*We stand with Mr. Ballard and Crystal. WS also asks…

"The one thing I'd like to say is I want, I'd like to know why," Tommy Ballard said, Crystal's dad.

How long we have waited! This arrest is so important to Sherry B. Friends, she may gain custody of her grandson today. There could be at least one more arrest in this case.

Arrest # 1 - Joseph Lawson - Sept 7, 2023

Arrest # 2 - Brooks Houcks - Sept 27, 2023

Arrest # 3 -

Absolutely fantastic news for Crystal's family, hope it leads to similar news regarding Crystal's beloved dad who worked so hard to find her

He’s only dad to one of her kids, right?
Bittersweet for her remaining family. Such sacrifices it took to get to this day but it’s finally here. MOO
Yah. He made clear to her that the step kids were not his. He refused to buy them food, clothing or anything. He put that responsibility on Crystal and then cared for his son only. Pretty big clue there.

The two cases are not the only unsolved murders in Bardstown, and the Roger’s disappearance has long captivated the public and true crime community, a growing subset of enthusiasts and citizen sleuths. In light of recent events, we’ve rounded up some true crime coverage of the Rogers case over the years, including podcasts and national TV appearances.

A six-episode mini series titled “The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers” was released in 2018 and analyzes Rogers’ disappearance and the death of her father through interviews with investigators and family members.

It shouldn't surprise me that the Houk family is attempting to maintain custody, but come on!! Be reasonable, people. Do you know how heartless you appear?! Meanwhile, I'm confident that Mrs. Ballard would include as many Houk family members in Eli's life as are safe, in terms of stability and putting his needs first. imo

I certainly hope this is denied. He's gotten away for far too long to be given the right to a lowered bail and an ankle monitor. He's had an extra 8 years of freedom.

He looks so confident or defiant in his mugshot. He doesn't appear worried, even in the slightest. SMH

Okay - this is going to be long as I started keeping notes after she disappeared. I shall now shorten it up a bit! :)

Thursday, Oct. 5th:
*Arraignment Hearing (@ 1pm ET) - KY – Crystal M. Rogers (35) (reported missing July 3, 2015; car (with flat tire) was found (July 5, 2015) on Bluegrass Parkway near mile marker 14 with keys in ignition & her belongings (phone & purse) in car, Bardstown). POI – *Brooks William Houck (33 @ time of crime/41) BF official named suspect Oct. 2015. - *Brooks Houck (33 @ time of crime/41) arrested, charged & indicted (9/27/23) with felony murder & tampering with physical evidence. Bond $10M CASH Only! Was transferred (9/27/23) from Nelson County jail to Hardin County Detention Center.
From my notes: 7/23/20 Update: Crystal's family notified. The discovery on 7/23/20 was near the border of Nelson & Washington County. Sources close to the case said it is a location near where Rogers was last seen alive in July 4, 2015 & less than 4 miles from Houck’s farm. Police say they became aware of the remains on Thursday (7/23/20) & called in the FBI’s Evidence Response Team on Friday (7/24/20) due to the “difficult to reach location.” The remains were sent to the FBI’s lab in Quantico, Virginia for testing. A human skeleton was discovered July 23, 2020 as a neighbor of the property was walking the area, according to one of the owners of the property where they were found. The property owner did not want to be identified publicly. The recent discovery of human remains along a tributary of the Beech Fork River was likely the result of a combination of nature and luck. The person who discovered the remains noticed what looked like a bone protruding from the side of the creek bank at least 10 feet above the waterline. There has been widespread speculation the discovery was the body of Crystal Rogers, who went missing in July 4, 2015, although the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting results from the FBI lab.
8/6/20 Update: FBI Louisville takes over as the lead investigative agency. They are working with the Internal Revenue Service, Kentucky State Police, & the United States Attorney’s Office. And as of this morning (8/6/20) more than 150 state & federal law enforcement officers connected to the case have started to execute nine federal search warrants & will be conducting more than 50 interviews in Bardstown, Kentucky. Police arrived & served search warrants at Brooks Houck's home (on Glenview Drive) about 5:45am & put up tape. His brother Nick Houck's (former Bardstown Police officer) home (Pulliam Ave.) & the family farm on Paschal Ballard Lane (their mother Rosemary Houck's home). After being on scene at Brooks’ home for nearly 5 hours. FBI agents at Brooks Houck's home were seen seizing two guns from the residence, and members of the IRS could be seen taking dozens of boxes and two filing cabinets from the home. Agents were also seen removing at least four large weapons from Nick Houck's home during their search, which also included a white truck on the property. Per News: Looks like agents busted in through front door. Door is off hinges, glass broken. 8/6/20: Law enforcement has been at the home of Brooks Houck since 6 am. They’ve collected multiple evidence, and are now loading up guns. LE is set up for 24 hour shifts on search warrants & will be investigating all weekend.
8/7/20 Update: While there were similarities to both of those searches (at Nick & Brooks) — dozens of federal agents searching homes & vehicles & seizing items — there were also some obvious differences. Most of the agents outside Nick’s home were identified as either FBI agents or civilian evidence recovery technicians. At Brooks’ home, the majority of the agents bore IRS identification. Federal agents & LE entered a second day of area searches in Crystal's case. Federal agents remained on the ground Friday morning on one of at least three sites. FBI agents spent a second day today searching the Houck farm. Crystal’s car, found abandoned on the side of Bluegrass Parkway in 2015 which had a flat tire with the cell phone, keys & her purse still inside, was towed into the hands of the FBI from storage unit that her mother has kept it in since disappearance in 2015.
8/8/20 Update: Investigators are on day three, searching on Brooks Houck’s family farm for any signs of where Crystal could be. Agents have tents set up on the property where operations continue.
8/9/20 Update: The FBI has released new surveillance photos relating to the investigation into Crystal’s disappearance that will hopefully lead to new information. The two photos show several vehicles that were driving or stationed around several investigation points. One photo shows a red SUV & a white SUV driving down Loretto Road, near the My Old Kentucky Home campground. The time which the photo was taken was not given. Another photo, taken on July 4, 2015 around 3:45 a.m., shows an unknown vehicle with its headlights on traveling along Balltown Road near the intersection of Paschal Ballard Road, close to the Houck family farm. Now in their fourth day of investigation, agents have set up tents on the property of the Houck family farm. Investigation into the case has been ongoing since July 23, where human remains were found on the embankment in a wooded, secluded area in Nelson County. At 5:03 p.m. Sunday night, FBI Louisville announced that it has concluded its judicially authorized search activities in Bardstown.
8/10/20 Update: The FBI was back in Bardstown Monday evening, canvassing a neighborhood in connection with Crystal's investigation. The FBI said they went to Lookout Court in Valley View Estates to talk to neighbors after receiving multiple tips on the agency's case task force website, though it is unclear at this time what those tips were & how they relate to the Rogers investigation. The IRS was also in the neighborhood for the canvass. 8/12/20 Update: The FBI were back canvassing/interviewing neighbor’s a few doors down from Nick’s home.
8/17/20: The FBI has identified another area of interest in their search for clues to the disappearance of Crystal in July 2015. On website for a law enforcement task force conducting the investigation, the FBI asked residents of Nelson County to recalled the area near Poplar Flat Road (KY-605) & Farmaway Drive, east of Bardstown near Botland, on July 4, 2015.
8/17/20 Update: The unsolved murders of Jason Ellis, Kathy & Samantha Netherland & Tommy Ballard were also added to the task force's website. As the FBI continues to dig into all cases. 8/19/20 Update: FBI executing search at Crystal’s storage unit. They are pulling everything out of the unit, photographing & collecting evidence. IRS here too. FBI agents out Wednesday evening talking to neighbors of Brooks Houck.
11/20/20 Update: from the FBI that the human remains, which were located at the Washington County/Nelson County line were not those of Crystal Rogers. Just like our community we were hopeful it would assist in answers and closure in Crystal Rogers; case. The remains were processed through CODIS, which stands for the Combined DNA Index System. The case remains open as the human remains are unidentified at time.
6/28/21 Update: There were few developments in the case until the summer of 2020, when the FBI announced they were taking over as the lead investigators. Federal officers served search warrants on Houck family properties, went through Rogers' storage unit- which had never been searched before- and announced they would be completing hundreds of interviews in their search for the truth. This week the FBI provided WHAS11 with this update on the investigation: "As the sixth anniversary of the disappearance of Crystal approaches, FBI Louisville remains steadfast in its investigation. Our investigators continue to uncover information & are working diligently to piece together what truly happened on July 3, 2015. The FBI will continue to use all available resources to bring this investigation to an appropriate conclusion."
8/24/21 Update: Based on information collected over the last year by the federal investigation into the disappearance of Crystal, FBI Louisville is now conducting several searches in the Woodlawn Springs subdivision (Bardstown, KY). A family member of Crystal Rogers told WDRB that the FBI was using K-9s in the search. Sonar equipment was also seen being used on the scene. Agents reportedly planned to continue searching until late Tuesday evening. It's unclear if they will return on Wednesday. Agents & sheriff's deputies were cleared around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The FBI just confirmed they will be back out at this Bardstown property, searching for a second day. On day #1 they laid tarps, brought out shovels & used a cadaver dog to find where to dig. The driveway/concrete appeared to be a point of interest.
8/25/21: FBI Louisville is back in Bardstown Wednesday searching the area around a home built by her ex-boyfriend’s construction company. The Nelson County road department lent assistance in the morning, providing a backhoe, truck with a dump bed & a handful of workers. The crew spent about an hour at the site of the search, which is not visible from a security checkpoint restricting access to North Howard Street. The crew left around 10am hauling broken concrete in the bed of the truck. The FBI just confirmed there will be a third day of searching on Thursday, 8/26/21 in Bardstown. They plan to start early in the morning. Initially, this search was supposed to last one day. They now appear to be focused on one spot, underneath a driveway.
8/26/21: FBI Search Day 3: Every so often we see another Nelson County Road Dept. truck hauling thick pieces of concrete through this Woodlawn Springs neighborhood as the FBI continues to look for clues in the Crystal Rogers case. More of the same as yesterday. Will be back for day #4 of the Rogers' search first thing Friday morning.
8/27/21: FBI just announced agents have found an item of interest during their dig in the Woodlawn Springs subdivision. FBI wrapping up work for today. And will be back tomorrow for Crystal's search day 5.
8/28/21: FBI was back on Saturday. Also the FBI is offering up to a $25K reward for info leading to the identification, arrest & conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the disappearance of Crystal. The site of the FBI search is now under 24 hour surveillance, by multiple agencies. KSP taking over the roadblock for the night shift while Nelson County Sheriff continues working it during the day.
8/29/21: FBI search day #6… heavy machinery rolling past the roadblocks to assist in the property search. Based off of what I can see (from the roadblock) it appears the search may have moved to the front yard. Still no update on the “item of interest” discovered Friday. Sheriff’s deputies continue to work the roadblock, as FBI special agents search a property.
8/30/21: The FBI search continues today through the rain in Bardstown. FBI search will be suspended due to weather. Special agents say multiple items of interest that initially show they could potentially be relevant to the case & have been discovered on site & sent to the FBI Lab. 9/2/21: FBI personnel will be conducting a search of the materials located at the offsite collection point in Bardstown, KY on Saturday, Sept. 4th.
9/4/21: FBI special agents are back in Bardstown this morning digging at Dean Watts Park- where they dumped materials removed from the search site. This is right across the street from the subdivision where they were digging last week.
9/7/21: FBI says recent search related to disappearance of Crystal Rogers has concluded. Special agents now focused on bringing justice to the people responsible for her disappearance.
10/17/22 Update: FBI agents are back in Bardstown & a search is underway on a 245 acre farm, known as the last place Crystal Rogers was seen alive. Agents were first spotted on Paschal Ballard Lane around 7:30am Monday morning. The agency confirmed to WHAS11 they are executing a search warrant on the property. The 245-acre farm is located on Paschal Ballard Lane, near the intersection of Loretta Road & Balltown Road. It's about nine miles south of downtown Bardstown. Rosemary Houck, Brooks Houck's mom, owns the property. Brooks Houck was named the main suspect in Rogers' disappearance in October of 2015, but has never been arrested or charged in the case. FBI Louisville says the search could take several days, depending on weather & ground conditions. The FBI descended on the Houck Family farm at 7:30 am EST this morning. They have searched here previously but they seem to have narrowed down what exactly they’re looking for after last summer’s search at a property Brooks Houck owned at the time of Crystal’s death. 10/18/22 Update: FBI agents are back on the property for a 2nd day of searches. FBI were back for a 3rd day, 10/19/22. Special agents confirm they used cadaver dogs & heavy machinery for excavating here today. 10/21/22: Will be back for the 5th day to search again the 245 acre area. FBI confirms search is is done & evidence was collected on the Houck farm during the 5 day warrant execution. They hope that the evidence collected will move their investigation one step closer to holding accountable the individual(s) responsible for Crystal's disappearance.
10/25/22 Update: Evidence found last week in connection to the Crystal Rogers case is being sent to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia. The FBI officially took over the case in 2020. Much of their focus last week was on the Houck family farm in Bardstown. While the FBI did not say what evidence was found, they did say: “We hope that the evidence collected will move our investigation one step closer to holding accountable the individual or individuals responsible for Crystal Rogers’s disappearance.”
11/3/22: Nelson County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Brooks Houck on Thursday for charges of failing to pay fines and court costs, and he was taken into custody that morning. He was released from jail shortly thereafter. There was a $353 fine associated with his arrest. Deputy Will Purdom was the arresting officer. In addition, Houck was also cited on Tuesday by NCSO Deputy Jerry Hardin for failure to wear seat belts. He is scheduled to be arraigned on that charge in Nelson District Court on 11/22/22.
1/24/23 Update: Earlier this month, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron appointed Shane Young as the special prosecutor to assist in the prosecution of potential criminal charges related to the deaths of Jason Ellis & Tommy Ballard, as well as the disappearance of Crystal Rogers.

9/27/23 Update: Brooks Houck was arrested & indicted Wednesday, 9/27/23, according to FBI Louisville. Houck was arrested "without incident" on charges stemming from the Rogers investigation, the FBI wrote. The indictment is sealed & more details will be released at his arraignment in early October. It is unclear if a bond has been set. Attorney Brian Butler, who represents Houck, declined to comment. Houck, who had been Rogers' boyfriend, was named as a suspect three months after she disappeared. He was the last person to see her alive. He has been charged with murder & tampering with evidence. Bond is set at $10M & no contact with Rogers family. Arraignment hearing on 10/5/23 in the Nelson County Circuit Court. Houck was moved to Hardin County 9/27/23.
10/2/23 Update: On Monday Houck's attorney Brian Butler requested (filed) that the $10 million bond be lowered to $500K cash & with GPS monitoring with work release & put on home incarceration if released as current bond is excessive, punitive & serves no purpose other than to punish Mr. Houck. His arraignment is set for 10/5/23 & the bond motion will be made the same day.
