There are so many unanswered questions I have about this. The supposed incident that sparked this whole episode is when a mob of students at Kentucky State University, a HBCU, robbed and ransacked the dorm room of one of the two student sons of Jason Bard. The student called the police. A mob, many of whom are not actual students at the college, continued to harass and bully him for two months. The campus police did not seem to effectively offer any security. The boy and his friends couldn't even leave their dorm room to get food. Why was this allowed to get so out of hand? What was the real issue behind the mob harassing this boy? Why was security so lax about it? The boy finally calls his dad, and the parents arrive on campus, meet with the dean and campus police, and are not satisfied with their response. They go to the boy's dorm, accompanied by police, to move their son out. The mob retaliates, fighting with the police and getting violent with the dad. The dad shoots into the mob and kills De'Jon Fox Jr. and injures another person. The grand jury declines to indict the dad on December 23. I'd love to know more about the background of this incident. The parents of the dead man have been arrested for making threats against Jason Bard. The parents of De'Jon were arrested and charged with intimidation. They were bullying Jason Bard (father of bullied boy).

  • [Bard's was] withdrawing both sons from school because of “multiple armed, violent” incidents against them and other students in the days leading up to Dec. 9
  • When the family and an officer reached the dormitory entrance on the move-out day, the group of people in masks and hoods rushed out and began violently assaulting the family and others, including beating the son’s head against the pavement.

Your post is a fascinating read, but I have to ask, where did the information actually come from? Not from the NY Post article you link to.

Actually the incident that sparked the whole episode was when one of the bullied sons of Bard's reported a burglary in his dorm room. So basically, the son was burgled, he reported the crime, then those (IMO) who did wrong to begin with got mad and the whole mess began. I'll never be able to understand why the human race always seems to forget if they've done something wrong first. It's like they conveniently forget that, then they are made at the victim for doing something about it. smh

In October, the younger son reported a burglary in his dorm room to campus police and received threats of violence afterward, the attorneys said.

There is a lot of information out there, especially from more local news outlets. I just shared the NY Post link because it's more or less "national" and isn't behind a paywall. The NYT also has an article but although I can gift the link to it, I don't think I'm allowed by WS policy to share a link to a paywalled article? Is that right? The problem is that the information is a little sketchy about the story behind this tragedy, so I consulted various sources. I still don't have a complete picture of why the college allowed this to get out of control. . Here is a more local source. Grand jury declines to indict man in fatal Kentucky State University shooting of 19-year-old from Indianapolis
