Vernon Melcher Jr is not Almedia’s child. She only had two children. My mother, Hallie/Rose, and her sister Carolyn.

I also found this; what seems to be the record of Vernon E. Melcher jr. If this is correct Almedia would have given birth to him when she was 14. When did she marry Vernon E. Melcher sr. ? Something seems to be off.

I just did a search on Vernon Melcher. The search results showed a Vernon K Melcher in the city directory for 1960. I clicked on it and the scanned image actually shows Vernon E Melcher at the same address where he and Almedia were listed in 1956. But in the 1960 one he is listed alone, no Almedia to be found.

I can’t find their divorce records but I know they were divorced before her disappearance in 1963-64. She was single/dating when she went missing.

I found an obituary for her mother Hallie that mentions a Mrs. Earl Lewis. There are quite a few listed on Ancestry... Interestingly one of them is listed as a truck driver and was killed in an accident in 1960.

W Kentucky St and Ormsby Ave (Their respective addresses, if correct) are approx 1 mile apart.

ETA: Of note, the 1950 census has her w/James Floyd living on S Shelby St.

So to summarize (if this is the same woman) she married Floyd, Melcher and Lewis? Is it correct she still was with Lewis when she vanished? Or was Mr. Lewis killed in an accident in 1960? If so she could have been married again after that.

Trying to make some kind of timeline, but still a lot of holes and therefor questions. (text) are my own thoughts/questions.

Almedia (also known as Almeda. It's possible her names are interchanged in records and she went by the name Carolyn Almedia Flood and/or a married name, also seen her named Almelia C, Almedia Hoood)

Date of Birth: 16 Aug 1922 (In 1963 she would have been approx. 41 when missing, when missing in 1964 she would have been approx. 42, Where is the 43 yrs. when missing in Namus coming from? If she was missing when 43 it would have been around 1962, one year earlier then the estimated last contact)

The last known contact with her was when she was in nursing school, possibly in 1963-1964. (With who was the last known contact? By letter, phone, postcard?, 100% sure it was her? What nursing school/in what city was the nursing school? Are there any records left? Was she working there or schooled to be a nurse at approx. 42 yrs. old?)

From family-member being a grandchild of Almedia "After my mother graduated, she left and was never seen again. My uncle, a police officer was able to track her to Florida but was never able to find her". (in what year did Almedia's daughter graduate? Is there more to tell about her being tracked to Florida. How was this established? In what year?) And also this; "The investigator in charge tried to do a search for a license or ID for her nation wide post 1963 and couldn’t find anything."

It's possible it was Almedia who was admitted to the hospital in Bowling Green, and it's possible she lived on Vine Street there at the time. I'll see if I can find anything else. (Not important, but I found that news clip quite interesting because there were so many people from NY admitted to that hospital in Kentucky at the same time).

Who died on 01 Jun 1948? I don't understand. This must be a typo. Almedi's Father died in 1951, her mother in 1953.
Interesting to know she had TB. Was she in the nursing school perhaps of that?

RSBM I have no idea. I think it was a mistake as it's a blend of family info from more than one source.

I wonder why Vernon was living in Bowling Green KY in 1971, AND it's very interesting that he obtained a divorce from Ruth Ann Melcher in that same town where Almeda was hospitalized AND in the same year. I think Louisville (where she had been living for many years) had better hospitals.

It would be interesting to know when she was discharged from the hospital.

Also, I wonder where in Florida (and when) she was tracked by the police officer/family member.

i have never seen such a Family tree, extraordinary!
The 1948 death is that of her sister Lavinia, born 1918. I think death cause is Tuberculosis? Oh sorry having trouble attaching file.

I wonder if it was Ruth or Almedia who was hospitalized in 1971... maybe Almedia was long gone from KY?

ETA: Ruth died in 1976 (five years after divorcing Melcher)

Her sister Lavenia died at Waverly Hills. My mother believes Almedia also had it but was being treated successfully. If she died at a hospital, she would have needed to have been admitted as a Jane doe. Social Security was never notified of her death.
