Brown, the cousin of Elkins' wife, recalled how Elkins recently took the kids to church.

"And they were dressed so cute. All dressed alike," Brown said. "The Pugh family is a happy family. A joyous family. I’m not sure what happened ... I’m asking the nation for prayer. For the kids and the Elkins family.”

Shreveport officials have described the shooting on April 19 as domestic violence, saying Elkins shot the mother of his children and another woman, as well as his seven children and one of their cousins. Court records show Elkins married Shaneiqua Pugh in April 2024. Another woman, Christina Snow, sued Elkins for child support and was granted joint custody of their child, Sariahh, in 2017, court records show. Sariahh, 11, was among those killed in the shooting.

Elkins served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 2013 to 2020 as a signal system specialist and a fire support specialist, an Army official told USA TODAY. He never deployed. At the time of the shooting, he was working for the United Parcel Service, the company confirmed

Snow was shot in the face, according to her cousin. He said Snow’s mom told him that the bullet went through her nose and is still lodged in her face.

“Doctors say they didn’t want to do surgery and risk it,” he said.

Snow can talk, but she has memory issues, Jamarckus Snow said, recounting what his cousin’s mother has shared with him.

One day, she’ll remember they’re dead. I heard yesterday she woke up and was like, ‘I got to get my kids ready for school.’ She’ll lose memory of what happened,” he said. “One day, she’ll know, and the next day, she’s thinking her kids is still there

The deranged Army vet who savagely murdered his seven kids and nephew in Louisiana on Sunday once ominously warned his wife he would kill their entire family if she ever left him.

“I’ll kill you, my kids and myself,” Shamar Elkins, 31, hissed to his spouse, Shaneiqua Pugh, three years ago after she said she was considering filing for divorce, according to the killer’s adoptive mother, who witnessed the comment, to the New York Times

Shamar Elkins is typical of many mass killers. They are dangerous injustice collectors. There were many red flags with him.

WASHINGTON — A man who previously had the assault-style gun used to kill eight children in Louisiana told investigators he believes Shamar Elkins stole it from his truck in the weeks before the rampage in a Shreveport neighborhood, according to court documents released Tuesday.
Charles Ford told investigators he suspected Elkins, who was the father of seven of the children killed, because he was one of the few people to ride with him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Louisiana federal court. Ford allegedly said it was around March 9 when he noticed the gun was missing.

Ford said he confronted Elkins about the missing weapon. But when Elikns became “offensive," Ford "let it go," according to a court affidavit filed Tuesday.
The affidavit is in support of federal charges that accuse Ford of being a felon in possession of a firearm and making a false statement to federal agents. He originally denied having the gun when first approached by investigators after the shooting Sunday, according court records.
“Elkins’ death means that our community will never see him face justice,” U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller said in a statement. “Our hope, as we continue to investigate and prosecute this case alongside our law enforcement partners, is that holding the person whose gun Elkins used to perpetrate the crime accountable will give some small bit of solace to our Shreveport community.”

I would hope that Ford is now prosecuted for the illegal possession of a firearm. But of course because he was illegally possessing it, he didn't report it when it was stolen.

ETA corrected the name of the man who had the gun stolen by Elkins.

Thanks for posting this BayouBelle. I had seen this this morning as well. It is important to note that regardless of what Louisiana law says about felons and gun rights, under federal law it is illegal for any felon to possess a firearm. This needs to be more strictly enforced and I am happy to see these charges.

Billboards are going up across northwest Louisiana memorializing the 8 children killed by Shamar. Jayla's name got cut off.

Do we know who sponsored this ad? That is pretty pricey.
I asked Google. The Youth Peace and Justice Foundation asked for donations to put up the billboards. The Youth Peace and Justice Foundation was started after the Uvalde school shootings and has grown. They respond to crises nationwide. They are dedicated to ending the epidemic of violence
in its physical and cultural forms across the nation.

Thanks. Some follow up shows a lot of info on the organization/person behind this. Folks can make their own assessment I guess.
