KY-Laken Snelling, 21, arrested after giving birth and infant was found in closet

  • #101
Agree, but there are also other ways if abortion is banned like anonymous birth in the hospital. She could have easily said she goes in for a minor procedure, give birth and baby would be safe and loved and she could go on with her life as well.

Did the bf know about the pregnancy? edit: I see he killed the baby (or at least did not help getting medical care) and hid it. absolutely disgusting. be a man and support your woman and help her either raise the baby you made or both decide on giving it up for adoption.
Wait what now?? The bf killed the baby? That’s the first I’ve heard of that… <modsnip: No link to an approved source>

I, personally, would base her actions on whether live birth, live birth and dies, still birth. Live birth and heathy has no business being in a closet, IMO. Live birth and the baby dies within hours, I see panic, maybe depression and sadness and no idea what to do. Still birth, sadness maybe panic and depression and still no idea what to do, because baby box is out of the question. Keeping it is not even a choice now. But this is JMO.

If she has just given birth to a child that is no longer a source of joy, but of sadness, and there is no guidance as to what to do when it happened not in a hospital (whether by accident or choice), I can see being overcome with the afterbirth hormones, panicking and hiding the remains in the closest trying to figure out what to do. Going to LE woud not even be an options because they'd just blame her for what would have been a thing that happens in a hospital on a regular basis. Not all young women get proper guidance for situations like this or would have the proper support system, sad to say.

That is how I see it, from my very narrow point of view.

Yes, I’m with you here.
So where does a young woman go for discrete help in such situations?

I would not have gone to my parents, or any of my three older sisters… no way would I want to face the scrutiny and judgment that would come, or the disappointment in Dad’s face.

I would have gone to a friend who was a peer, and hoped they knew what to do.

Maybe that is who called LE?

I wonder about the family dynamics in these situations. We always told our kids, no matter what problem they have, no matter how messed up it is, come to us, we will work on it together.

And in this instance, we would have "solved" the problem with a quick weekend trip to Las Vegas. Or whatever other alternative our daughter wanted, have a baby, live at home, put baby up for adoption, whatever...

Cheaper than an attorney, and this drama.

I wonder, did this girl not feel like she could go to her parents for help? Like they would have judged her or been critical? So, now this is the mess?!

Where did you see that about the boyfriend?

They are definitely supporting her now. After the fact.

Because it is Kentucky, I assume their religious influences and politics are similar to Texas.
In Kentucky abortions are illegal, except in the event of rape or incest.
So if they are ProLife then taking her elsewhere for an abortion would be out of the question.
Her options would be limited, not that harming a baby is an option-

I believe that KY has no exceptions even for rape or incest.

What people chose to do on a vacation in Las Vegas, would be private. HIPAA. And what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas..

I hope there will always be a Vegas where things can happen that are no body’s business.
If young women do not have an out… it is insanity.

Do many 21 year olds have formal photos hoots with a relatively new boyfriend?
Only UK's beauty queens from another state's local fairs?

LS is 21 yrs old and not a 15 yr old teenager.

She knew she was pregnant , she went into labor and by not getting to a hospital or calling 911 then, or during labor or even after she delivered therefore she denied the baby medical attention it may have needed upon birth to survive.

Many premature babies born at 6 months survive today with all the medical advances available.

Maybe you have a link?
I don't have time to find a link right now but it's pretty obvious from the photo of her dad holding her hand and her mom behind them at her first court hearing.

Abortion is illegal in Kentucky EVEN FOR rape and incest. The only exception is to save the life of the mother.

The Bluegrass State bans abortions except when carried out to save a mother’s life. Efforts to add exceptions for cases of rape or incest or when pregnancies are nonviable have made no headway in Kentucky’s Republican-supermajority legislature.

I don't think LS wanted an abortion, fwiw. I think she was aware of the pregnancy and was accepting of it...until the birth happened. speculation. imo

Do we know when she and Connor broke up? And who broke up with who? And why?

Maybe you have a link?
I am not OP, but LS is living with her parents while on bail, so in a very literal sense, they are supporting her by providing room and board. I am assuming, though don't know for a fact, they provided the bail money.

Snelling was released Tuesday on $100,000 bond, according to court documents shared with NBC News. The court documents say she was placed on house arrest at her parents' home in Jefferson City, Tennessee, roughly 200 miles from where she was arrested in Kentucky.

Did they break up?

Upthread I posted about an ex-bf providing DNA but he was the bf before Connor.

Right now she is not facing murder charges but other charges like not reporting a birth and abuse of a corpse. This is another reason I'm thinking the baby came too soon and arrived in a condition beyond her abilities to handle. speculation.

I am going to sound harsh but she is 21 not 12, 15 or 16; she is a university student so she is not stupid so why not seek medical attention or terminate the pregnancy if she didn’t want the baby?

It has become much harder to terminate a pregnancy in this country.
