Serious question. Why are LE so preoccupied with avoiding a change of venue?

Does it really matter where a trial takes place if they have good solid evidence and the perp is convicted?

Also, what does Cajun Net mean? I keep seeing it and have no idea what it is!

yes this is correct, Brandon's adoptive father was in the hospital and is alive and doing okay health wise. Brandon's parents did divorce and his mother pretty much distanced herself from our side of the family so I don't know too much about what she did after that but she did start seeing someone else, I'm not sure if they got married because why would her name still be Lavergne unless his name was Lavergne as well or she kept her name which both i guess are possible. He did pass away however about a year ago.

Hard to keep up with these threads, in the time it takes me to write something there are already 15 new pages of posts.

<mod snip> But I'm willing to answer basic questions

Thank you for your willingness to share... and I understand the various pressures you are under.

I have a question:

Is Brandon a drinker? How often/how much, hard alcohol or beer - and how does he act? Happy drunk? Unhappy drunk?

Much appreciated.

This post in the previous thread made me want to share something:

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8148763&postcount=1736"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - LA LA - ***ARREST*** Mickey Shunick, 21, Lafayette, 19 May 2012 #35[/ame]

Now, I know that Mickey is not Creole (I think probably not Cajun either), but very early in her threads, while a lot of us non-locals were trying to get a feel for things Louisiana and environs, sometimes discussion turned to author James Lee Burke, and his newest (I think?) book Creole Belle was mentioned (and recommended).

Just as soon as it was mentioned, the song My Creole Belle, which I've always loved, started playing incessantly in my head, so of course eventually I had to head to YouTube and listen a few times.

I also know Arlo Guthrie's version would not be the version of choice of this song for some, but I'm using that one because it is the one I knew and loved when I was younger -- and because it has such a happy lilt to it. (Song doesn't really kick in until about :32 at the link, so be a little patient...)

In my mind, the song became kind of a theme song for Mickey. I liked to envision her tooling along on her bike, free and safe and happy. I still like to think of her that way.

So -- this is for Mickey:

I don't think LE ever wants a change of venue; it makes it appear that info was released that was unfair to the defendant, for one, and may infer that the case was handled in a less than professional manner. But that is just my opinion. I think it is also more expensive to move to another county.

As far as "cajun net" I assume it is being referred to as the local gossip network.

SomeGuy - thank you for giving us the opportunity to ask you questions. Do you know if BL harbored anger toward his birth mother for giving him up for adoption? Did he have a relationship with his birth mother? Thank you again.

Right, just putting down the speculation she was carrying a box blade or knife. BW said he was suprised about people running with this theory.

While I have absolutely no idea whether Mickey carried a box cutter or not, I dont see how BW can state for certain that she didnt. He can only vouch that he had never seen or heard of her carrying one. Even best friends dont know EVERYTHING about each other. And as to being shocked that people would believe that she did, we do know that she carried mace, which is meant to help disable someone when used (whether it is effective may be another story). If she would spray mace in someone's face to get away, can we automaticaally assume that she would be unwilling to slice at someone with a cutter for he same purpose? I see no reason to believe that she had a box cutter, but I also do not believe that he can know for certain that she didnt, JMO, and probably irrelevant anyway, as it doesnt seem it was able to save her life. :(

Trying to get into the mind of Brandon Scott Lavergne makes me feel like throwing up, but I've tried several times, like I'm sure all of you have, to figure out the what and where and how - but will probably never know the why.
The following is all purely my opinion. He's had plenty of time to clean up his home of most traces of her, prior to his arrest, but his morbid obsession/compulsion/sickness made him keep something of Mickey's. LE may have found some evidence of the crime at his home, in the form of Mickey's possessions, that he might view as *trophies* - perhaps her underwear - just guessing. I think she put up quite a fight during the abduction, and possibly fought him off again, when he got her to his home. I'm guessing he was totally taken aback by the level of resistance he got from her, and that she did in fact stab him, after initially pepper spraying him at the initial point of the abduction. I'm guessing that he strangled her and then put her in a container of some kind, before rigor mortis could set in. Probably in a large waterproof offshore bag, loaded it in his truck and dropped it in a swamp en route to New Orleans. Before putting her body in his truck, my guess is that he cleaned the house, washed his clothes, had a shower, etc. and then devised his plan for the disposal of her body and his amazingly stupid alibi about being mugged by the phantom *mister gold teeth* at the gas station he can't remember the name or location of!
The rumors of his poison ivy rash could mean he brushed past poison ivy in the woods when he disposed of the body - or it could mean he broke out in a rash because of the pepper spray. It would sting like heck especially combined with all those cuts on his body and hand. Surely someone somewhere saw this 220 lb hot mess between Church Point and Whiskey Bay and Ochsner Hospital and can shed more light on where Mickey is. I'm thinking he'd have stopped at a gas station for a drink or to use the toilet at some stage of his journey. Okay, that was my :twocents:

Thanks for helping to clear this up. Are Brandon and Joshua blood brothers? I ask because they look so much alike.

In reading CL's husband's obituary, it showed that the two boys were stepchildren of this husband, and his last name was Lavergne, too. That would make Lavergne the last name of both his Mother's husbands.

Except that everyone knew she carried mace, which makes me think she did so in order to not only protect herself, but to let her loved ones know she was ready to protect herself. So it seems that at least her sister would know if she carried another weapon as well.

In any event, you are right, she was not able to save her life against this guy. I think people do hope she had a chance to injure him, so the idea of a blade of some sort was kind of a comfort to many. JMO

I believe a previous poster said the box cutter had been mentioned on Mickey's Facebook page. I haven't looked to see if it's mentioned there or not.
Is it possible that Mickey's bike, which was a Cutter, is causing the confusion making some think it was mentioned that she carried a box cutter?

And I know what you mean about how quickly the posts pile up. It's hard to keep up, which shows you just how must interest there is in finding Mickey and learning as much as possible about what happened to her.

Please don't feel overwhelmed, as we value your input and enjoy having you here with us on WS!

According to the JPSO report, Lavergne arrived at Oschner Medical Center at 3:30PM, not 6PM.

I'm curious as to why you think Lavergne brought Shunick to New Orleans, though. Other than Lavergne's claim he was attacked at a gas station, there's nothing to indicate that he ever arrived in the city. He can be placed between Lafayette, LA and Jefferson, LA on May 19th, but not New Orleans.

I can't find anywhere in the report that states he arrived at Ochsners at 3:30. It states that he was stabbed at about 3pm.
He had to have said something about New Orleans or the NOPD would not have been called.

It appears that Brandon Scott Lavergne is withholding information about Mickey's location as a bargaining chip to save his own skin. IMO
Don't let this monster get the chance to prolong the agony of her parents and loved ones who deserve to have her back home NOW.

:please::heartbeat::please:

I'm begging anyone who may stumble upon this post, who knows where Tom and Nancy's beautiful daughter is, to please say something now directly to:

:phone:

Lafayette Police at 337-291-8633 or contact Private Investigator John Abdella at 337-235-0270. You can also email [email protected].

:gthanks:

"It's been very frustrating for us, because we don't know where she is, and he does," said Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft. "We were hoping that maybe he would at least have enough kindness or sympathy to give the parents and the family some relief or some closure about what happened to their little girl and where she is. I call it selfish on his part. We're not giving up. We promised to continue our efforts to bring her home, and that's what we're doing."

I read that article once and can't read it again because the website keeps crashing, but did it say that he checked in st Landry parish on may 29th for his quarterly RSo check in? If so, his wounds should have raised eyebrows!!! Especially if it was on the 29th. Did I misread that?

Are the step dad and adoptive dad related? Or do they just happen to have the same last name?

I'm not sure if they are related or not.

Her name remained Lavergne because her second husband was also a Lavergne.

I agree, he had more than enough time to dispose of the bike and of Mickey. Why the time change would make it any more likely that he brought her to New Orleans escapes me. I think he left Mickey far behind within 1-2 hours of abducting her, personally. JMO

I really can't imagine any reason why Lavergne would choose to bring Shunick (in any condition) to an urban area where she'd be more likely to be found.

Given that Lavergne is supposed to have burned his truck in Texas, dumped Shunick's bike about an hour outside of Lafayette just off I-10, and traveled at least 2.5 hours from his home to visit the hospital, I get the impression that he thought distance might make his actions more difficult to pinpoint.

Everything I've read points to Lavergne being present at Whiskey Bay around the time the bike was discovered, not around the time Shunick vanished.

Of the 13.5 hours between the time Shunick vanished and Lavergne showed up at Ochsner, only about four of those hours were dark. The sun rose in Lafayette at 6:12AM on May 19th, so logically, he either dumped Shunick between 2-6AM, or stored her somewhere until a later time. I'm not sure how comfortable Lavergne would have been leaving a live, fighting woman unattended for a 10 plus-hour stretch.

Of course it's possible that he dumped the body during daylight hours, but that seems pretty unlikely. On the other hand, it does seem likely that Lavergne's injuries were inflicted in an altercation with Shunick. If he's telling the medical staff and police that his injuries were inflicted around 3PM, then shows up at the hospital about a half hour later, you'd think that the wounds would have to be pretty fresh, and he'd still be wearing the same blood-soaked clothing. The blood wouldn't have had enough time to dry if Lavergne's account of the timing is accurate.

I'm rambling, but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the window of Shunick's likely death could really be narrowed down by the state of Lavergne's injuries at 3:30PM on May 19th. No doubt the interested parties have obtained the records and are establishing that now, if they haven't already. The more fresh the wounds, the more likely Shunick will be found between Lafayette and Jefferson, LA.

Our old friend Scott Peterson got a change of venue.

Hear he may be getting a new trial.. Can you imagine our old friend Scott Peterson getting a life sentence W/O parole and being placed in the prison's general population?

'If so swift Justice will finally be served, imo'..

Can anyone answer my question on the previous page about the article in tow talk. On phone and row talks website keeps crashing on me for some reason. My kids are begging to go to the pool, but I won't go until I've this info straight. I have become a lackluster mom since this case began

The end time/location of the event is listed as 1530 at the address for Ochsner Medical Center.

Lavergne claimed that he was attacked at a gas station in New Orleans, but is apparently unable to identify where he might have been. Other than his claims, there's no proof he was ever in the city.
