KY-Laken Snelling, 21, arrested after giving birth and infant was found in closet

  • #141
I wonder where she spent the summer. Was she living at home? She looks to be in her first trimester in the June photo shoot. If she did live at home, surely her parents/siblings would have noticed her growing belly?

I also wonder if she was a still member of the stunt squad when school started Aug 25. Wouldn’t she have dropped out during the summer if she knew she was pregnant?

And what were her plans for a birth during the Fall semester? If she knew she was pregnant, wouldn’t she have taken her senior year off?

Did she have any OBGYN care?

It’s all so strange.

No one restricted her to remain in Kentucky.
imo
this is not me defending laken since what she did to the infant was cruel and she should've chosen a different route instead of murder, but again. abortion is fully banned in kentucky, even in cases of rape or incest (from what I googled, the only exception put into place is if the pregnant person is at risk). she would have to have driven to either ohio, illinois or virginia to get an abortion since those states kept abortion legal, and from what i googled (at least in ohio) its 115 miles to get to an abortion clinic from lexington (an hr 20) but in illinois, the closest one from lexington KY would be five hours to even get there.
I'd also assume her parents are conservative and that they were funding her education. they probably wouldve freaked the hell out if they found out their daughter became knocked up or even got an abortion. Kentucky is very religious and with a full abortion ban, she probably killed the infant since she didn't want her name to be on records that indicate she gave up a baby for adoption.
Now, do i think she could've dropped the baby off to a police station or local fire station and she shouldn't have killed the infant, and that's just cruel for killing an infant. But, I fear that this is going to be a reality if abortions are fully banned within the United States where people would end up having either illegal abortions or killing their babies.

Did her boyfriend ever have any knowledge on the pregnancy?

I'm not assuming she wanted an abortion. Maybe she didn't want this pregnancy or maybe she was okay with the pregnancy. The core question, imo, is what happening regarding that delivery at home.

Also, she is not (yet?) charged with murder so not ready to state yet "she should've have killed the infant." We don't know (yet) if she did kill the baby.

She is charged with not reporting a birth and abuse of a corpse.

I didn't say she should've killed the infant (if that's what you meant) what I meant was that she did have other options, such as a police station or fire station and she shouldn't have went through with killing an infant.
as for the delivery, she probably did it in a way most home births are done without midwives, which is getting into a bathtub and birthing the baby there since its pretty easy to wash off the evidence and easier to get rid of the placenta.

I browsed through some of her fb pictures and she looks sad in many of them. The teeth are smiling but the eyes are not. I wonder what her upbringing was like.

I watched one of the videos on her socials, and you do have a point. She doesn't look happy in the slightest. In some photos you can see a small bump, but I think not many people caught on due to the camera angle and lighting.

In this image its more obvious that she was pregnant, but i guess some classmates may have brushed it off as weight gain. she looks around 16-20 weeks pregnant in this judging by the angle and from observation, along with some images I searched up on pregnancy trimesters.
thats another question i have: How come none of her classmates suspected that she was pregnant at all?

BBM. This is quite the assumption. Perhaps my mother is the only person who has had their phone bounce halfway across the room when she dropped to her knees in pain, no way to retrieve it. But being as there is no report of the actual circumstances leading up to the discovery in this case,, I could not possibly say if she wanted help and was unable to get it, or thought she had it covered but didn't, or didn't want help at all. I know my mom sure wanted help, laying on the floor in agony with her phone under the table and out of her reach. Broke her hip and shattered her arm.

I just cannot judge without actual facts.
No matter how may "what ifs" any of us can come up with the bottom line is she didn't want any medical help for herself or her baby throughout her labor and after he was born.
She obviously was able to clean up and put the deceased baby in the garbage bag along with whatever she cleaned up.

Maybe she threw her phone in the bag which is why she didn't then call 911?

Oh, I know you didn't think she should've killed the baby! No worries. :)

But, I think there are assumptions in this case without evidence. (I include myself in that category, btw).

We know there was a delivery and a deceased baby in the closet, but we really don't know much else.

We don't know if this was an unwanted pregnancy, we don't know if she ever wanted to terminate the pregnancy, if the delivery happened as a surprise or not, if the baby was full term, if the baby was alive/viable, if the current boyfriend is the father, etc. (fwiw, I don't think he is the father, and that is an assumption!)

Apparently, her friends were the ones who found the baby.

snipped

Is that true? I haven't read any commentary from classmates one way or the other, but I could've missed something.

We don't know what anyone knew but it appears to me it was an "open secret".
Even her coach (s) couldn't legally question her being pregnant and ask for a doctor's clearance for her to continue doing her stunts,
The legal bind the university was in was posted a few days ago and the lawsuits involved that gave her carte-blanche.

It wasn't a dorm-room closet:

Snelling was arrested last week after police said they found a baby’s body inside a closet following a call for an unresponsive infant at a home on Park Avenue in Lexington.

He doesnt seem to suspect her in the photos, at least that was what I could read from the photos.

Not a dorm, she was living in a house with roommates.

We all have our own interpretation, I suppose, but the photo shoot on tiktok looks like a maternity photo session to me. But maybe he didn't notice the bump while hugging her belly. idk
