‘Fetal movement’? What an odd thing to say. IMO

Sad to hear this. Wonder if she flatly denied pregnancy to the people around her, and they suspected and that's why they did the check after the noises. A shame they weren't close enough to find out the truth sooner but I suspect she pushed back and hard.

I always start by wanting to hear more about the mother in these cases. I truly believe so many suffer with pregnancy related psychological conditions that impact their reactions.

But here.... Poor baby.

So it seems she did indeed hide the pregnancy (and delivery). I had suspected she didn't hide it. The photos of her show an obvious baby bump, imo, and I find it odd others didn't notice, but apparently they didn't.

It's very sad to hear she delivered on her own and then lied about the noise her roommates heard.

Of course, the worst sadness is the baby was killed, but it is sad that someone went through pregnancy and delivery alone without any support. I was thrilled to be pregnant and had lots of support, and it was still difficult - sad to think a young woman chose to go it alone with added the burden of hiding it - and while performing with the Stunt team and having a boyfriend! And yes, again, the saddest part is the baby didn't survive.

If only she made ONE different decision at any step of the way, that little boy would be alive and she wouldn't be facing criminal charges. (Or if someone had said, "Hey, you're pregnant - you need to take that seriously.")

This case went from baffling to bleak now that we know more, imo.

Replying a second time to you! :)

Regarding the noise - she texted in a group text that she didn't feel well. I'm assuming the noise was the baby, though it could be sounds she made during labor, or both.

I wonder if her roommates were suspicious and looked around her room after she left that morning. The baby was found in the closet - was that a random discovery or did roommate(s) specifically investigate the noise because they suspected LS lied?

well it's worse than I was hoping
but not surprising ... sigh ... poor baby boy

The baby had shown “a little bit of fetal movement” and made a “whimper,” she allegedly told staff at the University of Kentucky Labor and Delivery unit, adding she “guessed” he was alive at birth, according to court records obtained by the student-run University of Kentucky outlet the Kentucky Kernel.

An answer to my question:

Police were called by her roommate, who, after hearing suspicious noises in the middle of the night, snooped into Snelling’s room after she had left for class and discovered the newborn.....The roommates did not know Snelling was pregnant — though one told cops they were suspicious that their friend had been hiding a pregnancy.

Does anyone know where she is from? I thought I heard them say on the news that her parents lived in Florida. That doesn't make sense unless they have a retirement home there.

She also was a stunt cheerleader whatever that is. It sounds dangerous for a pregnant woman.

UK has a pretty respectable cheerleading program.
I don't understand how UK cheerleaders' coaches could have missed this unless she wasn't performing due to an injury.

Some of those stunts they do is incredible.

Snipped by me

the saddest part is the baby didn't survive.
Baby didn't survive because LS CHOSE to do absolutely naff all about her pregnancy, about the life she had created, a life her SM accounts seemed to indicate she wanted. She did naff all when she went into labour knowing this little life was on its way, she did naff all when the baby was born to ensure he survived, in fact she lay down with him until he had expired then shoved him in a cupboard 😞

Sorry but I have absolutely zero sympathy for her, she had choices and these were hers! Baby didn't have any choices, she failed him catastrophically!

This didn't just happen overnight, she had over 8 months to contemplate what might happen that day. Selfish is one of the words that springs to mind

IMO JMO of course

I understand coaches aren't permitted to make comments about a young ladies' physique due to a law suit happening when one coach did ask about a possible pregnancy. One of the WS'ers will know for sure !

They said on the news (a lawyer) that she may have skipped the preliminary hearing because she didn't want all the scrutiny. Grand Jury testimony is sealed and private.

The other thing is the evidence may be so damning that either she or in cahoots with the lawyer they decided to go straight to the Grand Jury hoping that perhaps they will not indite her to due to evidence that we don't know.

It makes sense because for most people they go straight to blaming her and making assumptions. What if this was a rape and she was trying to keep the pregnancy a secret? Lots of ?????

I will say that the Herald Leader has a policy of not revealing the name of a victim of rape. EXCEPT for a UK basketball player who was accused of rape. They through that policy aside and named the woman. You can imagine the uproar and the harassment.

The basketball player went on with his life, I'm pretty sure he was hoping to be taken in the NBA draft.

People in this town idolize UK Basketball players. Seriously, I wore a U of L jacket ONE time in public. The backlash I got was ridiculously stupid.

Yes, of course. I assumed we all realized that.

I feel sadness and anger at the same time.

I find it horrifying for both the mother and the baby and I am not excusing the behavior but trying to understand it.

I too, @Inthedetails am angry and sad at the same time.

But I would like to point out that most likely she didn't make this baby alone. Perhaps the "father" doesn't know so I can't condemn him for not being supportive.

There are no winners here. If she did maliciously kill her baby she deserves punishment of the worst kind. If it was a tragic accident she still deserves punishment.

And for some weird reason I'm hearing about babies being found dead in places in the local news viewing area a lot more than I've ever seen before. I can only recall one baby being deposited in a baby box. It makes me wonder if the abortion ban is causing it.

IMO.
Also IMO abortion is NOT birth control.

She was released Tuesday on a $100,000 bond and placed on house arrest at her parents’ home in Jefferson City, Tennessee, roughly 200 miles from where she was arrested in Kentucky…

I dont get it. She was aware she was pregnant, she did not even try very hard to conceal her bump. She knew she was giving birth. It was not one of those pregnancies that go unnoticed or where the woman is in denial.
Even if she was the selfish influencer media personality she presented as, actually a pregnancy would have given her ample opportunities to create more content; unplanned pregnancy, dealing with pregnancy symptoms, showing off cute maternity clothes, ultrasound pics, throwing a bombastic baby shower and gender reveal party. Then all the content one can create with a cute baby boy: baby clothes, toys, cake smash parties etc. Plus she could have showed how to get back in shape after pregnancy.
So, it is not that a pregnancy would have harmed her “career”.
Her boyfriend apparently had no idea she was pregnant.
Unless she lived in some fundamentalist Christian bubble where out of wedlock pregnancy would have been frowned upon, I do not see any reason why she acted the way she did.
Maybe some mental issue/postpartum psychosis?

JMOO of course

‘Fetal movement’? What an odd thing to say. IMO

that seems to be the reporter's wording since it's not in quotes
That wording is used in several of the posted articles. It was quoted by Laken to the health care providers at the hospital. Also noted in several articles Laken looked up and deleted information about pregnancy, hidden pregnancy, labor & birth. Also selfies taken while she was in labor were deleted. IMO she was preparing herself to answer questions. It was absolutely an odd thing to say about a baby who was at or near term and once born was no longer a fetus but a baby/infant/newborn.

I worked OB, Post Partum, Labor & Delivery for 5 years (a lifetime ago) and honestly never heard a pregnant or postpartum lady refer to her newborn baby as a fetus. Not saying it hasn’t happened, I just never heard it and if I did (in this context) it would’ve been one of those things that makes you go hmmm

Unless I'm getting confused I'm sure there was some sort of photo shoot Laken posted of her and her boyfriend with a lot of maternity style poses? Did I imagine this? JMO.

No you didn’t imagine it. I’m sure he was there with hand on her belly. I wonder if he found out he wasn’t the father and they were deleted?
