Found Deceased La Crosse Police ask for community assistance locating 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz - Last Seen 3:20 AM - 20 Jul 2025

  • #21
Likely because she is a 22 year old college student who disappeared while walking home alone at 3 AM? She is said to be reliable and isn’t answering her phone. Not that difficult to imagine there is immediate concern for her wellbeing.
<modnip - unnecessary> Missing persons alerts don't, and arguably should not, go out for adults after 5 hours when there is no evidence anything is actually wrong. Concern isn't evidence of wrongdoing and we absolutely know concern isn't enough to motivate LE to do anything. A person not being where expected is not evidence of wrongdoing. So obviously the question is why in this case did something so radically different occur?

I'm local to this one. Thankfully the community is going a good job of getting Eliotte's face out there on the news, facebook, and fliers.

I took a walk around the area she was last seen. This immediate area used to all be industrial years ago, and now it's a mix of nice new businesses and ugly stuff a block away. Where she was last seen is just about the end of the nice part.

She was very close to the Mississippi river, but she had just walked past the places you'd go to get to river itself. IMHO, she could not have made it to the river without being on camera, or climbing over a fence and some ugly stuff. Still, there are crews searching the river, which is good.

There are two hotels right there, and she's heading right toward one of them - Courtyard by Marriott. It looks like it's possible to walk past the hotel or into their parking lot without being on camera. I'm assuming their front entrance has a camera.

One block to the east is the other hotel, Fairfield Inn. The way she's walking is not the natural way to get there. She'd basically be walking on one really unwelcoming block, to come up to the back of the hotel. There is a side entrance, and I didn't see any cameras anywhere along here including that entrance.

The only other thing right here is the Cass Street Bridge, which is our biggest landmark (you would not need to be using maps on your phone to find it.) There is a stairway leading up to the bridge. The stairway itself doesn't seem to have cameras, but I'm pretty sure the top of the bridge does.

One other note: bars legally have to close by 2:30am here. She was last seen at 3:22am, so almost an hour later.

Keepng any further speculation to myself, as I'm not sure it would be allowed or helpful.

Everything MOO: my opinion only / my local observations only

I sure hope if I were to go missing such as this, people wouldn’t wait 5 hours before putting it out there. JMO.

Great info thank you. I wonder where she was for that hour after bars close and if it’s related.

Officials are also searching for Heinz. Police are utilizing drones while dive rescue searches the river near La Crosse's blue bridges. Police tell News 8 Now they are being swamped with tips regarding the young woman's disappearance.

I use to stay with bartender friends after hours while they cleaned up and counted the money.
Maybe she did the same.

Welcome, @Pennyfeather.
Question: You took the walk. If you were 22year old Elliote, would you walk the same routes after 2am by yourself?

Is there anything else open at that time in the area?

Hope she is found safe! From 1997-2006, 8 LaCrosse college students drowned in the Mississippi River. The deaths were determined to be the result of excessive drinking combined with a close physical proximity to the Mississippi River. All 8 were males, and there were theories for several years that a serial killer was involved, but nothing was ever proven.

Around eight this morning, a group of friends, family and police gathered on Front Street South to begin a search for 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz.

Crews search river

Heartbreaking to see how worried her family is. Just catching up. Do they think she may have went into the river?

Thank you for the boots on the ground information. Could you share your opinion please, as a local I think it would be helpful.

Do you have an idea what bar she may have been at?

Thanks! I was thinking about that while walking. She wasn't taking the "natural" route back to campus, if that makes sense. The area behind her wasn't too bad, but she would have seen that it got darker and uninviting up ahead.
Now, a young person who has been drinking, if she doesn't know the area well, I wouldn't rule out that she was just trying to get home. She needed to go southeast, so maybe she was walking S until she saw a street she knew, and then was going to go E.

MOO

There were probably some food trucks around the bar when it closed, but that's it as far as businesses. There are always afterparties, of course.

EBM: there are also a couple of brick and mortar restaurants that stay open until 3am or so, for the bar crowd. So she could have grabbed a bite to eat at a few different places.

The flyer says she was last seen at Bronco's Bar. The first post in this thread says, "The police department said 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz was last seen walking southbound on the 500 Block of Front Street South at around 3:20 a.m. Sunday morning."

In maps, I have put in Bronco's, the location where she was seen walking southbound (which I believe is in front of the Weber Center for the Performing Arts -- see the photos below this map for screen captures that I think line up with the photo of her walking southbound). Did she live at Viterbo University? I added that as the third stop on the map. The last stop is the location where family & friends were meeting to start their search.

If she was walking back to a house or apartment (my supposition) around the university, why would she have gone along Front Street as it looks like a detour out of the way? MOO.

Public records show an address for an apartment at 1425 8th St S in La Crosse.

From the Bronco to that address is 1.4 miles.

I thought the same. As she appears to be on her phone was she meeting someone there? Or went to relieve herself or take/smoke something?
Can anyone show a street view of how secluded it is down by the Mississippi on Front St
