No, it has never been verified if Mickey carried a boxcutter or not. Friends posted on FB early in the case that she had. But BW said she did not that he knew of.

They said it happened between St Landry and St Mary and Blackham Colliseum

BW didn't know her route, either. The route he said she would have taken (I forget what it was) wasn't the route she took. Maybe he didn't know about a boxcutter. Maybe other friends saw it/knew of it.

Also, just to ensure that we don't restart an old carousel, Chief Craft said it happened between the intersection of St Landry & St Mary and Blackham Colliseum.

The italicized parts weren't his actual words, but listening to the interview, it's obvious that that's what he meant. We went 'round and 'round on this long ago.

The 'sheriff's properties' as in personal properties??

It is very common for Louisiana sheriff's to get in trouble because inmates are doing personal work on their properties. It happens all the time.

If you do a search on the latest Winn Parish sheriff who was indicted for drug trafficking, you will note that also he had inmates doing private work on his property. It happens so often if I don't hear it during a campaign mud-slinging contest it is unusual.

Now that we know he was transferred three times, was in Winn parish and calcasieu and someone reported he had, of all things, a Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC) -- which is hard to get if you have a criminal background -- he would have had to file a waiver and SOMEBODY would have had to signed off on that -- and I just wonder who that somebody was -- IF he had one that is (strictly rumor at this point, but an interesting rumor). Again -- I would like to know if there is a thread for murders he was involved with because knowing this most recent piece of information, I have a particular unsolved murder that I think fits his modus operandi perfectly and the location is about right.

I would be very interested to see a map of all unsolved murders/disappearances of women in south Louisiana between about 1997 and 2012, with a pushpin for each location. Would be interesting to see which ones were geographically closer to BSL's usual environs.

So what I am wondering is why they had to wait to search his trailer??? It seems that if they were suspect of BSL they would have wanted to acsess his trailer ASAP..BMH

LE could not search his trailer until he came in because a friend or neighbor could have text msgd him, called him, twittered or FB him saying police were searching his place and he could have tried to take off, hold someone hostage, etc. People offshore can sometimes use computers and phones.

:what:

Many offshore workers have company gas credit cards to fill their vehicles because they use them for work to go back and forth to land jobs, offshore jobs and sometimes hotshot jobs. I am going to guess BSL probably had one.

Even if that were true, it probably would have been issued in his name, I would suspect. Should be easy enough to trace. JMO

It's true that many, many, many Louisiana sheriffs have been found corrupt. Everything from prisoners remodeling their homes, to fixing tickets, to drug-running, to kickback schemes, to child 🤬🤬🤬🤬, to covering up crimes. I'm not sure if we have a worse record here than other states, but I would expect so, given the long history.

I thought the poison oak was verified via MSM; has it morphed back into being mace-related injuries?

Is there a thread where people are listing the rapes/murders that BSL may have been involved in and why they think that? I would like to list some cases....

Let's see if I can get this quoting thing right...

Here's the thread for the discussion on BSL and possible victims, I think:

Many many thanks danzn16!

There was a Tulane criminologist working on the case that stated she was known to carry a sharp object. That was after the box cutter rumor. There was speculation that she probably had a tool kit for her bicycle. The interview where the criminologist says is probably linked in the Fact Check thread.

Those women don't seem to fit BSL's MO though. Those poor women were of questionable repute and I just don't see him going for those kinds of women. Yes, Lisa and Mickey really didn't appear to be anything alike, but still I don't think the Jennings women fit into it. Besides, wasn't it highly speculated that these murders were done by someone in or imitating LE?
BTW, one of the girls murdered in Jennings was the niece of one of my best friends.

I am so sorry about your friend's niece. That must really "bring it home" to you.

(I really have no opinion one way or another at this point about whether BSL is related to those murders -- I just am not well enough informed about them, IMO. My post was just to point someone who was asking about that possibility to some related posts a page or so back.)

What is that white object? It looks like something to do with the lines?

I believe you are looking at the tops of the power lines/transformers. JMO

they make it sound as though they really weren't convinced it was him until June 14th. below is part of a Q&A with Cpl Mouton. I didn't remember reading the bolded part. I find that interesting

"Q: How long ago did you get this tip on him? Can you share that?

A: Yeah, if I’m not mistaken, I believe the actual tip came in in June – 14th maybe – we received information from a concerned citizen about the Z-71 pickup. If you remember correctly I believe we had three to four vehicles of interest that were in the immediate area that we were very interested in. And we eliminated three – look, they were in the area, they confirmed they were in the area, but they all had, you know, credible stories and credible information that we felt they were not involved. But we never could find the Z-71. Not the driver, not the person, why wouldn’t that person come forward? Because you would know if you were driving in that area at the time. Fortunately because of the volunteers, because of the friends of the Mickey Shunick family just did such an excellent job with social media and getting the word out – continue to get the word out – that we just felt they would have known. And so we started investigating his background, with the plate, with the owner Lavergne and his background and then based off of that we were able to discover that, in fact, the vehicle had been burned and then after it was burned, that same day that it was reported stolen. You know, that’s some powerful information on top of some other things that we have that we haven’t released yet. So once we were able to gather everything – to get to the day that we were, which was yesterday – that we sat down with members of the district attorney’s office and we felt we have a strong case to get the warrants that we did, which were first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping – and put this guy in jail."

i don't know how to interpret the "with the plate" part. does that mean the Texas had the plate of the burned truck? and they used that plate to begin investigating? surely they didn't have his plate in the surveillance videos!
A lil behind in reading, but...always my assumption that either MS's bike or BSL's license plate is the 'Advertiser' 'Bertrand Drive' evidence.

If you can't answer, I understand, but the several people who saw his wounds that you refer to, are those people all in the same Texas hospital or are you saying his stories at Ochsner and Opelousas General were different from the Texas story?

I'm just wondering if he told one nurse in Texas one story and then the Texas doctor another etc. (or something to that nature - the check in girl one thing and the nurse another)

Those people all work at the same business here in Lafayette. They are in no way connected to the hospital in Texas. I don't know the Texas story, I just know he was at a Texas hospital.

It is not necessarily anyone related to the hospital. That would violate HIPAA regulations
Could be hotel workers, say front desk, maid ,landscaper, waitress or pool man. (for instance) FWIW.

If BSL has half a brain that functions, he would be using exclusively cash for nefarious roadtrips, to minimize his tracks.

As far as burning his truck, he unavoidably had to report it stolen, once he decided to destroy the evidence, and so that placed him in Texas. I have wondered why he didn't drive it out there, burn it, get home by bus - all without using credit cards, and then report it stolen from - say - New Orleans. That would maybe prevent him from being placed in Texas. Then to go to a hospital in Texas draws more attention to Texas.

I'm thinking that if he truly left Mickey in Texas, he would not want to draw attention there.

The amount of attention he drew to Texas, and the risk of a long road trip with a body in the truck, makes me lean toward Mickey's being here in Louisiana.

One thought I have had before - a general thought, not related to BSL:

Using cash to conceal one's movements can be incriminating in its own right, in that it breaks the usual chain of credit-card transactions. This can draw more attention to gaps in travel itineraries than just "innocently" using one's credit card.

The only way to make this work, IMO, is to swear off credit-card use for a long enough time ahead of time to establish a pattern of paying cash, so that a break in credit-card transactions no longer is an incriminating factor.

bbm: I could be mistaken, but I believe that poster was only conjecturing that BSL might have had a TWIC while working in some type of pre-release program, not that he did for sure.

ETA: And I believe there is a link to the thread you are seeking on the first page of this thread.
(In the list to links to threads there, it is the one that begins with BSL's full name.)

If anybody thinks that these stories are far fetched or exaggerated then please recall (or google) Haley Bourbour pardonning convicted murderer (who had been sentenced to life) after feeling that he was a pretty good guy while working as a trustee at the governers mansion over in mississippi. Sheesh.

I don't have to Google it, I live in Mississippi and I don't know what that idiot was thinking! I'll bet he'd feel different if that pretty good guy had murdered one of his loved ones. Barbour is a cretin and thank goodness we have someone in the Governor's mansion now who has some sense.
