Police: Kentucky woman arrested after baby found in home with dog feces, cockroaches

Louisville Metro Police were sent to a home after EMS said a man overdosed on illegal drugs.

Police found a "severe" amount of clutter and trash, both inside and outside of the home. They found a 4-month-old girl in a child seat sitting atop a filthy mattress. The child had "very dirty" fingernails and toenails and clutter was on top of the child's head.

The strong stench of dog feces was smelled throughout out the house, and police could see dog feces on the floor, along with flies. There was also a severe cockroach infestation.

There was no baby food or formula inside the fridge or in the kitchen -- but police say the refrigerator "was covered with hundreds of roaches all around the outside of it dead and alive." There was also a trash in the kitchen with gnats flying around it.

April Colling, 34, the wife of the overdosed man, was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor. Louisville Metro Police took custody of the child through an emergency custody order, after discovering that Child Protective Services had already initiated an investigation into the child's living circumstances.

don't yell at me, but I have to wonder where the dog is... there must be one, right? Actually, no, I don't want to know.

Baby girl, I hope you end up with people who love and care for you... but I also know how the system can work. Reunification and all that.

I hope this precious baby girl grows up without ever knowing what the first few months of her life were. Hope the "mother" goes away for a long, long time and never has children again.

It's horrifying to imagine anyone living in such revolting conditions, let alone a 4 month old baby. It makes me angry af, too. Ugh!
Wish I hadn't read about this now.
I don't know how people work for CPS, it would destroy me.

The mom looks like a meth addict.

I hope the baby gets a loving, clean home, by someone who will love her and take proper care of her.

Meth. Of course. You would think they would clean while tweeking on that stuff. Gross. Glad that sweet baby was rescued.

Very lucky baby to have been found now before things could get worse. Imo this poor baby was being led to a very early grave by yet more addicted parents. I hope she can find a real family, whether that be with extended family like grandparents or with a brand new adoptive family.

I think that it probably means that there was so much clutter (meaning dirty clothes and and garbage and stuff) that she was pushed into the only free space.

And how do those people live in that filth? Animals keep their nests clean.

I know I sound callous but I am so glad that man had an overdose because I fear that baby would have had a deceased thread or missing if she hadn't been saved.
At least this poor baby gets to live and hopefully gets an happy ending.
It's nice seeing someone saved in the children's thread it doesn't happen often enough.
