GUILTY LA - David, 56, & Nicholas Pence, 25, murdered in their Metairie home, 22 April 2015

you know i'd really prefer if you'd all agree with me that this crime was committed by close acquaintances of the family instead of a random act as i'm in this big ole house alone tonight as the hive has went to the family vineyard out of state without me this weekend (she nervously typed) okay???????????:scared:

work with me people :gaah:

I'll agree with you until the PC tomorrow. Lock your doors and windows :therethere:

Close your eyes, Queen Bee. My sister called me a little while ago, as I was still perusing articles, with this news.

As she was driving home from work tonight, near her home in a quiet, residential NOLA neighborhood, she noticed a car in front of her driving slowly, so she passed it. She got to her house and backed into the driveway -- thank goodness she makes a habit of doing that -- had her head down to gather up her purse and things, and when she looked up, the car she'd seen was stopped in the street, in front of her driveway. The driver got out of the car and was holding a rifle (or shotgun). Fortunately, she had enough room to speed past him, and she made her way back onto the street. Drove a few blocks away, and called the police. Now she's home, locked up tight, but scared to death.

Very scary! Is there somewhere she can stay tonight?

From what I was seeing in nola comments (total rumor) the suspects are not anybody we have heard from or about.

Yes, she could come here, but that would require getting out and back on the street. I could wake up my husband, and we could drive over there, but honestly, I think we're all safer staying at home. I really don't think they will bother her tonight. More than likely, they wanted the car -- brand new, very nice -- and now they'll just look for another mark. I'll be on the phone with her off and on all night, though, I'm sure. It's so sad what is happening to this city.

That's what I said. She should have driven directly here, or to a friend's house. But her dog is at home, and she didn't want to leave him alone all night. She just lost her husband last fall, and she and doggie are both still grieving, and very dependent on each other.

Sorry guys. I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but the timing is uncanny, considering the subject matter.

ETA: Never in a zillion years did I think I would say this, but...it's probably time for me to learn how to use the .38 that's been locked up in the closet forever.

I was reading through the articles again, and found something I'd missed. Now I'm wondering if it wasn't random.

"But, investigators did confirm that a bike that belonged to the Pence’s next door neighbor was found in a different neighbor’s driveway across the street. Also, at the corner of Clifford and 9th, a purse that was inside of a Volvo, was found outside of the car. Its contents were found thrown out on the road."

That's^^^ what made me think it might have been random.

This case has me perplexed. I wish they would tell us the identity of the two people arrested now, instead of tomorrow morning. When I first read the story, I thought the friends were involved but felt so guilty jumping to conclusions. What stands out is that media always leaves out the name of the second friend who returned to get his inhaler. Is his name withheld to protect him? Did he happen to see something that made him a witness? This tragic story has my mind bouncing off the walls.

Glad they were able to make the arrests this early but wish more info was disclosed so my mind could shut down and stop going into over drive.

SilverGirl, I feel the same as you....I am a LONG time lurker on websleuths (back to the Michelle Young days) but have never posted before. I too am perplexed and particularly interested in this case, since I lived for 10 years in a beautiful lakefront condo just two blocks from this murder scene and used to walk my golden retrievers at all hours of the night on this very street like I was invincible.

What I have read on other sites in postings from supposed insiders with connections to detectives involved in the case is that "the perps are an 18 y/o male and his 16 y/o girlfriend" and that this is a random robbery gone bad. Same poster also says "Guy who returned for his inhaler was integral to identifying the getaway vehicle for JPSO, which was stolen."

I guess we will find out what is fact/fiction tomorrow morning 11:00am at the presser.

Yes, didn't we all. One didn't have to live in a "beautiful lakefront condo" to know a sense of security that has gone by the wayside. Even we middle-class folks enjoyed that luxury until recent years.

Persiacat, glad you posted. I've known this neighborhood to be safe and completely understand how such a crime would leave residents (current and past) feeling vulnerable, as if a security blanket was snatched away.

The random robbery gone bad scenario is probably one of the scariest thoughts that crossed my mind. I haven't read up on the speculation, but if true - sounds disturbing. Unfortunately, no matter what the press announcement says, it will be unpleasant. I hope they are able to answer questions and elaborate so people can come together & grieve or cope with this loss without fear lingering overhead.

I don't believe this was a random act, so I'm agreeing with you. :blowkiss: I think it was someone they knew, friend or family.

I agree, though I don't think it was a close friend. I have a feeling there was more going on in the man cave than monopoly games, especially when all the "foot traffic" was mentioned by a neighbor.

  • #136
oh gosh, sorry Bessie, I guess that came out all wrong....it was nothing fancy, just beautiful to me referring more to my experience there cause it was my safe and happy place. I'm way middle class, believe me :)

I'm wondering who the main target was dad or son??? Maybe they both were???? I'm wondering if the killer had to shoot both since one would be a witness...

  • #139
