The silence is deafening. I understand in high crime areas, witnesses don't usually seek out the police to give tips but this is a little girl! Someone has to know something!

Hey guys, let's not start speculating on family members. At this point police have given us no indication that anyone related is involved . If that changes then PM a mod, otherwise let's keep our posts within TOS and remember we are a victim friendly forum.
TIA

It is possible that the toothbrush was noticed missing when LE ASKED for it.
They will often ask for something containing DNA so they already have the DNA profile if a body is found.

So you report the child missing and the cop comes out... then asks for "a toothbrush or hairbrush"...
Then you go in the bathroom and realize the toothbrush and toothpaste are gone.

If the first thing you do in the morning is brush your teeth and you live in a one bathroom apartment, it's conceivable that you would notice a missing toothbrush in a toothbrush holder, especially if the toothpaste is missing. Idk, jmo

There is a RSO that lives on Max Dr....interesting since the WWL article says " Deputies have also focused their attention on Max Drive, the street just behind the apartment complex." (http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/JPSO-Six-year-old-Harvey-girl-goes-missing-215376901.html)

Also one on Destrehan near Ahlitta's complex.
Another one on Deerwood Dr. not far from Ahlitta's complex/Max Dr.
And as you pan out, many, many more RSOs.

RSO area info:

To find Ahlitta's neighborhood, you just need to find Destrehan and look south/below Hwy 90 (Lapalco Blvd). According to the news, the apartment complex she disappeared from was on Destrehan near Max Dr. so you can find the area that way (Max Dr. is a short street behind Destrehan Ave that runs parallel to it).

I grew up in Jefferson Parish (parishes are our county equivalents for those of you outside LA) albeit in a different town/neighborhood). The Woodmere neighborhood where she disappeared from has been tough as long as I can remember. About 13 years ago, my friend's boyfriend lived in that area. He worked at the local sno-ball stand. I'd go with my friend to visit him at work and pick him up from his home. Although the area looked "rough," there seemed (at that time years ago, anyway) to be a real sense of community. Kids were outside playing all over. Older kids and adults who were outside seemed to know everyone and look out for them. There were a lot of pedestrians. I don't know how it's changed over the years (especially since everything changed in many places after Katrina) but the community was tight knit & seemed to look out for one another. If it's still like that today, I am sure the neighborhood is actively looking for Ahlitta & trying to help.

Bumping my earlier post with a link to the map, and a picture of the woods across from the apartment.

Jefferson Parish authorities will continue search for missing 6-year-old through the night

Jefferson Parish mother awakes to find 6-year-old girl missing

http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/07/jefferson_parish_mother_wakes.html

The mother said she saw her child sleeping about 11 p.m. Friday, but when the mother awoke about 9 a.m. Saturday, she found that her front door was open, her child was missing and many of her daughter's personal belongings were gone, according to John Fortunato, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

and

While the Jefferson Sheriff's Office originally reported the missing child's name as Ahitta Hill, Fortunato said Saturday afternoon that the girl's name actually is Ahlitta North.

If "many" items were missing, it's possible that family members first noticed certain things missing- a blankey, toy, something of sentimental value- and went on a mad dash throughout the apartment to determine if anything else had gone missing too. Maybe they noticed the toothbrush because they were actively looking for things that were gone, after having realized other things were missing. That said, I'm still skeptical- the missing toothbrush and toothpaste feels staged, as if someone wants LE to think she left on her own, or that someone packed items of importance for her before taking her. I am unconvinced.

Also interesting, I'd assumed the media had just gotten Ahlitta's name wrong on the press. This article states that the error came from Jefferson Sheriff's Office. Who gave LE the wrong name to begin with? Surely not her own mother, or step-father? That's strange, given the statement Jefferson Sheriff's Office released on their FB page about the missing girl. This is the statement in which they identify her by the wrong name, and that Ahlitta's mom called them to report her missing. I can totally see LE accidentally misspelling her name, but totally getting her last name wrong? Wouldn't that be one of the first points of clarification when taking a missing person's report?

"She's loud, she likes to talk, she's very playful she's very friendly," says Janice Barnett, Ahlitta's aunt. "She's a good girl. I just ask that they don't hurt her. Just bring her back."

The concerning part for me though is burglary bars typically have a deadbolt lock that requires a key to unlock them. Was the key accessible? Was she familiar with unlocking them etc?
I lived in a house with similar bars on the doors, and we just left the key in the lock all the time. Not the safest idea, but probably not that uncommon either.

I wonder if there's a custody dispute involving the bio dad. We haven't heard anything about bio dad. Not trying to sleuth him (he hasn't been mentioned or named anyway at all...those of us who don't know the family don't who he is or if he's involved in Ahlitta's life). Just hoping she's with someone who will not harm her.

Smetimes there are misunderstandings on 911 calls if the dispatcher asks What's the last name and means the missing child's name but the caller misunderstands and thinks the dispatcher wants to clarify the caller's own name, perhaps if they've already said the child's name.

I am hoping this is a case of an adult accepting the word of a child. "Mom says it's ok if I go camping with you." And Ahlitta is out camping with some unsuspecting family that is going to be very embarrassed when they bring her home.

Would Ahlitta have left the door wide open though? And who goes camping at 11 at night?

this one puzzles me, for sure. so very strange.

At six, yes, I think that is a possibility. Especially if she was excited. It was actually the toothbrush, blanket, some belongings and the door left open that gave me hope.

I thought that her mom saw her at 11 pm, but Ahlitta was gone when her mom woke up. Do I have that wrong?

Has Ahlitta's mother been in the media yet?

I always get concerned when I read that a child's step-parent- in this case, step-father- was the first to notice the child is missing. While it's really early yet, this sort of brings to mind the Trenton Duckett case. Some of his belongings were missing too.

I find it difficult to imagine a little 6 y/o would be able to unlock the door, the burglary bars, etc (as step-dad referenced in one of the linked articles) and walk out into the night without either adult hearing anything or noticing. Is it possible some of the items, such as toothbrush, aren't really "missing", but were removed to make it look like something altogether different?

I am not accusing Ahlitta's parents of anything, but the first thing I thought of when I read this was the case of Aarone Thompson. Have there been any other photos of Ahlitta in the media besides the one?
