“We knew he was quite a ways from here,” Gustafson said. “We have had agencies in the last year call us who had dealt with him. They called to talk to us, wanting confirmation who he was, but he eluded capture from them."

Gustafson expressed regret that Gage County authorities weren’t able to capture Joekel before he became a suspect in a cop killing. He said the department’s “hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to the families.”

Info on Kyle Joekel from Gage County Sheriff office in Nebraska. He has been on the run for a year.

http://www.gage-ne-sheriff.us/2011_4634

DATE & TIME: August 21, 2011 approximately 1930 hrs

LOCATION: Barneston Area

OFFENSE: Terroristic Threats

CASE #: 2011-4634

On August 21, 2011 at approximately 1930 hours, Gage County Sheriff’s Office was advised that two individuals were causing problems in the Grand Ave Bar in Barneston. Comments being made by these individuals were threatening in nature toward patrons of the establishment and toward law enforcement as well. The bar staff requested that the individuals leave the establishment.

Several units of the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded as well as the Nebraska State Patrol to the Barneston area. Prior to law enforcement arrival, the individuals were observed traveling northbound out of Barneston, stopped for a short period of time approximately ½ mile north of town, and then turned around, traveled southbound through Barneston at a high rate of speed, and violated the stop sign at Highway 8 and South 108th Road.

Marshall County, Kansas authorities were notified of the situation and observed the vehicle shortly thereafter and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in Oketo, Kansas with the result of the suspect vehicle colliding with two parked vehicles and then a residence. One suspect had fled the scene on foot. The passenger was taken into custody and lodged at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office pending charges.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance in conducting a search for the suspect at large. Gage County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Gage County Sheriff’s Office Reserves, Gage County Emergency Management personnel, and the Beatrice Police Department K-9 Unit responded to the scene and assisted in the search for the suspect.

The suspect at large is Kyle D. Joekel, 28 of Beatrice. Joekel is wanted for questioning in pending cases in Nebraska and Kansas. The suspect arrested was David Schwartz, 43, of Beatrice. Schwartz is pending charges in Marshall County, Kansas and Nebraska.

Suspects in deputy killings linked to extremists

A sheriff says seven people arrested in a fatal shootout with Louisiana deputies have been linked to violent anarchists on the FBI's domestic terrorism watch lists.

The suspects were heavily armed adherents to an ideology known as the "sovereign citizens" movement.

These folks can be extremely dangerous in some circumstances. Not all of them, of course. But there is a hardcore element within the movement that can and will perform acts of violence if they deem it necessary.

In 2010, two West Memphis, Arkansas officers were killed while conducting a traffic stop by a Sovereign Citizen and his son.

isn't it typically this "sovereign Citizen Movement" of racist-right organizations that preach racial separation or another word white supremacist? I find it odd that a Black Female is one of the perps. Does anyone know the racial breakdown of this group is?

I'm confused!

All I know about them is that they are anti-government.

I found this...

In the past decade, though, the group's racism has abated and, with "rich irony," as Potok described it, they've added many African-Americans to their ranks. One of the seven suspects booked in the St. John attacks, Teniecha Bright, 21, is black; it is not clear whether she is a member of the sovereign group, though she lived with Joekel.

Sounds like the OWS'ers with the wealth envy.

But they don't believe in government or laws. They set their own laws. How convenient....

This is my hometown, I knew 3 of the 4 officers. :(

Today was to be Jeremy Triche's 28th birthday. Instead they are laying him to rest.
