BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police investigators are searching for the person that shot and killed a Lee County woman Monday night.

The Lee County Coroner pronounced Patricia C. Lutes, 36, of Beattyville, dead at the scene.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. along Highway 2016, north of Beattyville.

Police say a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot and found Lutes in the road, next to her mailbox.

"She really didn't deserve what happened," said Talmadge Allen, a family friend and neighbor to Lutes.

Investigators blocked the highway in both directions in front of the house on the 8500 block of Highway 2016 while they searched for clues.
