witness accounts contradict this. but this is the south im sure what he says goes.

I'm sure gun powder testing of the car will be able to confirm or dismiss this.

I'll be following this extremely closely. I'm SUPER skeptical of SYG law and I'm wondering how that will play out in court.

wth? has that sheriff lost his mind? im only 15 minutes into the PC but if i were a member of joe mcknight's family right now i would be highly disappointed in the way this sheriff has chosen to conduct this PC so far.

too many things to list, you have to see it.

"Tough."

Yeah, I'd be angry.

That pc was by far the best one I have ever seen. The Chief called out the witness for the blatant lie, people that demanded an arrest and justice NOW! and didn't want to wait for LE to do their work investigating and gathering evidence. He got very specific, reading the comments from people towards black LE Officers, religious leaders and politicians that helped to keep people calm and let LE do their job. Horrible, nasty comments.

He said they were able to get 10 hours of interviews with an unlawyered Gasser (while having the prelim autopsy results) and Gasser also consented to a search of his house. He also said that witnesses that would not have come forward if Gasser was arrested last week, did eventually come forward. They have conducted 160 interviews and still more to do.

Chief did not hold back... spoke his mind and it was great to see and hear. I like this guy.

Personally I am glad he is taking to task all the hateful language used by people, directed at them, while, as it seems, they were conducting a thorough investigation based on evidence, not emotion. I swear, society is drifting towards having no emotional intelligence whatsoever.

the press conference wasnt held to discuss what some morons have said on social media, it was to discuss the decision to charge gasser with manslaughter.

the sheriff went on a nearly 20 minute rant about everything but the decision to file charges, he actually opened it up for questions before he ever addressed the actual case.

he never once stated what the critical factor/s were that brought them to believe this case was not covered by the stand your ground law.

none of this has anything to do with whether or not i agree with his initial comments or believe them to be accurate.

I'm assuming, as he is the person holding the press conference he can use it to address whatever he seems fit.

sure, he could have talked about space exploration for 30 minutes if he chose to... and i would feel free to state my opinion of that if he had.

I am with you. The PC's about the Oakland Fire were "too political" but then this one is and that's ok... huh?

Blech! :blah: You are right. I thought he started out okay with the tough talk, defending the decision his dept. made, but he really lost me when he went into the profanity-filled rant. I understand him explaining the need to seek out and interview witnesses and analyze evidence. That makes perfect sense. But, he should have stopped there and opened the floor for questions. MOO

To some extent, I agree. Normand addressed some things he needed to address at the beginning (evidence, witnesses), but ended up responding to hateful language with hateful language. He showed no emotional intelligence. It's understandable to defend one's reasoning and actions firmly, but a profanity-laced vitriol against one's detractors is unnecessary and simply childish. It did not put Normand in a good light.

<snipped>

Eventually, Normand said McKnight “hemmed in” Gasser’s vehicle in between several cars at a stoplight as the verbal sparring continued.

“At some point, Mr. McKnight exits his car and goes to Mr. Gasser’s car,” Normand said. “There continues to be a verbal altercation. At some point in time during that verbal altercation, Mr. Gasser pulls his weapon from between the seat and console and fires three shots at Joe McKnight, killing him.”

Norman said a gun was found in the car McKnight was driving, but that it belonged to his stepfather and there was no evidence he displayed it or even knew it was there.

In what was described as a rare move for forensic pathology, Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich said Wednesday that his office has excised the bullet entry wounds found on football standout Joe McKnight, who was shot three times last Thursday in what authorities describe as a "road rage" incident in Terrytown.

The news of more autopsy work follows Monday's arrest of McKnight's admitted shooter, Ronald Gasser, and reports that McKnight's family has asked a different coroner to perform an independent autopsy outside of Jefferson Parish.

It appears they're taking every precaution and being very meticulous. Which honestly, should be done regardless of the situation. JMO
