KY - Eight Month Old in Serious Condition After Baby wipes stuffed down throat

I don't understand the mother being charged in this case. There are other cases where I think the mom should be arrested, but the article said nothing about there being prior suspicious events between her, the bf and this child. She was taking her other child to the bus stop, not off on a search for crack! Now, if she knew he was abusive and had hurt her children before, then YES lock her up now.
I am assuming there is other evidence of abuse. You can not tell me this is the first time he has hurt the baby

I guess it is time we start selling the idea birth control to teens instead of abstinence but thats a whole other topic, lol.
my husband teaches and has a junior girl in his class, not even 17 yet and she is 7 months pregnant. he has antoher student who has 2 kids and is 17. the mother in her case is in her early to mid 30's he said. So it is a cycle.

When I was a teen I went to PP and got birth control. They really need to start being more aggressive in teaching sex ED to kids in schools because many parents do not have the talk with their kids.

Girls should be taught about their cycle and ovulation, fertile times, etcc.. I kow I was not taught this at all and actually had no idea what time in my cycle I was fertile until I was 30! Up until then, I never risked it and always used BC and condoms.

2sisters I agree with you 100%. The whole abstinence thing (while I LOVE the idea) is just not going to happen and it never has. I was in health class,I took sex-ed, I knew how to NOT get pregnant. I was a 17 year old senior expecting my first child. I did marry my daughters father and we have 2 other children now and been married for 14 1/2 years but I also know that my story is not ideal.

Did the baby die? I thought he was in serious condition, did I miss a new article.

You are right! No you didn't miss anything. I read the comment after a news article and didn't even pick up on the discrepancy. :banghead:

Maybe the one who made the comment meant to say attempted homicide or some such.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20743611/

Crum, who is not related to the infant, claimed that he had given the child the baby wipe to play with, but doctors told police that there is no way a child that age would be able to get the baby wipe lodged in it's troat by itself.

The child's mother, Shauna Childers, was also arrested and charged with complicity in the case. Police say the charge is due to Childers allegedly leaving the infant in Crum's care while she took another child to a school bus stop.

I think these girls/women are aware of birth control options. What they need is education about relationships and responsibility. (Heck, I'm 47 and can't figure out why men do what they do :-) These gals think they are in love or they want a baby to love. They need to realize that they may very well be raising that baby alone and broke.

To be honest, when I ended up raising my baby alone and broke - it was much nicer than being married to a jerk and broke. There's no one to argue with over why you are broke! ;-)

Oh I hear that!!! I raised my son alone and broke too but it was better than being married to a liar.

I know that the problem around here is that most kids won't even buy condoms or go to the health departments to get them because word will get around and that is NOT a good thing here. Like I said before we had several girls (ranging from age 12 to 17) that were pregnant before I left (and this was a private Christian school too). Every one of them KNEW that they should be either using condoms or birth control, but knew that if they did get them that both their parents and their peers would label them some pretty bad things and they didn't want that. So then did what they did and paid the consequences. The pressures of the men (nearly all the fathers were 18+) outweighed the pressures of the people around them most, and it's easier to go around discreetly and hope for the best than protect yourself from these types of things.

Oh, it is NOT AT ALL uncommon for 18, 19, 20 year olds to be dating girls as young as 13 or 14 here -- usually closer to 15 or 16 but not always. One girl was 16 and the guy was 38 -- and instead of putting the guy in jail the father made them get married!!! Sometimes I wonder why I still live here with children..... If I could afford to move then I think we would.

OH on this one, at least in our county, sex ed is BANNED. Period. I think that most schools in my immediate area are this way. The last teacher that tried in health class was fired for inappropriate/unethical conduct. If the parents don't teach it, then it won't be taught here.

*Wishing I could splice quotes like some on here do now...*

I know of a few like that too. Actually the girl I mention married to the 38 year old's mother had four by 18 and her daughter had three by 18 (they have seven now counting three from his first marriage). Her father was (get this) 35 years older than her mother.

I agree with this 100 percent.

Unless she knew of a prior incident with the boyfriend and children there is no way she could be guilty of something done outside of her presence. If she did know then yes in indeed shes guilty too.

That's horrifying.

There are laws preventing health care professionals from discussing patients. Why aren't laws like HIPPA enforced and folks right down to the file clerks provided from talking in the community about who comes for bc. I once had a job in a health care facilily (before HIPPA) and we were not even allowed to tell our family about conditions of our family until the Doctor did. Anyone should be able to go to the doctor for birth control or whatever without the whole community knowing.

Thanks, SadieMae. I was wondering just what that was for.

Anywhooo, news today said that baby is OUT of hospital, although it is believed that he will have some sort of permanent damage from this event. (I'm guessing vocal chords or airpipe?)

Turns out that the mom had only KNOWN this guy for -- get this -- TWO WEEKS. She was living with him after knowing him for TWO WEEKS....:banghead:

Also, he was charged with threatening ANOTHER small child in another county before this... What is WRONG with people today?
