news. Do you know enough about the legal stuff to help me understand the not guilty ones?
I am not sure why they didn't find him guilty of the aggravated assault as I thought that had to do with the murder. Not sure I totally understand that charge.

I found this definition! So I am not sure how they didn't find him guilty of these charges.

n. the crime of physically attacking another person
which results in serious bodily harm and/or is made
with a deadly or dangerous weapon such as a gun, knife, sword, ax or
blunt instrument. Aggravated assault is usually a
felony punishable by a term in state prison.

The #RoyOliver verdict is legally confusing. The jurors said Oliver was guilty of murder, but not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a public servant. Moments before, jurors said they were not unanimous on the 'justification' element. @LawCrimeNetwork

Two possible explanations: (1) jurors compromised to get out of a split over whether the shooting was justified; or (2) jurors didn't like the charge of aggravated assault charge with a deadly weapon by a public servant because it specifically targeted officers & servants.

Generally, aggravated assault is a lesser included offense to murder. If one is guilty of murder, one is automatically guilty of aggravated assault.

Teachers to #RoyOliver victim Jordan Edwards, 15, are testifying that Edwards was a great student & was always smiling. The defense objected by saying this evidence is not admissible in Texas penalty phases unless the defendant knew the victim. Overruled. @LawCrimeNetwork

(Do all defendants know the person they murdered? Serious question or is this just a Texas thing?)

DALLAS — A white former Texas police officer has been found guilty of murder on Tuesday for fatally shooting an unarmed black teenager as he left a house party in a car full of teenagers.

Roy Oliver was fired from the Balch Springs Police Department days after the April 2017 shooting. Oliver killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards after the then-officer fired into a moving car carrying five black teenagers leaving a local house party. Edwards was in the front passenger seat.

Oliver was found not guilty of lesser charges manslaughter and aggravated assault, CBS DFW reports.
