GUILTY KY - Larry, 60, & Sandra Blanton, 53, Oil Springs, Sept 2012

  • #61
OIL SPRINGS, Ky. (WYMT) - Larry and Sandara Blanton have been missing for several weeks, and now the Johnson County Sheriff says he is fearing the worst.

Police say it does not look good.

No money has been spent. No cell phones have been used. There are no signs of them anywhere.

Larry and Sandara Blanton have literally disappeared, and police have decided it is time to bring in cadaver dogs to search the couple's farm in Oil Springs.

"These people's been missing almost a month now, and there's a lot of speculation that there was some dozer work done," said Johnson County Sheriff Dwayne Price.

Dozer work done, they say, by the Blantons' son Willie who has been named a person of interest in the case along with his girlfriend Amanda Fannin.

Willie told WYMT earlier this week he knows people are accusing him of being involved. Friday he said it has not changed.

"They think it. I mean I haven't had the first person that's come here and asked how the family's doing or anything," he said.

Willie's girlfriend says the thought is hard to bear.

"I damn sure don't want to think that my boyfriend's a murderer, so I just kind of put that in the back of my head and hope the law finds them," she said.

Police say the Blantons own about 50 acres. They say that makes searching all of it quite a chore, but Willie says he will be there every step of the way.

"It's been real hard not knowing anything. I mean if something has happened, no closure," said Willie.

The sheriff says at this point anything could happen.

"I hope I'm wrong with this theory. I'd like to see them show up tomorrow, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see," said Price.

It is a hopeful thought that many in this tiny community hope becomes reality.

They will use four dogs to search the property on Sunday.

Anyone with information about the Blantons should contact the Johnson County Sheriff's Department

Their story...at the 12 min mark in the video is enlightening and the gf's reactions are telling. If drugs aren't involved, I'll be totally surprised. (Check the previous story out about a Chinese restaurant being closed down..harvesting and serving road kill! Found the deer inside the kitchen)

This case will be a cultural learning experience for many, imo. Your talking back woods mountain living. This is forgotten America. I can guarantee any NY or LA street 🤬🤬🤬🤬 would be looking over their shoulder if plopped down in this environment...and rightly so.

Oh good grief! That roadkill article freaked me out. Glad I'm a vegetarian!

For some reason, I couldn't get the video to display...but I read the girlfriend's comments and they were....um, um...."flavorful." Definitely not the response you would see everyday.
I'm hoping the dogs get there on Sunday and are able to find something. Wonder if these are cadaver dogs or just scent dogs?

I'm sure cadaver.

It works it is just a VERY strange format, imo. I've never seen one like it. You have to wait for the commericals...about 3, and then manually skip to the 12 min mark for the story. It's like they have their evening news broadcast on there....including the weather and all the commericals. ???

45min from Grayson here :seeya: hi neighbors :)
- big pill problem in Grayson from what I hear.
Roughly 70 miles from Oil Springs, only been as far as Louisa in that area...

The one interview I saw of the son gave me pause, he came across as immature, childlike or something to me? Somebody help me find the appropriate description...or am I misinterpreting that one interview?

I agree, murdering parents, how? But I'm also saying this based on my experiences with a not perfect, but overall positive family life. People live and experience things I'm sure I can't begin to imagine... :(

Quoting myself here.... And changed my mind :D

After finally being able to view the video linked below, seems the sons's polished his interviewing skills. As for the girlfriend, prefer not to comment.

I don't think this is going to turn out well.... Lots of property to search.

Wonder how close their nearest neighbor? My friends family (in another state) has 100 acres, and they have one neighbor very close - they can see the house and hear their dog, the other side not sure where they are, lol. The back side, look out for hunters. :what:

And all that property to search is well known by the son who played and hunted....every inch of it. imo

I found thru..Find Your Neighbor....the majority of the neighbors on their road are named Blanton. Very common in the mountains of Appalachia. Much of that land was probably owned by their ancestors going back to the Civil War times.

JMO, that area has been depressed for decades and moonshine has been replaced by growing/harvesting pot. Not saying they were doing this, but it doesn't look like a working farm from what I have seen. Would be curious in what crop they were planting on that farm or what kind of animals, etc. Taking another look at the map..........

The parents ran a businesses from their home. Looks like Sandra commented on the one complaining about the site.

Sorry, I had to laugh at the "back woods mountain living, and forgotten America. I have lived in the city, the suburbs and now live in the middle of where the Hatfields and McCoy's had their feud. While there are very poor people in the hills, there are also VERY VERY rich folks, too. It is my belief that every city has bad neighborhooods, that is true in Eastern Kentucky. Please don't label every person who lives in Eastern Kentucky-backwoods, that is absolutely not true. As for the street thugs-why do you think they would need to look over their shoulder?

I meant no disrespect, and know that some of the farmers and transplants are very rich in that area, but I don't think this family falls into that catagory or neighborhood.

It's a struggle for many in that area and some would still give you their only shirt off their backs, but the mind set..rich or poor is different. They take care of their own...good or bad....family or foe. Never would I want to be on their bad side. Street ****s just shoot you.... mountain people don't.

This case earlier this year was just because the couple defriended their daughter on FB. Just realized that I need to update with lastest article...becaue the mother (62) was involved also in the cover up.

I understand completely, and wasn't offended!! There are VERY poor people here, I believe the poverty started wayyyy back when Lyndon B. Johnson made a trip to Eastern Kentucky, to wage the war on poverty. I believe he started a generation that became dependent on the government to care for them...and it just keeps going..and it IS heartbreaking.

And families here -DO stand up for their family. Right or wrong. And yep, we wouldn't shoot you, we would make you wonder what we would do, and even worse, when we might do it. And thats just my family, and we are pretty much drug free! Except for my Dad who is pretty ill.

Sadly, I couldn't get your link to work-but I will go right over there and read about it. It sounds like another heartbreaking case. :(

I just found her blog too, and realized I had been watching one of her videos from a few days ago where she and and a young boy were hiking. OMG. I felt like I knew her. If the son did this WTH was he thinking!!!!??????

ETA: The young boy was her grandson and the POI's son. :thud:

And they started a saw mill................DYNA TECH BANDSAW - YouTube

You know hollyblue, I have only had an hours sleep-because I needed to study for midterms last night. And it hasn't been a real great day..lol

First thing i saw on wymt-roadkill at the restaurant
Second -The girlfriend (I have to really think about this before I post :( )/ OHHH and I almost forgot the backhoe work...(lordy)
Third---The GRANDSON-WILLIE'S SON---OK--WTH and.WHY are we just NOW finding out about him and MOST importantly WHERE IS HE? :banghead:

And now---A sawmill. My mind is racing...and ALL these days-when he knew they wrere coming to search...

I REALLY feel sick to my stomach.

You know, it's entirely possible that the son had nothing to do with this. I don't get the impression he's lying, he seems really laid back to me. Same with his girlfriend. Maybe her response isn't quite what we would say, but I am positive some of that interview was edited. Media has a way with leaving out a lot, and just putting a short clip in that looks and sounds incriminating. Since the sheriff has voiced his concerns regarding the son being a POI, then the media is going to play that up, they are not going to go to any lengths to make the son and girlfriend look innocent, I can guarantee you that. The media thinks the public are all stupid and uninformed, so we get just enough to set our hinky meters off and they just let it play out. Happens every time.

No offense, but you really need more sleep. LOL... your imagination is running away with you.
I didn't see much of the young man in this video, but I would imagine he hasn't been mentioned because he doesn't play any kind of part in this investigation. He looks to be maybe 14? Just guessing.

Honors students don't rest during midterms, but thanks for caring!! :)

As for my imagination running wild, I hope thats all it is. Then Larry and Ssndra will be alive. I guess you buy into Willie's story of the "rental car" that doesn't exist, the vacation to Florida, AND the camping trip.

Well, by reading her blog all day.....if Ginger is still around the property, then they are GONE. There is no way that woman would have left that little dog!!! SO....is Ginger at home??? IMO

Police search for missing couple

A team of rescue and cadaver dogs searched the property of missing couple Larry and Sandra Blanton.

[snip]

They searched all morning and the girlfriend of their son, a person of interest in the case, said they're happy to have them there.

[snip]

Officials say the investigation will continue with a polygraph test for their son William Blanton and his girlfriend.
