IN - IN- Donald Westfall Jr., 40, Spencer County, 26 June 2018

I'm thinking these might be Donald's remains. Not only do the descriptors match but the UID was wearing an Under Armour sweatshirt. Donald's wearing a UA hat in his profile pic. Hat vs shirt--I know, but the brand name being the same makes me hopeful. Donald went missing fom IN but only about 2 hours away from Louisville where these remains were found in Louisville, KY. His truck was located in IN.

Perhaps I should submit this to NamUs. Your thoughts?

My first thought was the PMI...Donald’s date of last contact was June 26 and the UID was discovered on July 15 (about 3 weeks later) and almost completely skeletal. Would that be enough time? I honestly don’t know?

Everything else seems to match up though! The UID’s race is listed as “multiple”; white/Caucasian & ‘uncertain’... I’m also curious as to what that means.

Two exclusions:

MP52204 Steven Bartley 03/15/2018 Jefferson KY
MP42023 Austin Gamez 12/25/2017 Jefferson KY

Namus says weight is "cannot estimate" but the clothing sizes are for a fairly large man.

Namus says estimated year of death is 2018, so I think Westfall is a good candidate.

I agree. It seems the dates are almost too close to be complete or nearly complete skeletal. On the other hand, given some of the discrepancies we come across on some NamUs profiles, I don't know that I always trust these descriptions. Given all the other potentially matching descriptive factors I kind of think that may be an entry error, oversight <modsnip>

The race issue I wonder if they meant "we think he's white but we're not certain" vs. "He's white and something but we're not sure". More clarity would have been nice. ;)

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't noticed. From Donald's profile:

I believe these two news articles are referring to these remains. Besides a physical address there's no new info, unfortunately.

LMPD investigating after human remains found in Valley Station

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A death investigation is underway after human remains were found in Valley Station on Sunday.

According to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell, officers were sent to the 8900 block of Third Street Road to speak with someone who reported finding human skeletal remains nearby.

Snip

Mitchell said the remains showed no obvious signs of trauma and due to the decomposition, the sex of the victim was unable to be determined

Father and son stumble upon skeleton in Pleasure Ridge Park

LOUISVILLE COURIER JOURNAL
Updated 9:10 a.m. CDT July 16, 2018

A father and son who were going fishing in Pleasure Ridge Park on Sunday found human remains.

Snip

...found skeletal remains in a thick, wooded area in the 9300 block of 3rd Street Road, not too far from a pond

ETA-
Are these the same remains? I just noticed the different street numbers in these articles.
8900 block of Third Street Road vs. 9300 block of 3rd Street Road

I think you’re right @YaYa_521 ! Unless two sets of remains were found on the 15th, it’s got to be the same ones! Thank you for the links!

@ClaireNC @GJKJR :)

Oh yes, this case! Thanks for telling! I was looking over my newer ones for the map and found this article last night. A lot more specific on the location, thankfully.

Looking at the wording, and possibly reading too much into it, I think the first address is where LE met the person who had found the remains "nearby", and the second address is "nearby" where the remains actually were.

ETA: map of the area. Pond is on lower left. Google Maps

I think you nailed that! Good thinking, it makes perfect sense. Ty!

*puts on pointy hat*

I'd further hazard a guess that the reason why they called from several blocks away was the they parked their car in the church parking lot and walked back along Pond Creek doing their fishing thing--and when they found the remains, had to go back to their car for their phones. Many fishermen and hikers don't carry their phones because the odds of ruining it in the wet are way higher than the odds of needing to use it while fishing.

ADMIN NOTE:

Some posts have been removed.

Even if we think we know, Websleuths does not allow a UID to be publicly identified on the thread unless/until there is official confirmation via LE, the coroner, or NAMUS.

If a family member read here that their loved one was identified as the deceased, that would be absolutely horrendous to stumble across on a public forum if they have not been officially notified.

Any questions in this regard, please private message a Mod or Admin, but do not discuss on the thread.

Thanks.

I can't access the Namus profile so it does appear he has been identified (or that's my assumption). I do hope additional information is available soon!
