Likely because she is a 22 year old college student who disappeared while walking home alone at 3 AM? She is said to be reliable and isn’t answering her phone. Not that difficult to imagine there is immediate concern for her wellbeing.
<modsnip: Info re phone was removed due to non-approved source>

ETA: I'm just seeing that her body was found. Sad. <modsnip>

Yeah. Unfortunately, I saw that after my post. So, I went back and edited it. Intentional? Do you think?

Just more of,the same but personally I had not understood that she was spotted a second time after the image we’ve seen which was along the waterfront (or am I missing sth?) : I may be misunderstanding…

She was last seen walking along the Mississippi River waterfront at about 3:30 a.m., and later spotted on surveillance footage walking in the direction of her apartment, which was three-quarters of a mile away.

Her body was found in the river just before 10:30 a.m. local time Wednesday near Brownsville, Minnesota—more than a dozen miles from her last known location.

<modsnip: See Tricia's post at FOX News National is no longer an approved source>

I reshare the map from the cctv to her apt

Not even willing to speculate at this point, too few known facts. I think LE will make a pretty quick announcement after the autopsy though.

Friends found her phone during the search, but it is not clear where it was found. This for me is an important clue.

If there was later surveillance, I wish they would release a photo or the location. Of course they may have a very good reason for not doing that.

The last photo we've seen (500 Front St) is about a mile from her house, as the crow flies. I wonder if they took the "3/4 mile" from the interview with her mom, in which case it could be very approximate, or even subconsciously rounded down.
If Eliotte had made it much further, past the bridges, then she would have ended up in an area where there were buildings, fences, and trees in between her and the water. So I'm still inclined to think that whatever happened, happened in the vicinity of the hotel and bridges, and not much further on than that.

I don't know if this is relevant now. But at 10am this morning, shortly before she was found, the city sent out another notice asking local businesses/residents to check their property and cameras. I don't know if that could give any insight as to where the investigation was at, at that point. Obviously it's very different now.

Very sad update. My prayers are with Eliotte and her family and friends and that they get the answers then need to find some peace.

I had a gut feeling she was in the river. Especially after I read she left the bar at 2:20 am for a 30 minute walk home and was seen on CCTV still walking at 3:45 am. RIP

Parts of Minnesota have had heavy rains in recent days. Maybe the river was higher and faster than usual?

It seems not uncommon for young men who went missing after a night on the town to end up in a river. (There’s been chatter about a serial killer responsible for this around the country, but it sadly seems like it’s the mixture of being drunk late at night and being too close to water?). But I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this scenario with young women.

Some more photos from this area:
Snipping out most of the post I'm replying to, since it was pretty big.

I went back to this area last night, around 10pm, so see what it looks like after dark. I didn't take pictures this time. It was lit about as well as you could hope - there are street lights, the top of the bridge is lit for traffic, and the loading docks of the warehouses were lit. I don't know if the warehouses were still open, so they may turn off their lights later on.

However the waterfront was very dark, and you couldn't see it from the street. Possibly if you got closer your eyes would adjust and you could see something. But to me it didn't look like the kind of place where you would turn toward the water. MOO

I don't know if it's useful to speculate whether there would have been people in this area at 3:30am. I don't know anything factual as far as that. And at this point we don't know if another person was involved.

Someone posted an article that said she initially left with a friend and walked with her to her apartment, then was headed to her own.

I’m concerned they may have been followed by someone.
My thoughts are the same. SMH.
