RBBM. They also let a convicted felon who had an active warrant out for his arrest stay overnight there and "forgot" to tell the police. That may be a factor in the CPS removal as well. I don't think she was removed only because she wandered off, JMO.

Search continues for missing 2-year-old girl in Bullitt County

I hope whatever happens, it will be what is best for Charlee.

That could have been their son. Do you recommend that every parent denies their son entrance to their home because he is a convicted felon?

If I know he is wanted by police (and I have a toddler in the home), yes I would tell him he can't stay here. If I didn't know about the warrant I might let him stay (depending on what the conviction was for and what he had been doing with his life since). I definitely would NOT "forget" he was there if my 2 year old granddaughter disappeared the next day. I would tell the police he had been there but we knew he left before she went missing.

CPS seem to remove kids for reasons like this and leave kids for reasons like Lucas etc etc etc. There's really no rhyme or reason with family service agencies, so marking it as there being more to the story or them being negligent or what have you, really seems to place more faith in the system working than it does their usual "where ever the wind blows" approach to doing things.

It took me years o find out the magic key to getting into fostercare is

Wait for it

Life threatening event.
As in you need to nearly die, or proven to be in an undeniable situation which results in a percentage of fatalities, before you are removed from danger.

I've survived in the elements as a kid like this toddler, but not so young and not always without animals to keep me warm. There is just something very self evident about a child this young coming home which is remarkable enough to warrant removing her until whatever is going on is resolved.

If Charlee has a high monthly payout like I did she's going to a good home, if she's a lower ranking well don't put away those prayers yet.

Does grandmother normally sleep late? Or was this day when Charlie got out just an unusual day? If it is normal for grandma to sleep in, Charlie has too much alone time in the house with no adult supervision. This will be grounds to take her away from grandmother IMO.

The adult caretaker isn’t allowed to sleep in for hours after a child gets up - there is too much for a child to get into.

I'd hate to see Charlee put in the foster care system. There is no guarantee she'd go to a good and loving home. I've heard too many foster care horror stories to think that is the answer for Charlee.

I'm hoping her grandparents check out well with CPS, maybe get some training to brush up on accountability to a child in your care and go from there.

I don't think it's in Charlee's best interest to rip her away from th only family she knows.

Charlee isn't the first child who figured out how to escape a home when everyone else (Grandma) was asleep.

Perhaps the only change that needs to happen is to train Charlee to wake up an adult when she gets up.

In all honestly, this could happen to anyone with a small child in the house. It doesn't make them neglectful parents.

I just hate to see CPS stop in and take over because they don't have a very good record in my book of making the right decisions in some of these child's cases. I personally don't trust them.

In interviews with family, they only hear what they want to hear that fits with what they already decided the course they plan to take.

Charlee deserves better than that and one way or the other, wherever she goes, Penny Needs to be a packaged deal. IMO

Well we don't know what LE or CPS has seen in the home. Maybe nothing, maybe more. The police said obvious neglect in his view. Time will tell what evidence exists.

We aren’t worthy enough for dogs. I’m glad she is safe. Xo
I agree. They say it was a miracle from God, and it was; but, I believe God needed the help of this worthy four-legged creature to work his miracle.

I read that the searchers carried guns to protect themselves from wild boars--I would bet everything I have that had a boar charged Charlee, Penny would have put up a valiant fight to save her. Just her fearless presence along side the child may have deterred them.

The following transcript is from a video released just before Charlee was found safe. I have omitted the last names.

I am relieved LE are still investigating, but like many posters here am not convinced that Charlee should be removed from her home and the people that do love her. But, sometimes, love is not enough. Sadly.

@ about 2:38 minutes in, Wave 3 News Reporter, Mike Fussell:

Yeah, I’m here in Shepherdsville right now. I’ve been at the court house all day trying to learn more—a little bit about Charlee; her family; and the last place she was seen.

We have some of these court documents here that help tell that story.

Here is what we know right now: Charlee was last seen at her grandmother’s house in the 600 Block of Winding Hollow Road. We’ve requested a log of 911 calls from the residence but we have yet to receive it.

Beth and Ronald are listed as the owners of that house. The Bullitt County Sheriff has confirmed Ronald is Charlee’s grandfather. Beth who is listed as living at the same residence has somewhat of a criminal history according to court documents. She has faced charges related to drug use, shoplifting, and DUI. Authorities say that both of Charlee’s grandparents living at that address have been questioned and have custody of the child.

Officials say Charlee’s mother’s boyfriend was taken into custody on outstanding, unrelated warrants Thursday. I cross-referenced that with the jail roster here and found that a Charles had been arrested on Winding Hollow Road yesterday. He has outstanding warrants in Broward County, Florida related to burglary, and tampering with witnesses or victims. Extradition documents state he has a violent tendency and is a sexual offender.

A family cousin was also questioned and released today.

My thoughts exactly. And while oversleeping until 10 am with a toddler in the house isn’t a crime we don’t know if it was a one-time occurrence. Perhaps Grandma sleeping in was a regular occurrence and the only reason Charlee escaped was that Grandpa forgot to lock the door that morning when he left for work.

Toddlers usually wake their parents up in the morning, in my experience. It should have been difficult to oversleep that late with a two year old and a dog in the house.

When I heard that they had a late night guest that left at 4:30 am, my mind went to the thought that Grandma and the houseguest were partying all night, or late into the night. Drinking, perhaps, or smoking pot, or something. This is just my speculation on one of many scenarios that could have occurred that night, so MOO.

If Grandma stayed up late probably Grandpa was sleeping as he had to get up early to go to work.

So, at the very least Grandma used poor judgement regarding the convicted felon houseguest and “forgetting” to tell LE he had been in the house. She could have been in the habit of oversleeping with a toddler in the house unattended.

I was bothered by the shirt that Grandma was wearing the first time I saw it. It seemed more like something a teenager would wear, and I would think most adults would change into another shirt when they were in front of media, LE, and searchers.

Charlee’s Mom doesn’t have custody but leaves nearby. Mom’s boyfriend had outstanding warrants. Grandma had questionable judgement and is possibly neglectful. Grandpa seems to be the responsible adult in her life.

I am hoping that CPS will provide oversight and let Charlee remain in the home but the sheriff knows more about the situation than we do.

Is Charlee's Mother's boyfriend who was taken into custody on outstanding warrants the same man who stayed the night at the grandparent's house?

I don't think so. Earlier, we were saying that the man who stayed the night--or until 4:30 am--was a friend or maybe a cousin.

But there seems to be some confusion on this--I think different media outlets may have reported differently.

Sorry, I don't really know what is correct.

Thanks for trying to figure it out. Neither option is really good. If it's the same man, then Charlee's grandparents let a convicted sex offender felon with violent tendencies stay the night. Although, they may not have known his history-- if it is the same man, they may have let him stay because he was their daughter's boyfriend. That could make sense because maybe Charlee's mom was staying with him too. On the other hand, if it's NOT the same man, then there is more than one convicted felon with outstanding warrants who was connected to Charlee's family and may have had access to her... That's not good. It's possibly why the sheriff said he didn't know "if someone was thinking something bad and changed their mind" and that they would continue to investigate. JMO.

When it was reported that Charlee’s mother’s boyfriend had outstanding warrants, has a violent history and is a sexual offender I wondered if he had ever been around Charlee. Her mother said she saw Charlee every day, did she take the boyfriend with her on these visits?

With the possible exception of Grandpa, it seems all the adults in her life make poor decisions.

BBM, Where did the violent sex offender history come from? Have I missed somewhere were it said a violent sex offender stayed there?

I would say that in cases like this one, where family members have less than stellar backgrounds or people around them who have less than stellar backgrounds, would be more inclined to omit things when talking to the police - like having a convicted felon over etc, because look where the thought process goes.
Yes, maybe sometimes that person could have done something, but lots of times they haven't and some cases have been messed around by the police or the media having the focus on the wrong person just because they have a history. It prevents things from getting solved. It becomes too much of the focus so often.
I understand why there's often little information in certain cases from certain demographics - look how that reporter skewed the information by going on about Grandma's unrelated convictions. Like as if they're adding it for colour to say "Well, they're those kind of people, so it makes sense".
The convicted felon in this case doesn't seem to have contributed to anything, but still, it colours people's views of the situation. It's interesting.

Usually I'd err on that side too, but it's sort of heartbreaking when you can see the mechanics of blame at play in the media especially. I know it's two completely different cases and two completely different areas, but it's interesting how quick they are to mention this families legal issues, when you compare it to say, Emily Glass, whom I felt even the media and even the police were reluctant to call her out for what she was, even though she had her convictions.

It comes down to poor reporting and regional bias, because you really should be able to piece together a story without adding journalistic MSG like a shoplifting record. Yet there it is.

See post#489 by Truth Pravails. We don't know for sure if he was the same man who stayed the night. If he's not the same man, then TWO convicted felons with outstanding Warrants connected to the family were taken into custody during this investigation.

If you have time, go up to comment 489. It's in the transcript, but the link should take you to an article with a video on top. You can find it in the video.

No, we don't know if it is the same man or not, so it may be better to say nothing rather than jump to conclusions.
