Kyron's Parents in Touch with Oprah

  • #41
I think they should do anything and everything to stay in the daily news. The more exposure the better! The more people dislike them the more interest there will be. The more interest, the more focus, continual discussions... more aware people.... could lead to finding Kyron with some strange man like Shawn Hornbeck was ... or someone could remember something.

Exactly...if they did take money (which I feel along with many on here they would be entitled to to help defray their expenses) but if they did receive ANY compensation a lot of people would have issues with it...ala the Anthony's selling family pics to help with whatever. I feel like KH and DY are danged if they do and danged if they don't! :banghead:

But, that's different.

The thought is that Oprah does not pay for *interviews* but rather pays for photographs, etc. This allows shows like Dateline, Oprah, etc. to state they don't pay for interviews, did not pay for the interview, when it is simply a play with words. That's what I've heard anyway.

Like I always say, there's more than one way to skin a cat. More than two, too!

(IMHO)

I just don't think this is going to be in their best interest. The nation is aware of Kyron missing. Will going on Oprah help?

I seriously doubt that if someone is holding Kyron, they're gonna be sitting down to watch Oprah, and suddenly go "Oh, maybe I'll come forward now, cause they're talking about it on OPRAH!".

I just get the feeling that it will be more airing of dirty laundry...which isn't in anyones bests interests. More stupid questions like "how does it feel to have your child missing for so long? Tell us a little bit about that".

Why can't O do a short segment about Kyron, without them being there, if she truely cares about this missing child? Show his photo, explain the known details, and plea for anyone to come forward.

(Some of us here have emailed oprah about missing child cases and they always go ignored, because they don't have any 'sensational' aspects)

I think they need to take a breather, keep getting those hugs and support, and realise that Oprah is after ratings, not their best interests.

gotcha...thanks. That would explain why the reporter *apologized* for the confusion. He probably didn't want to p*ss O's people off by letting the real deal slip. :::eyeroll:::

No one messes with Oprah. God bless him, he knows that.

Sharon Rocha would be my PR model if I were involved. It's a fine line, she did it very well. Situation is different.

Okay, how can they suffer any worse? They have been on t.v. every single day for a month. (No cable just ABC, NBC, CBS here.)

Not the point.

Why turn down Oprah? Dear lord! Why the idea that Oprah does not pay for interviews? I just don't know, I am asking for some help here on this.

I meant nasty remarks (if they were to accept payment) from people on other websites might hurt them even further, not that they shouldn't go on the show. I definitely think they should. Oprah is great exposure for Kyron and she does a good job with these types of interviews, too.

And just for the record, I don't have any problem with their accepting payment directly into their own pockets if they want to do it...was just saying it was nice (after the Anthony family) to see a family who didn't give a whit about money, only their little boy.

I could understand perhaps why they didn't want to take payment. Sorry if I wasn't clear (if you were even talking to me? LOL)

To be totally honest, I am concerned that this family is open to Oprah and People magazine (which is published only ONCE a week) and Oprah is on summer sabatical and does NOT do any NEW shows until NEXT month.

This family DOES DO PRESS FOR PEOPLE MAGAZINE, but NOT local radio stations! I live here locally and they seem to want to do one-on-ones with TV stations and the radio stations are left out. OKAY.... if my kid is missing, I want EVERYONE to know about what is going on, but to leave out KXL radio (the #1 radio station in Portland - and no, I do not KNOW anyone at the station, but wonder why they will NOT do an interview there, but they have done COUNTLESS interviews at People Magazine, which is national, but only ONCE a week here locally...........................

IMO, I do not suspect biological family...........................

Perhaps they haven't been asked to do radio? I don't know, just guessing.

Have KH and DY been in touch with, say, the Klass Foundation,or Tim Miller ? People who actually have experience in helping families find their missing loved ones ? Just a thought....

Kaine and Desiree released TONS of photos to the media as soon as Kyron went missing. I have never heard anything about them being compensated for that. If anyone knows that they have been I would appreciate it if you could provide a link to verify that info. I can't imagine that they have been holding out for an 'Oprah exclusive' but I could be wrong. As far as I know, Oprah's policy is that she NEVER pays for interviews. She provides transportation and accommodations but there is no money for the interview, no matter who it is, AFAIK.

I hate the idea of going on Oprah for them, personally...and I don't see how it helps. I think local LE is right in saying that this is a local crime and the answer is local as well. And K&D have made it pretty clear they believe Terri is guilty, so how would being on national TV help?

It is just "icky" to me...sorry. Oprah only thinks about ratings and she was very callous to the Goldmans some years back, in order to make for better TV. D&K's story likely appeals to her or her producers for the scandalous parts.

The Sund-Carrington Foundation helped Sharon. They are the best (imho).

Nightline, no pay. A difference between news and entertainment. Oprah and Dateline are more toward entertainment, not putting them down. Just different demographics, time slots.

...I agree...I think they are ''too vulnerable'' at this time and the investigation is at a pretty precarious juncture...I am not that confident an appearance would best serve Kyron's cause at this time.

I really, really think that KH should 'lay low' and focus on Kyron (which he is) and that, as others have stated, Oprah is for ratings. DY can go on O and say all she wants-but KH has more at stake-specifically a divorce that he still has to get through. I highly doubt that if he goes on Oprah the conversation will focus on Kyron and instead will get 'tunneled' into a "my wife disappeared my son story" with of course the requisite "we tried to get TH to come, but she declined to be interviewed statement". If she isn't arrested/a poi/ a suspect (officially) by the time the divorce and all its issues are dealt with-wouldn't this constant maligning of her character (whether well deserved or not) end up hurting his case-especially is such a public/national manner?

Snarky me says: "Great, what's next Dr. Phil: Family in Crisis...Did the Stepmom do it?" With of course, advice on how to handle TH and her issues.

Question: I do believe that getting the word out about Kyron is a great thing, and must be done. However, I wonder if the constant focus on TH might be causing the general public to be less aware. People are expecting TH to have taken him and to know where he is...therefore would they be as vigilant as they would be if they didn't think TH was involved? Could the constant focus on TH as a suspect (by the media) be causing tunnel vision for the public?

On the other hand, if the parents believe (or want badly to believe) that Kyron is still alive, then even if the initial crime was local, Kyron could be anywhere worldwide by this point. So from their perspective, that might be a good way to get some national/international coverage for Kyron.

I agree Oprah is in it for ratings, but it could be a win-win situation for all of them. If nothing else, at least it might help KH & DY to feel they're doing everything within their power to find Kyron, and I'm sure that's important to them.

Unfortunately, we don't have any way to know. Maybe that would be a good idea to send to one of the reporters as a question to ask?

They do have an FBI team there, though, in addition to the many other local and non-local agencies. They are awesome at what they do, IMO. Also, the FBI is surely aware of these organizations and may have passed some resource information along to the parents.

I would love to see TES involved!
