I am wondering if it was the same BL that has been arrested in this case, that rented the red Chevrolet Aveo. Here is why:

When you get a rental through your insurance, they put you in something that is similar to what you are already driving. He had a truck, so the minimum that his insurance would have put him in is a Mid Size car, like a Malibu.

Another reason that I have some doubt that it was the BL that was arrested, that rented the Aveo is because there are multiple persons with the name Brandon Lavergne, living in the greater Houston area. We have already seen some confusion in identifying someone else as BL, that has the same name.

JMO, of course.

This is my first post but I've been lurking for quite sometime. This case really hit close to home as I lived in Lafayette for 30 years, and a good part of that was in a neighborhood between Ryan Street and the Circle K. I now live in Spring, Texas and I'm extremely curious about the distances travelled between the location of the burned out truck (San Jacinto County), where the truck was reported as stolen (Montogomery County), and the city of Spring, Texas which is located in northern Harris County.

Sam Houston National Forest covers 163,0456 acres in San Jacinto, Walker and Montgomery Counties. Since there is no specific info on where in San Jacinto County the truck was found, I'm using Coldspring, Texas, the county seat of San Jacinto County, as a reference point.

Only checking Enterprise Rental locations, I found 3 locations in Huntsville (31.5 miles from Coldspring), 4 locations in Conroe (35.5 miles from Coldspring), and 1 location in The Woodlands (46.5 miles from Coldspring). Yet he rented a vehicle in Spring which is 51.6 miles from Coldspring. Keep in mind that the distances could be shorter of longer since we don't have the exact location.

It appears to me as if he would have had to have transportation of some sort for the time period between the truck burning and the car rental. An unknowing accomplice?

Seeing all the speculation on how he got from burn site to car rental place, can someone put this into actual miles?

What about a bike/etc in back of pick-up?

Hope this helps. There's also a map that makes it easier to understand.

I don't think he rented a car after he burned his truck, I'm thinking he called someone to come get him and probably gave some excuse as to why he was there.

The truck has already been found. I'll look for the link, I think it was found mid-June.

Lavergne's truck found burned in Texas

There are multiple updates to this story. Please click here to get the latest information.

As you recall, a white Chevy Silverado, possibly a model Z-71, was identified as a vehicle of interest after surveillance video was released; Showing Mickey riding her bike at the same time the truck was headed down St. Landry. Police say that truck was Lavergne's and he was driving. Police believe he quickly dumped the vehicle, days after those pictures were released. Deputies in San Jacinto Texas say they found a truck in their county, on May 31, burned. But Lafayette police didn't get the tip until the middle of June.

San Jacinto is approximately an hour's drive north from Houston. Lavergne's truck was found burned only days after Lafayette police released photographs of the truck as a vehicle of interest. But it wasn't until June 14th, when an unknown caller phoned the tip line, relaying the information about the burned truck in Texas.

From multiple posts recently it seems like it is an educated guess at best to whether he rented a car?

Is there any proof of ran rental?

You could be correct. However, I'm sure that the rental car agent who posted the details here, would have known the address of BSL, therefore confirming that it was the same BSL. Besides using his driver's license as a form of ID, he would have to have given proper information since the rental involved an insurance claim. It is my opinion that the person who posted here would have crossed the t's and dotted the i's before stating matter of factly the details surrounding the car rental by BSL.

Also, I do not believe that every car insurance company authorizes a rental based on the criteria you referenced. Last time I had to rent a vehicle due to an insurance claim, I was allowed a certain $ amount per day, i.e. $25. This amount no where near covered a comparable vehicle to what I was driving.

From the threads I have read, I think a poster had inside information.

the article makes me feel very very hopeful that they will find her
http://www.theadvertiser.com/articl...ck-searches-continue-after-arrest?sf5019117=1

Not me.

I have sadly resigned myself to the fact that much to my dismay, unless another person is involved, or they have the wrong person, I don't see how she can still be alive. Even if BSL left her with food and water locked in a building somewhere,it has now been almost 2 months.

Recent articles are stating that not only have they been watching/following BSL since he came in from offshore, but even prior to that-possibly even before 6/14. He apparently has not gone anywhere that has led LE to Mickey sequestered alive somewhere.

My heart breaks for Mickeys family and the loss of their precious child, for our community that many innocently believed to be safe from predators, and for BSLs family, who out of love and compassion willingly accepted BSL into their lives. This is a tragedy for everyone involved. There are no winners here.

The reason I believe this guy operates alone is partly because he is still appealing his other case, denied that he did anything wrong and only pled out to get a shorter sentence and because of his "good behavior" in prison, all of which makes be think he is a sociopath who wants people to think he is charming, etc...and wouldn't be the type to work in pairs or gangs when committing crimes. Not really saying this very well, but I know what I mean, lol.

I agree with you. He is in denial of wrong doing. In his mind he may believe that his '99 victim asked for it and it would not surprise me if he came out and said Mickey was asking for it riding out at night alone in shorts with her legs uncovered or some other such nonsense. It sounds as if growing up he had relationship problems and would not be real trusting of others. I can not picture him and a friend riding around together. He is a loner, probably charming at times and good at being deceptive.

From the many articles I have read following the arrest, it appears that LE is certain that she is deceased. It breaks my heart to even type it, but realistically I believe it's true as well. **sigh**

speaking of trucks, something i never did understand and still do not, the circle K truck --

there is teh one that we sleuthed the mess out of that is closest to the construction road sign traveling to the right of your computer screen or tv or whatever you are looking at. then there's the one further from the road sign traveling to the left of your comouter screen if looking at your screen. it has the chrome gas cap.

BOTH of these images are of Brandon's truck, right?

i know it's not that important but this is something i've ALWAYS wondered since the beginning. did we ever get a definite answer on this?

I do hope that LE can find MS through tips from those who know BSL.

I do know how much MS' family want her returned. I found it interesting what her father suggested on NG last night. I took it that he would not be in agreement for some kind of plea in exchange for BSL providing her location, unless she was still alive. However, he also seemed to very much hoping that she is still alive. If LE gives him the information they must have to be able to charge BSL with first degree murder, then MS's father might have a change of mind.

Not to compare cases in two very different states, but I can't help thinking about a case here, and how the remains of college student Brooke were eventually found. Her parents along with LE agreed to JC's life sentence in NM over death sentence in OR in order to get her back. He had family/children in NM, so he wanted to be in prison there. She was found in woods in the coastal range about 15 miles from where she was abducted, at the place where she was raped. It was on private property, 5 years later.

I just hope tips keep coming in and they can find MS without any plea deals.

i know that you don't blame the victim, but she was wearing jeans. i was glad about this detail when they reported her missing. otherwise, some of the public would have found a problem with her wearing shorts IF she would have been. thankfully, she was in skinny jeans.

i make my girls wear one piece swimsuits to keep them looking as innocent as possible at the beach or pool. my oldest daughter can't stand it. oh well!

Crowley hairdresser: Lavergne had ‘knife’ wound on neck

Written by Leslie Turk **
Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Brandon Scott Lavergne’s last hair appointment with Holly Bourriague was June 20, one month after 21-year-old Mickey Shunick went missing. The stylist noticed a cut on his neck that she says appeared to be a knife wound.

This mugshot from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center shows what appears to be
a scar healing on Lavergne's lower right neck.
“It kind of looked like he would have gotten stabbed or something,” says Bourriague, who works at the SmartStyle salon in the Crowley Walmart. “It looked like it had been the size of a knife [cut].” Bourriague says she could not tell how old the wound was but does not remember noticing it before.

But even if there are several Brandon Lavergnes living in Houston, how many of them could have had a truck registered to them that was burnt in Texas, and then rented a car in Texas, and drove it to Louisiana and returned it? Most likely, it's the same guy...

oh em gee from that link!

Bourriague was cutting a customer’s hair on July 5 and, she admits, waiting for Lavergne’s call when she got the news.

“A guy walks in and says, ‘Did you hear that they finally caught the guy?’ He said ‘his picture is even on the [news].’ I said, ‘Well, what’s his name?’ And he said ‘Brandon.’ And I’m just making a joke out of it cause I was waiting for Brandon to call me when he got back from work and said, “Huh, it better not be Brandon Lavergne.’ He turns, he looks at me, he said, ‘Brandon Scott Lavergne?’ and shows me his picture. I dropped my scissors, I dropped everything I had in my hand and ran outside. I was shaking so bad. I still cannot believe it, I’m still in shock.”
Can you imagine?

I found this link very informative on this... here is a snip:

Though the documents are similar, there is a big difference between a grand jury indictment and a bill of information. A grand jury indictment means that you will go to trial on that particular charge — you will not be able to have a charge reduced or dismissed by a pre trial motion. In most cases, a grand jury indictment is for more serious felony charges. With a bill of information, however, there is an opportunity to request a reduction of charges if there does not appear to be enough evidence to support the charge

much more at link

http://thomasvalonzo.com/blog/2011/08/how-criminal-charges-are-filed-in-louisiana/

I think this post from nursebeeme needs to be read.

It does not strike me that the DA is concerned with respect to evidence in this case or a murder 1 charge.

Is anyone planning to be present in the courthouse on the 18th? Will that even be allowed? I am seeing people on FB talking about going. Would it be open to the public?

I testified in front of a grand jury in Lafayette in 1993 or so and it was behind closed doors. Could have been the nature of the case, though.
