Hubers' sentencing, domestic abuse hearing delayed

NEWPORT – Shayna Hubers will wait at least another week before finding out how long she will spend in prison for killing her boyfriend.

A hearing set for Monday to determine whether Hubers, 24, was a victim of domestic violence or abuse and a sentencing set for Wednesday have been canceled, a court official said.

One of the attorneys involved in the case had a "family emergency," the court official said in an email.

The hearings, in Campbell County Circuit Court, are expected to be rescheduled for the week of June 22.

Wow, I only found out about her a while ago... Sounds just as narcissistic as Jodi Arias (or I gather, many murderers).

I'm confused, she took a life, and is totally self-centered (I would say she would be ongoing threat to society). Why didn't she get life? If you take a life in this fashion (she premeditated, continually harassed him, and continues to act remorseless), why in the world do they let you out of prison at all?

That's it, no more, I don't want her walking around. That boy did nothing but live his life, his parents did not birth and raise him to be removed from life by some conceited freak who only goes away to prison for any temporary amount of time!

Ugh, our system is not wired appropriately. Did her hideous looks have anything to do with lesser term (I'm sorry but she looks childishly obnoxious and sociopathic to me; prior to her face paint applications)?

It is true that our system is seriously broken, to the point where I now consider it a huge victory just getting a conviction. Sentencing is often a joke; it would make more sense if 40 years actually meant 40 years instead of maybe a dozen years and then early release. I don't mind early release after 60 years if a person is sentenced to 90 but young convicts like Shayna need to be locked away until they are very very old. Society needs to be kept safe and letting criminals like Shayna out early puts society at risk once again.

Early parole hearing possible for Shayna Hubers

Testimony is expected to begin today in Campbell County Circuit Court about whether Hubers was a victim of domestic violence or abuse during her year-long relationship with Ryan Poston. A sentence also could be handed down today..."

I cannot understand how any judge could listen to this immature sociopath and give her anything less than the 40 years recommended by the jury. He can give her MORE and he should. She has not learned anything from this murder and her stay in jail. She believes she is entitled to go free because she got her feelings hurt, A man is dead FOREVER and she wants to walk in six years? Please

So, the saga continues again tomorrow. I hope it ends there as well, with this psychopath sentenced to no less than the 40 years recommended by the jury.

I will admit to having taken some satisfaction in the idea of her sentence being significantly less because of how it would enrage that other psychopath incarcerated for the rest of her natural life in Perryville. But I must say that even though I would grin big at knowing how much Arias would be fuming...that would be temporary and then gone, with Mr. Poston's loved ones in agony over his killer getting such leniency. With that, I give up my right to feel gleeful over the thought of Arias throwing a hissy fit. Hubers needs to pay for what she did to Ryan, period.

Oh, I hadn't thought of the possibility of hissing off JA but, nah, it wouldn't be worth it. I also want to see hubers pay for what she did. In fact I hope the sentence is increased.

And thank goodness the judge didn't buy her claim that they were an "unmarried couple".

Judge can increase or reduce Jury recommendation in Hubers murder case. Not a death penalty case, however

She admitted on the stand that she had possibly slept with 10 other guys during the time she was supposed to be living with Ryan. That says a lot right there!

I hope he increases the sentence. Forty years is a long time but not long enough. Her crime was vicious and brutal and she has never shown any remorse, only regret that things didn't go her way.

Anyone who cannot express remorse when they do wrong should get no leniency, especially if they blame the victim.

I totally agree with you krkrjx. But I want the judge to give her LWOP, but he won't do that. She would probably appeal and win if he did. But at least give her 60 years. She murdered that man in premeditated cold blood. She shot until he died. She even admitted it to the 911 operator. She wasn't doing it in self defense, she wanted to make sure he would not EVER date Miss Ohia
